Hi,

We are planning to rebuild a run-down bungalow and want to know how we can legally rent out or sub-let rooms or units in it?

The rooms will not have their own electric meter or anything like that, and it's not like a hotel or B&B where we will have housekeeping or run a coffeeshop, but just have extra space and want to rent them out to young working professionals employed in the office tower nearby, so they have a place to stay next to their job.

How can we do that? Do we need to convert the bungalow land title to commercial? Will someone from DBKL come and penalize us if we don't?

Thanks for any help.

Sam

google the star.
believe there was a recent article on these so called modified houses.
apparently no guideline it seems.
something like limits are set at 0.6 cubic meter per person or something like that.

The 0.6 cubic meters (or 70 cubic feet) is familiar yes, and we are well above that requirement.

I googled the Star and couldn't find anything, but basically you're saying there are no issues in just rebuilding the bungalow and renting out the rooms without the need for a title change or license?

Thank you so much, Kochin. That article was quite informative. It basically means we don't have to convert titles, which is what we were worried about.

- So the permission of the three houses opposite (Easy to get since they are commercial restaurants and will be happy about the increased business).
- Living area, pantry and laundry... check

What we'll need to find out is for 10 rooms in a bungalow, does that mean we can have 20 people? Is there some form of upper limit? The bungalow lot size is 8000 sq ft and we are expecting to have 15K sq. ft. bungalow.

Anyone who can contribute, would really appreciate it.
