As the world's biggest and richest club, Manchester United reach a global fanbase.

Part of the attraction for fans around the world has been the football luminaries, such as George Best and Sir Bobby Charlton, who have graced the Old Trafford turf in a Manchester United shirt over the years.

Recently, Manchester United have continued to attract or develop some of the game's biggest names, with England stalwarts such as Paul Scholes and David Beckham having been regular fixtures in the Reds line-up.

The Manchester United team, past and present, reads like a who's who of world football.

It is only fitting that a great team should grace a great stadium. And with Old Trafford's recent development and the closure of Wembley, the ground is easily the largest in English football, holding in excess of 60,000 fans.

Despite this capacity, the demand to see United in action is so great that tickets are hard to come by.

But it isn't only Manchester United fans who flock to Old Trafford. The standard of the ground is such that it regularly hosts high-profile games, most notably, the Champions League Final and Great Britain rugby league games.

Rock fans have also made use of the Reds's facilities, watching a number of high-profile acts at the ground.

But it's football that will forever be synonymous with the Reds famous ground - and with good reason.

The last decade has seen Manchester United under the shrewd leadership of Sir Alex Ferguson maintain a virtual stranglehold on the Premiership crown.

Manchester United has won the league no fewer than 18 times in their history. They are also Cup Kings too, winning the FA cup 11 times, the league cup 4 times, as well as winning the European Super Cup, European Cup Winner's Cup, and 3 times being crowned European Cup champions.

Manchester United has long become a name associated with success both on and off the pitch.

As club profits continue to grow, Manchester United have become one of the richest sports clubs on the planet.

With supporters club branches on every continent, it's hard to go any where in the world and not see somebody wearing the famous red shirt of Manchester United.

QUOTE(zenix @ Nov 24 2009, 09:18 PM)
Hope Alien will sticky this info later.
Though written in 2006 so no Roy Keane yet.

Ex-United players that have moved on to become managers.

Written by Simon Stone (MARCH 22, 2006)

STEVE BRUCE (1987-1996): Took his first steps in management with Sheffield United in 1998, then swiftly moved on to Huddersfield, Wigan and Crystal Palace. Left Selhurst Park in acrimonious fashion after Birmingham targeted him as the replacement for Trevor Francis in 1991. Took Blues into the Premier League but after a heavy FA Cup defeat is struggling to keep his job.

MARTIN POWELL (1971-1983): Stylish and well-respected Scotland centre-half whose authoritative nature appeared to make him a natural for the management game. Lasted four months at Burnley.

SIR BOBBY CHARLTON (1956-1973): Arguably the finest English player of all time proved to be an unmitigated disaster as a manager. Claimed he was not given the resources to make a decent job of it at Preston but was never lured back into management following his departure after a single season.

STEVE COPPELL (1975-1983): After a knee injury cut his playing career short at just 28, Coppell turned his attention to management. Steered Crystal Palace into the FA Cup final and then third place in the old First Division - the Eagles' highest ever - the following season. It was the first of four stints in charge at Selhurst Park in a career which has seen him move to Manchester City (for only six games), Brentford and Brighton. Now at Reading and about to steer the Royals into the top flight for the first time.

PADDY CRERAND (1962-1971): A key figure in United's 1968 European Cup triumph, Crerand lasted five months at Northampton before getting the bullet and, like Charlton, never managed again.

MARK HUGHES (1983-86, 1988-95): Hughes was never tipped as a manager by Ferguson but has taken to the game with ease. Took Wales into the Euro 2004 play-offs. Took over at Blackburn shortly afterwards, steering Rovers away from danger in his first season. Currently in contention for a Champions League spot.

BRIAN KIDD (1967-1974): Another European Cup winner who proved to be a poor manager. Got itchy feet in 1998 after spending seven years as Sir Alex Ferguson's highly-rated assistant. Took command at Blackburn but dismissed six months later.

BRYAN ROBSON (1981-94): United's inspirational leader under Ron Atkinson and Ferguson. There are two schools of thought on his stint at Middlesbrough - he either spent lots and achieved little (relegation and two losing finals) or he laid the platform for the Teessiders to become an established Premiership outfit. Kept West Brom up in extraordinary fashion last year but back in trouble again this season.

GORDON STRACHAN (1984-89): Scotland international who won the FA Cup with United and the title of the pre-Premiership era with Leeds. Sacked after five years at when the Sky Blues lost top-flight status, then enjoyed success at Southampton - reaching the 2003 Cup final - before resigning to spend more time with his family. Now at Celtic, has recovered from a humiliating Champions League exit to Artmedia Bratislava, and, after winning his first trophy on Sunday in the CIS Insurance Cup, is set to clinch the Scottish Premier League.

NOBBY STILES (1960-71): Along with Charlton, one of only two Englishmen to have won the World Cup and European Cup, he replaced his former England and United team-mate at Preston, with limited success. After a brief stint in Vancouver, returned to England to take over as manager of West Brom. Sacked after five months, having gained just three wins.

Memphis, I don't know why he was there at the first place. Young is still far more better in that position than him

I said it previously. Right now we dun need Depay to start. Young was performing so good and that philosophical manager just drop him like that, just to accomodate depay. and rooney? he and lvg can fak themselves...

