Because the living hall, dinning hall and kitchen are joint together to form a bigger space, a little air cond becomes quite useless for the living hall.

So I thought of coming up with a flexible partition, made up of PVC strips, hanging down from the ceiling, sort of those warehouse or something.

But it's ugly isn't it ?

How about acrylic partition ?

Is there any thing could be cheap and still elegant ? tongue.gif

Picture will be useful.

I think if u upgrade the aircond to 2.5hp would be a cheaper option and best of all, the kitchen and dining will also enjoy the air conditioning.

Most new house design now is just big hall and dining together sharing space. It is just to create an illusion of space. When I bought my house, first thing comes to mind is to separate this but with something not permanent so that we can use big hall when required. I was thinking of foldable partition hanging from ceiling with no floor railing. The partion can be pushed to the wall when not used.

Then came this question. Why need to separate the dining and the family hall? When you have no visitor, you can dine while watching your TV. When you are having party among friends, you want to use big hall with no partition. When your friend comes for a visit like during CNY, Raya or even Christmas, some can sit in hall and still enjoy conversation with people at dining table.

So, I'm glad I did not go ahead with partition. Even when you have children, they can just eat at the kitchen. It would be just once or twice a year wink.gif

Totally agree... now the home decor is more on open concept... Even the kitchen is place together, but provided no heavy cooking. Just some baking and boiling. laugh.gif

Donkey years back, a terrace house is with 24" wide, 80ft long.
Now is 16, 18 or max at 20ft. So if developer "partition" it first, it will look smaller.

Well, not agree with this, since most of the flats in Kl are 1 person holding 10-15 flats.

I hate to sound like promoting this but maybe this will work ?

Each piece is RM 5.9, 40cmx40cm so can affort to buy 10 or more pieces. Plus some intallation costs.

This is what I had done to separate the living all and the dining area. As my hall area is too large after partition it, I had 2 airconds still. 1 aircond a 2.5HP and 1 aircond 1HP.

After certain period of time, it will lost its track also.
For me, I'll just install a fan over there and turn it on. The draft created will prevent air cond to go there icon_rolleyes.gif
Always remember, living hall's air cond are just to cool down, not until bed room's temperature laugh.gif

Not bad, can customized the pattern some more. But if TS purpose is to separate the living and dining to conserve air-cond then this is not practical.

If the purpose is to trap the cool air between the hall, that will cost you more to partition, install another aircon and consumption. Doesn't look cost effective.

Not practical because there are holes in it and the cooler air still leak out ?

Maybe not 100% effective but perhaps able to conserve 30-40% compared to no partition right ?

Not very clear about your idea of installing a ceiling fan.

If the living hall, dinner hall and kitchen are all one after another in rectangular shape, where the ceiling fan should be installed ?

A curtain will be effective.

Any suggestion of a suitable curtain ? Maybe the track curtain is installed between the kitchen and dinning area. Sort of also using it to separate the kitchen fumes and smoke from entering the dinning and living area. But I haven't seen anybody did that to their kitchen. tongue.gif

You can look for "pvc divider" in online purchase website. Comes with rings to join them together.

Should be available in leong, alibaba, aliexpress or something.

Looks good but I supposed when you see the actually thing and knows it it made up of PVC, then you will say it's cheap stuff ! LOL.

For sure is the dining hall, kitchen you need to partition it to prevent smoke and oil.
