Nioh alpha demo launches April 26 Worldwide

Nearly forgotten about this game again.

Anyways, limited time demo will be available from April 26th to May 5th. So... yeah, this game is even more obscure than FFXV at this point.

Tried the demo just now. Your stamina is the worst enemy in this game but I like it tbh haha. If only they can fix, when you lock on enemy you have to face them all the time without holding guard button...

first... from Witcher3 i got into DS3, the control so diff i died so many times... now from DS3 get into Nioh.... the control is like Witcher3 .... again... died coz i keep on pressing R1... i was like.... damn it....

seriously..... some game X is confirm, O is cancel.... some the other way round..... cant they just make the game all the same? or at least let gamers customize the control??

They cant, think someone mentioned this was a regional thing that makes control scheme like that, asian vs westerner style I think. But would be great though to have the option to remap the buttons.

You all know that you can just use custom button assignment through your PS4 right? It applies system wide, so you don't have to deal with games forcing you to use a button config you don't want to.

Yeah they need to improve the lock on mode. Doesn't make sense with lock on but when you dodge/evade, the camera is all over the place again.

The game is brutal. Even more brutal than the souls games. No more stamina can GG and enemy hit so much harder than you. Those revenant even more brutal.

No it is available in Asian R3 too I am playing using R3 account since we are gonna get R3 discs in Malaysia

i think this demo is very promising, despite there's some lock on and sudden drop into sea and die thingy. first 10 minute of the game is just trial and error, dying and being frustrated, get chop 3 times by revenant and die. once get a hang of it, it's much easier.

getting gang mob is so OP, but i like the item drop rate, so much item drop and there's the rare item with color rating, nice. definitely getting it when it launch.

I think originally they wanted to do something like ninja gaiden onimushi style, but changed to DS style in the end.
Really copy kau-kau, with most of the DS signature mechanics in it, you die easily, as the foot soldiers can easily kill you. Facing a mob at one go is a sure way to die fast.
You died, and you'll have to start over from nearest checkpoint, instead of bonfire you pray at a shrine. Enemies respwan whenever you use the shrine. And you'll hav to go all the way back to where you died to pick up your precious exp.
Shortcuts like gates n ladders just like DS/BB
Also the stone to throw at enemies to lure them away frm group ala BB
But so far no weapons upgrades, but they hav weapon grades ala diablo style with diff colors.
Since its still alpha, still got a few bugs, especially the locking mechanism, died many times due to chopping air instead of locked on enemy.
Graphics wise is awesome

Think I'll grab it when it's released

Well new demo releases today, and it seems koei improve the lock on mechanic

same area though, managed to invite random player. Note to self, better summon someone only for hard battle, otherwise everything is kinda rush

Update original demo, with new introduction of weapons and some more

going to play the last stage.....

1. very fast pace comparing bloodborne
2. graphic is below both ds3 and bd... damn those trees' leaf not moving while grass move kena tiup angin XD macam static background.... bored
3. very easy die compare with bd... after level up few levels... you ok... just like bd... but still, damn i die so much easier... DS3 got shield.. at least can survive more ....
4. stamina also drop faster comparing ds3 ..... even you are not equipped with heavy armors. stamina will cost more if you heavily equipped ..... so light and less defend sometime is a good thing
5. weapon wise only has hammer, axe, sword and twin swords ..... diff is style of slashing... high, mid and low .... strong, mid and fast but weak attack ..... can switch style while attcking, just like bd switch weapon type .... but you hardly do that coz you only slash slash slah......... back off, wait ... slash slash slash again....
6. camera can be better..... sometime block by even the grass because on low ground.....
7. lag ..... i get some lag during gameplay .... the oni from far far will be very lag sometime... BETA ..
8. blocking only cause stamina reduced ... no health .... even blocking boss's move ..... good or bad? i ok with it
9. the combo ..... is a plus thing ..... you can customize your button combo, and learn diff combo moves or connection moves ....

i played alpha and did not like it ... too difficult ... because i hate the 0 stamina you will strangle and rest ... beta at least you wont strangle... only when 0 stamina and you being hit ....


just my opinion only...... i no pro game reviewer .... just BETA ... hopefully real thing is better

The trial play is out... seriously cant compare with the smoothness action of bloodborne and ds3...