Rooney HAD 3 FREAKING CHANCES to shoot early to get a shot on target,BUT HE FREAKING DECIDED TO GO FOR MORE AND RAN WITH THE BALL.

His awful pass lead to Swansea's equaliser.I'm so gonna go all guns blazing on FIFA 16.

That's it,be back next season tomorrow.

Get a new manager..e.g Klopp

Get rid of spanish/argentina players
Spanish MF are good..but too slow/weak for EPL

LVG just sit on the bench regardless anything happens
SAF would be on the pitch with his red face shouting at players/refs should the team/ref not performing

Buy new hungry striker/goalkeeper

Playing players out of position e.g Mata at flanks will not do much

The gameplay must be faster and forwards/wingers must shoot when got opportunity, not try to walk the ball into the net

Wingers must be daring to take on opponent defenders

maybe because his role as striker now that he was directed not to track back so much.. or just plain lazy

i dont believe he dont have the energy to do so.. even old RVP track back a lot last season, both when leading or losing

If you look at our attacking dept, you should already know it is very wrong. Depay = still not strong enough to play in premier league, this game like day dreaming, he is new in England I wont criticise him much. Mata = not a natural winger, left footer play in RW and like to cut inside, u know it is super wrong we let Pedro go to Chelsea. Rooney = u know i know, getting the highest paycheck we should have expected him to be the game changer, but instead he is the game changer for the opponent tongue.gif. Herrera = the only one I have hope on, but LVG doesnt trust him.
And I wonder, did Rooney plan to dribble the ball into the net just now? lol

Anyone but LVG. His arrogance has brought nothing! He saved his job by merely progression to the champions league. Lucky. But this season if things don't change, I don't think we will be in the champions league next season. I would have picked the team bar Rooney but the substitutions were atrocious. And he still claims he does not need a striker. Choosing the team is the managers responsibility. So far LVG has failed repeatedly. He does not have the balls to drop ROONEY. Something which a a good manager would have done a long time ago.

LVG needs to be brave to drop bad performers. Rooney and Depay today clearly played badly, instead he sub out Herrera and the goal scorer Mata.

Either they are flops or traitors

Silva is faster than Mata, so he can be at the flanks

if he scored regularly, Man Utd would be in much better position last season 7 & 4

both of them will be missing when they face physical teams

that is why rarely both played in central MF together, otherwise opponents would slaughter the mf

I still mad at the way they handled DDG case. Ego don't want to let go for less, then don't want to sign other good gk. We're not some pariah club la LVG, we have the money power. If want to show who's the boss to both DDG and RM, go ahead but just sign other gk. Why wanna stuck with mediocrity player?

LVG not good enough for Man Utd.
Next Season Pep Guardiola will be available, hopefully he signs for us rather than Man City.

Will LVG drop his pant to show he got balls to drop Rooney?....

really guys? we call moyes monyet?
really? is this our characters? we lose but still blame moyes?
ohhh come on, grow up pls... yes, he inherited champ squad but only SAF can make it different.. i dont think JM or pep or klopp or your name it other word class manager that can bring SAF players to champ.. just talk about our squad and manager rite now..
respect ppl that always try to manage something big although he fail but he tried ..
i think i gonna kick LVG ass, he said he not panic, but everytime we concede 1 goal in the 2nd half, tadaaa 2 subs coming out.. switch to his 2nd tactic
crossing and pray.. rite now i think only CA tactic is the best attacking tactic

Very bad display, again possession football without clear attacking intent.

Rooney back to his no confident self

Passing all night, even the Swansea players know how to intercept the passing or force them to pass back into their half. LOL.

Rooney, soon after that hat trick against that apa nama club, big news on him that he got his form back, bla bla bla. Come on, in BPL he won't get such space and time to shoot.

Lol typical Arsenal fan.
Won 3 "trophies" in pre-season already a treble ka?

You would've said otherwise if he's playing for Arsenal lmao.

What I dun understand is how come rooney stayed on the pitch for 90mins. Absolute nonsense. If the great philosopher made a correct sub and we still lost, then im ok with it. But wtf he subbed mata and Herrera who played much much better than Rooney. Imagine if you're one of the player and everytime you pass to rooney, he lost the ball. It brings down the whole Team. Sack Van Gaal.

Arrogant. Almost 200M spent and no improvement at all. Still playing mediocre football since taking over from Moyes.

Possession don't mean nuts if there is no conversion.

Replacing the league's best goalkeeper with a 'freebie' junk of Romero when there are other better options. How on earth did he manage to let DDG contract run until the final year, really baffles me.

Selling all the strikers that we have and keeping the useless Rooney as the main forward and backed up by James Wilson.

Insisting that Fellaini is a striker.

#LVGLogic

This club will further decline under his redundant management. Sick and tired of his stubbornness.

If the doesn't sign another striker before the window shuts, I'm sorry to say this but this season is over again. Rooney is not the striker that we need, rely on. He's better off in the bench giving instructions instead.

If you ask me, Monk has every right to be cocky / arrogant.

I mean, who wouldn't? If you are managing a 'not-so big club' and beating a top side twice in a season, home and away, should be feeling over the moon too.

It's just another banter, I wouldn't take it too personally.

