G&G become extremely popular simply because of Security.

I believe G&G in developed countries like Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway etc… is a foreign term, unless of course you’re the super-rich/elite/monarchy etc…

On the flip side, on the African continent, G&Gs look like prisons with chain linked barb wires, elephant fencing, flood lights, CCTV, motion sensors and of course armed guards. Yet incidence of murder and robbery still occur within a G&G.

The police in our country is plagued by laziness and using their time pursuing the wrong agendas. It therefore necessitates the public at large to form G&Gs. G&Gs may also present a false sense of security, crime will inevitably happen but the impact of it is significantly mitigated since opportunity to commit it has decreased or made difficult.

Criminals are like animals too. They hunt only the weak and forgo the strong. They will also hunt a prey that they will need the least amount of effort and resources to take down. Say for example a cheetah, why does it go after preys like antelopes but not an elephant?

I think ultimately, rather than depend on other people to provide for our safety, is best for us to take our own pre-emptive steps before someone get’s hurt or worse.
