Sam Pitcavage went out west to find his fortune. What he found was choking dust, rattlesnakes, constant hunger, and barely enough gold to survive.
Sam kept panning for gold to make a fortune. He cussed in public, often made trouble in the saloons and shied away from fights of all stripes.
Eventually he would return to California. There he scraped up enough money to buy a farm and found joy in harvesting the bounty he brought forth.

He turned a profit and soon brought his wife and young son to join him out in California.
Richard Hartigan

Richard Hartigan was never caught. Some said it was because of a pact he'd sworn with Marshal 江. Others said that the county Marshal was secretly a member of the Hartigan gang.
But Hartigan's days of rampaging soon ended and the man vanished. No one heard much about him, though from time to time a mysterious figure would accompany Marshal 江 on particularly difficult errands of justice. The figure refused to answer to any name and struck down many a law-breaker with knife or pistol; despite continuously complaining about having to do so.
But wherever he was, his much loved daughter would be nearby. They argued, sometimes fought and stood apart, but always, always loved one another as only family could.
Martin Baldwin, the telegraph operator and dime novel writer.

Martin Baldwin continued to live and write in Elko for many years. His little books on the big legend of Marshal 江 all but flew from the shelves owing to that association. His dime novel, 'The Electric Marshal' would find its way into many hearts.
Encouraged, Martin began a life of literary claim and fame, traveling across the United States speaking at public engagements and private parties. Editors vied for his tales and he would eventually purchase an estate with the proceeds from his endeavors.
And every morning he would wake up early and take up his pen to set something new to paper.

Kevin the blacksmith.

Kevin Coolidge crafted Marshal 江's meteor hammer and had begun to gain a favorable name in a sparse land where most farmers could barely shoe a pony let alone pour iron.
As Preston Springs began to wither, Kevin decided to pack up and move over to Elko. There the railroad let him worry less about having iron on hand and gave steady pay when rails or spokes needed work.
He worked and worked as a good blacksmith should.
And when the fires guttered, and the day was done, he would step out and draw in a drought of fresh air. The stars twinkled bright above and he imagined them as tiny forges in the night sky where unknown smiths hammered out celestial shoes for Pegasi that swung the stars around in the sky.
With that pleasant thought in mind, he would turn in for a pleasant night of slumber so that he might be ready for another long day of work.