The problem is, lVG is too ego to drop Rooney. When your striker cant score/assist/pass, it gives the opponent motivation to push forward. That's what Swansea did.

Susah betul dengan Rooney ni.
He has talent, but he's lacking the playing level that's required for a striker.

We need a striker. Why bother playing Rooney up alone when he can be used elsewhere, right behind the striker or in midfield where he'd be maximizing his potential? He playing up alone is doing no good for himself or the team. His 3 goals in Europe even Heskey could have scored.

Play him in midfield, he's creative and he has the ability to run and complete passes. LVG bongok, stubborn and arrogant.

We need a striker desperately, someone big and strong.
We need ZLATAN!

3/3 wins for Swansea, can't say it's a shock.

Already expected us to run into trouble in this game, simply because we don't have an in form striker and Swansea are not muppets who can be pushed around easily.

Boring internationals now, have to wait 2 weeks before the team has a chance to do better.

Possession is not necessarily equal to dominance.

LVG seems to be delusional, thinking that we dominate the game because the possession is in our favor..

Agree with you that possession alone is not going anywhere if we do not use that possession to create chances (which to be fair, we did manage this to a degree) and finish them off (this is a big issue so far this season).

2 ways forward to better results, either create more chances OR start finishing them off more ruthlessly.

Main issue for me is the latter, you can create chances but if Rooney is this far off form then we are going to struggle to score, especially with nobody challenging him.

Chicharito offers great movement, but doesn't look like a ruthless finisher anymore (destroyed confidence?).

Wilson isn't getting any time, so obviously LVG doesn't think he is ready.

So much rage in this thread laugh.gif

We got a tough couple of months ahead. I dah cakap dah, LVG still insist in playing the same starting XI (barring the midfield) to get match fitness and now it has backfired. Never rotate his squad and now some of our "fringe" players either have no match fitness or bench for how many years whistling.gif....

Sort of anticipated we will come undone against Swansea, because of our lacklustre displays so far in the league..

Just wait when the UCL comes and the matches come think and fast, and we see the same line up again week in week out LVG does not start to utilise his full squad.. I don't know what to say anymore doh.gif...

Not sure how much I agree with your statement.

He has been rotating Carrick and Basti, Herrera has also started seeing game time.

Darmian / Valencia sub also people rage, even though it's clear Darmian was exhausted when he came off in at least one of those games tongue.gif

Fellaini/Young/Chicharito/Januzaj also got some minutes.

We are only 6 games into the season (including 2 CL qualifiers).

Rotate too much also will kena label tinkerman, team no time to settle and build understanding etc etc.

The main issue is actually that Rooney has been rubbish in 5 out of 6 games but is still in no risk of being substituted. Flip side is there is no "killer striker" waiting on the bench either.

Need Rooney to drop his pants and show LVG his balls 1st.

As it stands, I suspect Rooney will continue to see plenty of game time and will only be axed at season end if he continues to struggle throughout the season ala RVP/Falcao last season.

Get relegated in EPL just to win UCL,come on! laugh.gif

QUOTE(sunblaze @ Aug 31 2015, 01:52 PM)

*
if Rooney poor form continues, might as well gamble on an inexperienced CF - Wilson or even playing a slow but tall centre forward - Fellaini

Memphis..he's good, but he needs to adapt to the EPL,he needs to add that unpredictability to his game.

The commentator last night already stated the obvious, most of you would've seen the obvious. Utd's goal came from the overlapping run of Shaw. Why he doesn't do that more often was due to LVG's tactic. Memphis doesn't run or take on players either. Rooney..well, we're stuck with him. Nothing much to say. First 2 clear chance he had were forgivable. The one where he was outmuscled by the defender & had the audacity to argue for a penalty was unforgivable.

*
no ddg nvm. vv and lindegard ready to step up, he just closed the door on them.

betwn rvp wr and falcao. not keeping falcao is reasonable. but rvp who shows more fight at the end of the season than rooney got kicked out by him. nex season if he's still here somehow, might play fellaini as defender. sweat.gif

19 years old. yea he's a talented youngster, but i dont think LVG shud be thinking of long term prospects when even our short term success pun susah mau predict.

wishful thinking: luni n lonaldo oso were bought at exorbitant price tags n were met with skepticism

Just when I thought the club are showing some good judgement and sense with our transfer deal earlier in the season, and here we go again throwing silly figure to sign a 19 year old player while other teams are signing world class player with this kind of fees. I really think is time for the club to seriously look to hiire a football director to assist lvg and woodward on our club transfer policy as I am beginning to think they are inept in transfer dealing esp against some cutthroat clubs and agents like mendes

For me, I will let LvG do his thing and see whether this kind of transfer will work or not. Why? Because last season he went for "world class" additions to the squad and we all know how that turned out. So, this time, at least, in this last hours of the window, he is going for the youthful route.

Still question remains, will he better than Origi or not? brows.gif

they dont want short term solution, they want long term

whether martial is really big enough to fill the shoe still unsure though

nth comes cheap when MU comes in to buy a player

if martial deal is firmed, then those really young players we have so far are martial (20), wilson (20), memphis (21), januzaj-loan (20), shaw (20).... dunno i miss out any or not...