The slashing is dull and it doesnt hit up or down bit straight when u are in a different terrain despite u locked on enemies.... nber of times i miss coz enemies is down few steps on a stairs.... u need to switch style to hit down...

This round i dead so much lesser compare with my last demo play hahahhaa

Trial just ended. Was playing all night with random on multiple twilight play throughs. Bloody beat the samurai in time too. Game Kick me out just when I going into twilight ogress.

Hmmm now deciding if I should buy the full game with season pass.

Think this one is a lot more frustrating compared to Dark Souls for me, imma buy it just not at launch, considering there is so many to buy next month. Horizon Zero Dawn, Nier Automata, Yakuza 0 and Story of Seasons

Imo Horizon is graphically awesome but gameplay itself kind of bored..... but still waiting but dontt think wil get both at launch....

To those that think Nioh is a shallow Dark Souls copy cat, think again after watching this:






This was done on beta/last chance trial. Half the gameplay elements are still locked, so imagine the possibilities in the full game.
Nioh is shaping up to be something special where the many could unfortunately just shrug off because of the surface resemblance it has to Dark Souls. But look closer and it's almost nothing like it.

Parry only works best against small-mid size monster..its optional tho..afaik the parry system not rewarding enough during the beta..the time gap to counter attack after parry too short..as for boss u just gonna cause ur own death better dont parry boss..this the findings i got from the beta b4..

Depends on which boss you parry, Tachibana regular attacks can be parry + riposte. But dont la try to parry big ass bosses

The problem is back in Alpha when i tried it, it's pretty frustrating because you need to repeatedly try the same thing over and over again, to get the best equipment and then you can advance further. Or have they changed that.

And... they're wrong, just like almost every "big-time" reviewer.

Unfortunately, most people will play this game with a Bloodborne/Dark Souls mentality. By playing Nioh like that, the game is worse than any Soulsborne game. Really, aside from some items, several minor mechanics (dodging for example), Nioh is almost NOTHING like Bloodborne.

The combat mechanics are much deeper, it's also several times faster paced (unless again, you play with a Bloodborne/Dark Souls mentality), and also much more flexible.

I blame the marketing by Sony too, saying to "scratch the Souls itch". Making Nioh sound like a Dark Souls clone with a Japanese feudal setting.

My suggestion is don't go in and play this game like Bloodborne. Otherwise like many have experienced, it's just boring and frustrating. USE the combos, quick switch weapons, cancel animations, quick parry and riposte. Ninja Gaiden vets, you all know what I'm talking about. Play it with the mentality of a slower NG game, not the other way around.

anyone notice that some of the demon in final trial mode, some got 1 horn with bandage head , or some with 2 horns , if you use high reach weapon , you can destroy those horns and they instantly lose all their stamina.

Same goes to the female ogre boss.

9th February is actually the release date for Japan & Asian region, so no it's not exactly delayed. US release date is on 7th & Europe on 8th.

Thing is for some of us, on the 9th is public holiday (Thaipusam) so hopefully we can pick it up on the 8th from Impulse.

Guys, just wanna ask, is this game a very stressful one? I really enjoy the Onimusha series, but I find Bloodborne to be a chore and more of a stressful experience than an enjoyable one. (die, rinse, repeat)

I understand that this game is pretty difficult, but will it be a game where you just keep dying in order to learn? Or will it be a game where you can upgrade your weapons, HP and to make fights easier (like Onimusha)?

There's never been a Team Ninja game where you won't die repeatedly until you learn how the mechanics work.

Weapon upgrades, armor upgrades, stats buff... they're all there to help you make fights more manageable (easier or not is subjective). But it will not give you the ability to snow ball everything, you can only do that with your own skill.

You will die even more than you did in Bloodborne. I'm sure of it. I mentioned it in the previous page, you go into this game with a Bloodborne mentality and it'll kick your ass really, really hard.

If you think that is stressful, then this game isn't for you.

Thanks for your inputs Ben. I couldn't even get past the first boss in Bloodborne, and it's very frustrating. Sold the game off in the end.

I come home from work tired at the end of the day and the last thing I wanna do is to have another stressful experience in front of my TV lol. Would rather prefer easier hack and slash games like onimusha or Diablo. Skipping this one!