LvG is always full of crap. He single-handedly destroyed the fundamental of FC Barcelona and Netherlands in the early 2000. He was also the reason why Juan Roman Riquelme never made it at Barca. Deservedly sacked at Bayern too.

Regarding Javier Hernandez, it looks like LvG has his mind made up without really giving him a shot, same as Welbeck. Are they world class? Certainly not. But these two know how to find the back of the net, especially Hernandez.

pls lvg is way better than moyes.

but definitely not as good as say, SAF, mou n pellegrini

heck even pep's possession play is better than lvg's

but that being said, lvg had already repeated many times that he will end his tenure at man utd in 2017 confirm.

dunno why but i can foresee pep replacing him lol

Lindegaard is having medical
Chicha expected to leave for Bayer 04
De Gea is leaving as well

and we take chances on Martial to be rooney future replacement/backup, which is expensive for diamond in the rough

this could turn out a brilliant move at the end of season or a major downfall of van gaal.

sigh. better keep valdes but the bridge already burnt for small misunderstanding

romero is not and should not be rely upon as No 1 spot. A butterfinger gk has been exposed by Swansea

so, the original squad left by Sir Alex is :

Rooney
Carrick
Smalling
Jones
Young
Valencia
Januzaj (but never make league appearance during Sir Alex last season)
Lingard (but never make league appearance during Sir Alex last season)

Romero is a poor man's goalkeeper.

He is not worthy of the #1 spot in the team. Come on LVG, his ball distribution is crap, can't kick nor throw FFS. Everytime a striker beats the defense, I worry that it will be a certain goal.

From world class goalkeeper in DDG to freebie rubbish of Romero.

TOP STORY: United turn to Adebayor and Martial, 'Chicharito' to Leverkusen
Monaco's Anthony Martial has been granted permission to travel to England to sign for Manchester United, according to a statement from the France Football Federation.

Louis van Gaal had insisted he will not panic-buy despite his side having scored just three goals in four Premier League games, but a £36 million deal now looks in the offing -- and what's even more strange is that he seems to be adding to his 'panic' with news that former Arsenal and Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor is next on his list, according to Daily Mail.

Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez is closing on a £12m move to Bayer Leverkusen, while a number of media outlets are also reporting that Adnan Januzaj will leave for Dortmund on loan.

Brace yourself guys. Adebayour inkambing. Haha. Rage rage everywhere!

Top win EPL, need at least 4 top strikers when playing 442. For 433 need at least 3 with one that can play on the left or right side.. Right now, we're dry. Chica leaving, janu loan away, rvp rip, fellaini is not a striker, he's just a tall guy in the box. If Can get someone whom can cross like Beckham or ping like Scholes, then fellaini would be the top scorer of the league.

Now comes welbeck 2.0 who's goalscoring record is not great at all.

We need more firepower.... We need 1 more goalkeeper... We need 1 more CB to replace blind/Evans..

WTF! shocking.gif If JW goes to Spurs or WBA and turns out to be a top striker.
That's it.Plastic mode on,support Crystal Palace. grumble.gif

I still wonder who the fork wanted to get Martial in the first place, could've just signed Lacazette for 30-35M and use the rest maybe on a right winger like Kevin Volland lol.

Let's hope he'll prove us wrong, else we're gonna be laughed by those damn trolls the whole season.

Adui...getting an expensive unknown 19 year old player to lead the frontline.

Might as well stick to Janujaz or Wilson like that, and use that money to tempt De Gea to stay.

Rather see him between the sticks than Romero.

A confuse De Gea would still be better than a focus Romero.

Man Utd: David De Gea's move to Real Madrid off as paperwork late

David De Gea's proposed £29m move from Manchester United to Real Madrid has collapsed because the necessary paperwork was not submitted in time.

No official announcement has yet been made by either club.
As part of the deal to sell De Gea to Real, United were planning to bring Keylor Navas in the opposite direction.

There is no precedent for Spanish clubs being given additional time to conclude transfers as there is in England.

Blame for the failure to complete the deal is already being apportioned.
Reports in Spain say United were responsible and that their paperwork arrived at Spanish Football Federation headquarters one minute later than the 23:00 BST deadline.

United say they have a receipt that proves they submitted the relevant documents on time.

It remains to be seen whether Real will attempt to push the transfer through by appealing to world governing body Fifa, who are responsible for sanctioning international transfers.

Should they be successful, Navas would join United as planned.
The unexpected development came at the end of a busy day of transfer activity at United.

Striker Javier Hernandez joined Bayer Leverkusen for £7.3m. Adnan Januzaj is also moving to Germany, agreeing a season-long loan with Borussia Dortmund. In addition, Anders Lindegaard has joined West Brom on a two-year deal.

The movement was not one way.
Monaco forward Anthony Martial was allowed to report late for duty with the French national side to travel to Manchester for a medical that is set to see him become the world's most expensive teenager after United agreed to pay £36m for the 19-year-old.

De Gea will also be on international duty this week as Spain have two Euro 2016 qualifying matches, at home to Slovakia on 5 September and in Macedonia on 8 September.

United manager Louis van Gaal said he would not consider De Gea for selection at his club until the transfer window was closed.

And this Martial kid is the striker LVG mentioned? LOL! Not Muller, not Neymar, not Kane, not whoever top striker you can named or even converted striker Fellaini, it's Martial! Surprise enough LVG! Really surprise

Lvg problem or Kayu just wanna buy something before shopping window closes?

We have been targeting players that clubs don't wanna sell the whole window. There were top players available, but we wanted the top 10 that no clubs would ever let go. The mullers, the bales, the untouchables. Who's fault isit? LVGs reputation? Kayu being Kayu? United not big enough?

Who cares? What's £25 million to Utd anyway when they can splurge £35 million on a 19 year old. And oh..latest news. RM might be banned from buying players in 2016. If that is so, DDG can only leave in 2017, meaning he has to sign a new contract, start concentrating on his game (to make it in the Spanish Euro 2016 squad) or rot in the reserves. A WIN for woody tongue.gif

If we need a young, fast striker as backup. James Wilson already exist lah, mangkuk LVG waste so much money on Martial. Monaco last year scammed us for Falcao, now this year Martial. vmad.gif

And Januzaj to Dortmund, nice, now who gonna play play on the wing? doh.gif

Ahh..what does it matter anyway? City is going to runaway with the title just like Chelsea last season. Sure, City would stumble a bit soon but the head start they are having will be a great advantage while the other teams are still searching for the formula. For me, as long as Utd stays in the top 4, have a good run in the cups & UCL AND beating Liverpool, that's enough.

Anyway, if Utd beats Pool in the game, everything will be forgotten until of course when they lose again. tongue.gif

Don't get too impressed with this clip please.
Any good world class players will become no one with LVG's filosofi.

True that,
and no, not impress on his skill either.
Scoring against some nameless club is not gonna be the same as playing in EPL.

Our kapitan hatrick against some no-name on wed, and on sunday he misses like what, 3 opportunities? Worst yet lost the ball which causes the equaliser

started to hate LVG...his lousy strategy seems to be the same game after game, and his philosophy seems to bring no differences to the club. and most irritating of all, he is getting rid of players who are fan favorite as he didnt know how to use them at all.

MU supporters having insomnia problem will surely have this cure by now.

with madrid is likely face transfer ban in 2016, it gave opportunity for big dave to sign new contract

the squad is too thin to compete for both league and champion's league. jadedness and tiredness will bound to catch up during mid season

They can sign. They just cant register to their squad. So Arda Turan and Vidal (fullback) is just going to be sitting in the gym room for 6 months.

Angel Di Maria has claimed he had rows with Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal and suggested that he struggled to comprehend the Dutch tactician's philosophy during his time at Old Trafford.

Most of the footballers has big head. They think they are a big star, so the manager has to listen to them.

This is what happened to the most of the stars when they didnt listen to the manager. Downfalls

The club pay you to play for them and all you have to do is, play.

Now claimed here and there, have rows bla bla bla. Pfft!

^agreed. but some time manager also has to listen to their players when the manager's philosophy is not working anymore. the player themselves might not comfortable with the game plan and change to the game plan that the player comfortable most might changing the end result.

in this case im pretty sure lvg is stubborn and stupiak. lol

The problem with LVG is, he's buying fast and direct players like depay , maria , but they want them to play it safe and follow his philosophy of not running with the ball and backpass if possible. No risk taken. In certain match this sounds reasonable, but doing it against all teams..

really LOL.

LVG had a selection worked out and was sticking to a relatively stable lineup by then (barring injuries).

Now we've bought and sold players, so he is working on this again.

Takes time when the filosofi is so complex.

To me, we are still in building process. Most of LVG's signing is young player except Tiger & ADM. That explain a lot. We need time, I don't expect anything but CL place for this year would be good enough during this building process. icon_rolleyes.gif

padan muka, their tactic to get players which a club is reluctant to sell is always the same. Use Marca to send out messages all season but don't make an official bid until late in the window... this time with less than 24hours left! It finally backfired on them HAHAHAHA!!!

If we can afford to throw so much money to gamble on the potential of a 19yo kid... loss of the transfer fee is no big deal. DDG can stay for another year and deliver or munch tacos on the bench tongue.gif

The real losers here is us my friend.

Now, we don't get Navas who is way better than floppero and we now lost whatever slight negotiating power we have over Real now.

If we go for Navas next season, they gonna do another ADM on us.
*
Either it will go through or it won't. Either is fine. For 2 clubs with that kinda financial muscle, it's about respect and status. Real getting public flak and sweating over the deal failing due to a technicality is worth the laughs.

Not like we are desperate for the transfer fee, considering we can happily slam down 36mil (more with add-ons!!!) for a 19yo who has 0 caps for France and has yet to win anything at club level.

Whether it's for free next year or 25mil today... for someone with DDGs profile and talent, Real get a bargain either way and we are left with much less money in the pocket than we would get if DDG had signed a new contract.

Real had all summer to do a deal and since Ramos and Bale made it clear they won't leave Real, we've read more than once that Real just have to beat the fee paid for Buffon to do a deal. They could have made offers anytime in the last few days (or weeks), but they chose to slow roll it and act like they were happy to wait until next summer while using Marca to trumpet the tragedy of DDG the slave in Manchester.

Then with < 24hours before the window closes finally make their move. All over a price difference that is literally peanuts for them. A year after charging us top dollar for di Maria. Padan muka la hahahahaha!!

Navas is unproven in the EPL, so he might turn out to be better or the same. Look at how DDG struggled until he bulked up and adjusted. Either we get 1 more season of DDG playing if he is ready to deliver, or sitting on the bench, or sitting in the stands, or the deal goes thru. Any option is not an issue.

If your concern about the deal is due to Romero, then I would say that's a separate issue since Navas is an unknown. Might as well wonder why we didn't make any attempt to sign another GK (e.g. Lloris) even after LVG decided that Lindegaard and Valdes have no future at the club and DDG made it clear he would not sign a new contract months ago.

I think I totally disagree with you on that rating. Neuer would be a top replacement. Courtois might be a top replacement (arguable).

Anyone else would be a step down or a sideways move at best today (blablabla exception being potential @ Oblak). Even Lloris would *probably* be a step down since some people say he's great and others say he is nothing special.

Navas? He has a good rep in La Liga and has looked solid. But the EPL is a different kettle of fish, and the pressure at United has broken many. He might be good, he might be rubbish. Look at what happened to Barthez (who won plenty of silver for club and country before even coming to United). Look at what happened to Howard (couldn't cop the pressure, but went to Everton and did so much better until he dipped last season).

Not surprised people are reacting this way.

1) DDG got the same stick in his first 1-2 years here. Then we had Rio and Vidic (i.e. much more confidence in our defence) in front of him. Now we got a defence with question marks at CB, so the concern is even higher.
2) Almost anyone would be a step down from DDG after his amazing form last season.
3) Romero couldn't nail down the #1 jersey when at Sampdoria or Monaco. Suddenly he is playing every week for United???

I agree that Romero needs time and might come good or he might not. Pretty sure though that everyone would feel more reassured if we had another higher profile GK or CB to help nerves tongue.gif

Neuer also never played bpl. So no point to argue in your context. There is a reason why romero is a freee agent. And my post above is not about a player. Was saying u give lvg toty also he can flop them all. We r just lucky to get 4th last season.

Only Kayu and LVG know what's behind that one.

Wanna sign potential is good, but that price is jaw dropping. Only time will tell whether it's a good choice or an epic fail.

Bigger worry is after cutting off Falcao, RVP, Hernandez and putting Januzaj (and possibly Wilson) on loan......36mil and add-ons could have bought more experienced competition for El Kapitan. Instead it's Rooney, Fellaini, and a 19yo as options to lead the line. A bit stunning.

Hope LVG knows what he is doing.

Wayne Rooney had to ask Morgan Schneiderlin who Manchester United-bound forward Anthony Martial is, the midfielder has revealed.

United captain Rooney approached his French teammate after the defeat to Swansea, when reports were first emerging that manager Louis van Gaal was trying to buy Monaco forward Martial, in a bid to discover about the 19-year-old.

Schneiderlin, who is in the France squad with Martial, replied that the teenager has similarities with Thierry Henry.

Bottom-line is nobody is overjoyed that Romero is the only experienced GK currently between the sticks and sitting on the bench. And nobody thinks we can get an equal or better GK than DDG.

I disagree about your LVG breaking all players comment though. The only player you can say he truly broke so far is di Maria, and that rat pandan made it clear almost as soon as he joined us that he preferred PSG when leaving Real. He chose to run there.

Evans also kena flame big-time since he lost his calm last season. Even before that some people already said he is not good enough.
Januzaj kena flame almost nonstop by some people here, since he got the 11 shirt lagi flamebait.
Chicharito might be sentimental favourite (especially 1-2 years ago), but the only thing people really like about him this season is his name is not Wayne Rooney. We would be shitting brix if he was our #1 striker.

Well he might need some time to weep salty tears and tell his gf "1 more season, mi amor. Firefox crashed for El Presidente Perez" but eventually he will realise if he rots on the bench/in the stands then he loses out bargaining power for his contract and potential for future success (especially with Euros coming). Only way is for him to knuckle down and do his best.

Respect? Yes i agree. Status? No. We are one of the richest clubs in the world but when it comes to attracting players, we are below Spain's top two. Even if DDG was not spanish, i won't blame him for choosing Madrid over Manchester. You only need to visit the city of Manchester to know why. Geographically, we already are at a disadvantage.

Martial? he might be the next messi for all i care but this season he is no messi definitely.

I don't really care about those spanish mob sitting in the VIP seats in madrid but one thing is for sure, there are bunch of smug bastards. Is just the perks of being one of the best. You get to be a dick and still people would wanna play for you.

Navas is unproven, i agree but seriously, he can't be worst than Romero. Forget about poor 1 on 1 stopping skills, the fact that he can't even kick a ball properly is already not installing much confidence to the players infront of him or the fans like us. how do you feel every time a dangerous attack comes our way?

From the way I see it, either:

1. LVG patches up with VV and we at least have someone decent between the sticks. OR
2. DDG be a pro and plays out his final year in tip top condition.

Much has been said about DDG state of mind, but at this point, I rather have DDG than Romero.

p/s: how on earth is romero argentina's No1? Do they not have any better keepers? lol.
*
I don't think anyone disagrees about club status with players or geography (it was a topic here in the past month and the exact same points were mentioned), the point is to make it clear we won't roll/bend over if Real or any club come knocking for our guys. Bayern did the exact same thing when clubs were fishing around for Ribery a few years ago. Heck, they did it to us when we wanted Hargreaves around 10 years ago too.

Your point about the goalies basically sums it up. Whether DDG stays his last season or the deal happens, we got an alternative to Romero and DDG is gone next year. Nothing to sweat.

I doubt VV will come back into the team, he would have to really come down and make a public apology... and I doubt he will.

And you got me for the Argie GK jersey.. I'm stumped too.

No David De Gea transfer appeal from Real Madrid

Real Madrid have decided not to appeal to La Liga following the collapse of David de Gea's move from Manchester United.

The goalkeeper looks set to remain at Old Trafford until at least January and Keylor Navas will stay at the Bernabeu.

It initially seemed the deal had simply stalled after documents were received 28 minutes after the Spanish transfer deadline at midnight on Monday.

But Sky Sports News HQ consequently learned from league officials they did not receive any paperwork from Real over the transfer.

United insist they signed and sent all relevant documentation on time and that they have the evidence to prove it.

They are also insistent Real have admitted they were at fault but now the 2014 European champions have decided not to take the matter any further.

Their reason is that with no leeway given by La Liga for late transfers to go through in the past, they did not feel they would be given any dispensation for this one to succeed.

The clubs had agreed a fee of £29m which would have seen de Gea return to his homeland and Navas go to Old Trafford as part of the deal.

As it is, both players will stay where they are, something United are understood to be relaxed about given de Gea is still on the same money as before after he rejected an improved deal.

Spanish football expert Guillem Balague confirmed to Sky Sports News HQ Real have decided to drop the matter for now.

He said: "Even though they may have had it confirmed by FIFA that they beat the deadline, they are not going to appeal to the league.

"That's it, the case is over. David de Gea will stay at Manchester United and Keylor Navas will be the goalkeeper for Real Madrid.

"They are not going to go any further because they realise by appealing to the league, there was no chance they were going to get what they wanted, which was for the deal to go through.

"There is no precedent for it. La Liga has been very strong from the beginning. From the beginning, they said they're not going to allow it to go through.

"The documents arrived at 00:28. Real Madrid decided not to appeal which means the case is closed."

Real Madrid's fault for haggling over the summer.

They could've signed him in the first week of July, but they decided to play hard-ball on the price, over a few millions. LOL.

Not to say they don't have the money. Feeling stupid right now eh? In your face Perez

Olympique Lyon pretty much confirms Martial's transfer to Man utd. lol. probably lyon might be receiving some kachingg from the transfer itself, else it would be very weird for them to tweet about their ex youth player lol

MANCHESTER UNITED SIGN ANTHONY MARTIAL FROM MONACO

Manchester United is delighted to announce that Anthony Martial has completed his transfer from AS Monaco. Anthony joins on a four-year contract with the option to extend for a further year.

Martial, 19, has made 70 appearances for AS Monaco since joining in 2013 and has scored 15 goals. The forward has represented his country from Under-16 level right through to Under-21, and was called up to France's senior national squad for the first time on 28 August.

Anthony Martial said: "I am so excited to be joining Manchester United. I have enjoyed my time at AS Monaco and I would like to thank them and the fans for everything they have done for me.

"I have always wanted to play in the Premier League and to join the biggest club in the world is what every young footballer dreams of. I am looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and working with Louis van Gaal who has achieved so much in his career."

Louis van Gaal commented: "Anthony is a naturally talented, young, multi-functional forward with great potential. We have been watching him for a while now and he has developed immensely during his time at AS Monaco.

"I am delighted he has joined Manchester United as I believe this is the right club for him to continue his development as a young player. He has all the attributes to become a top football player; however we need to give him time to adjust to his new environment and the rhythm of the Premier League."

UNITED STATEMENT ON DE GEA TRANSFER

QUOTE
Manchester United notes Real Madrid’s statement on the attempt to sign David De Gea and sell Navas to Manchester United. The Club feels compelled to provide some clarification with the following facts.

• Manchester United did not seek contact from Real Madrid for the sale of David. David is a key member of our squad and the club’s preference was not to sell. • No offer was received for David until yesterday.

• At lunchtime yesterday, Real Madrid made its first offer to buy David. A deal was agreed between the clubs, which included Navas being transferred to Old Trafford.  The deals were dependent on each other.

• In the last several hours of the process, with Navas at the Real Madrid training ground, Real Madrid were controlling the documentation processes of David, Navas and Real Madrid. Manchester United was in control only of the documentation of Manchester United.

• Manchester United sent transfer documents for both players to Real Madrid at 2042 BST.  David’s documentation was returned by Real Madrid to Manchester United without the signatory page at 2232 BST.

• At 22:40 BST, minutes before the deadline, major changes to the documentation came through to Manchester United which immediately put the deals at risk.  • Only at 2255 BST were the documents that are needed to cancel David’s contract received by Manchester United from Real Madrid.

• At this point Navas’ documentation was still not returned by Real Madrid.

• At 2258 BST, the transfer agreement was sent back by Manchester United, uploaded onto TMS and accepted – all before the deadline.

• It is our understanding that the deals couldn’t happen because:

- Real Madrid didn’t upload David’s documents onto TMS in time (Manchester United did)

- Real Madrid didn’t upload David’s documents to the Spanish league in time, per reports it seems some 28 minutes after the deadline • The fact that Manchester United filed the papers on time was acknowledged by the Football Association, who offered to support that claim in any discussions with FIFA. The Club offered this assistance, as well as its own timestamped documents to Real Madrid but they have chosen not to go down this route.

Manchester United acts appropriately and efficiently in its transfer dealings. The Club is delighted that its fan-favourite double Player of the Year, David de Gea, remains a Manchester United player.

kinda flabbergasted that man utd put off their interest on marco reus while negotiating with dortmund on januzaj's loan due to his 60mil pound evaluation.

surely man utd can afford that sum of money with all the clearance sales + 36mil (up to 50++ including future add ons) for a teenager.

maybe his major injury is the cause of concerns.

Hope Januzaj would learn something at BvB, especially their quick passing, one touch and movements. I think he is really lacking that part of his game, the decision making. He has good technique already, just not quite intelligent in making the right passes. hmm.gif

Real have the transfer ban looming, and if the rumour is to be believed, it would start on summer of 2016 until Jan 2017. DDG would be out of contract by then, and he has Euro 2016 to look ahead to. Probably Real will try again in Jan, but have to wait and see. Maybe DDG will sign a new contract, and Real has to up their bid. Their statements though, is really face saving exercise. They have whole summer to match United's evaluation of DDG, and left it on the last day knowing the risks. Really, Real?

Welcome, no. 9! Hope he will surprise us, as he is supposedly "unknown" to most of us, but I would rather think they the pros would have more information about him than us when they scout him in the past year at least. He has played from U-16 to U-21, and has been called up to senior squad for first time recently. So, he must be doing something right. I can't wait to see him play brows.gif

The fee was big for a player with only one year left on his contract. The fee which include Navas going our way was 30m pounds(Navas 10-15m EUR). Very good fee for us IMO. Win win. We got the money we wanted(obviously we wanted more, but we don't have the bargaining power), DDG got his move and Real get their man. They probably got cold feet by the reactions and the need to look after their ego and scuppered the deal somehow. They got Navas, and can always wait until next summer to get DDG for free. Cuntish club always looking to bully their way when buying players.

CR got his dream move, one La Liga and one CL to show for in 5 seasons. Hurray. Hope they win as much stuff in the next 5 seasons. Go Barca/Atletico Madrid!.

For those Romero haters after Swansea games, He really perform not bad so far for me, don't just because failed to perform in a match and judge him like a failure forever.. We should look at him for the whole season. Make fun of him just concede 2 goals will be too harsh for him, try to think to DDG first season, and the current Chelsea GK that concede so many goals for just first 4 games.. U should feel lucky we had signed for Romero who clean sheet for first 3 games in BPL.

Our signing so far quite well (6 players) and the only take down point is just LVG shouldn't release Chicha and Nani.

After the transfer dateline in England, LVG has trimmed the squad and we are left with only 24 first team players.

Out of the 24, five of them are promoted from the youth – Wilson, McNair, Lingard, Pereira & Johnstone.

Six players bought in this year – Depay, Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin, Darmian, Romero & Martial.

Four players bought in last year – Herera, Rojo, Blind & Shaw.

Two players bought in during Moyes time – Mata & Fellaini.

Seven first team players from SAF time – Rooney, De Gea, Jones, Smalling, Carrick, Young & Valencia.

Two first team players are loan out for more experience – Januzaj & Blackett.

Looking at this squad, my personal opinion is that the squad is too thin, and we might only win something with the big “Ifs” below.

1) No major injuries – If we have one or two major injuries to some of our main players, we will have problem with back-ups. As this year we have more games as compare to last, but the squad is smaller than the last year squad.
2) De Gea put aside his transfer to RM, and stays in goal!!
3) Rooney regain his form!!
4) Martial proves to be a good signing and started scoring goals – We have only one senior striker (Rooney) with an unproven Wilson. No matter what LVG says, Fellaini is not a striker. I like Fellaini, but I rate him as an attacking midfielder.
5) Schweinsteiger regain his fitness and perform better – As seen in the last few matches, he is not entirely fit/sharp.
6) Depay raises up his game and be consistent – He has shown potential in the last few matches, but he needs to perform consistently.
7) The defenders improve and perform consistently.

Romero cleansheet was due to off target shots most of the time. He didn't make much effort to save those. If they were on target shot, he will not get as much as 3 CS as start to EPL.

It is not that I against Romero but replacing DDG with him is a big big downstep.

Surprised with the price we've paid for martial. He probably worth 1/3 of that. Easily be the new bellion but it's a long way to go. Pace are his key strength, hopefully that will inject a new life to our attacking game.

Actually the list looks like reasonable moves overall. Main shock was the Martial price.

Main concern is after all this movement, GK and CB still look positions we need to "fix" in the near future. Striker position has been added to that, unless Depay/Martial/the team as a whole can shock us with their goal scoring returns over a season.

So plenty of cutting under-performers and guys who have little or no future at the club, some great signings.... but still some very obvious squad gaps.
