per title, i am searching for a way to unpark cores in windows 10. Anyone knows how?

in windows 7, users can unpark the cpu cores. by default, windows sets other cores to idle mode when there isn't much load. by unparking the cores, all cores in the cpu will not be idle which boost improvements for fast paced games.

that's the story of w7 i think. did you check the resource meter? the last time i checked all core are unparked by default.

i can see cores = 4 but am not sure how to checked whether they are parked...

ok that page doesn't state that it's for w10 or not. (posts looked old to me) i'm not sure if the values used to control cpu core parking have been changed in w10.

in my case, there is nothing indicating the cores are at parked state in resource meter. (running on high performance power profile)

Process Lasso have the option as below picture, hope can help TS.

is it neccessary to manually adjust this core parking thingie? I think the cpu and windows especially 10, is smart enough to park and unpark cores accordingly.

As for games, multi-processor does not really help unless they are designed to make use of them. For games, the processor speed is more important. Then again, if some games support multi-core then it would be able to handle core parking, right?

I disable the cpu park using Process Lasso (Windows 7), will try on my Windows 10 desktop tonight.



Seem like my slow laptop responsive improved after unpark all the cores.

i am not sure either but in windows 7, after disable core parking, bf4 performs better. the huge amount of debris in game might require a lot of CPU power?

havent try yet on my windows 10, didnt have time to turn on my PC. Since Process Lasso claims it support windows 10 as well, so I dont think we have issues.

it doesn't make sense. When CPU power are needed, the software will request for it and CPU will be given. No need to manually manage. If you are using laptop, I would advise to look at your power settings. By default when running on battery, the CPU will be capped at lower speed. That might be the reason why performance is lower.

Open your power options. Edit whichever plan you are using. Look for Advanced Power Settings. Then Processor Power Management.

On my case, my office laptop is very slow even on Max performance profile with power adapter attached, turn out whichever i run a heavy programs, 2 of the core are still parked and does not turn on. Thats why I just turn off all of the parking status for all cores. BTW, this laptop using an intel i5 2520M.

Also I can prioritized I/O process for the most used programs on my laptop, so those programs now a bit smooth compare to before, and Process Lasso further do its job on prioritizing other processes.

instead of that, by turning off core parking. its like no need to tell. it will just available all the time! after using it it will still be active, not go back to idle state.

unpark my cores using Process Lasso without any problem on my Windows 10 Pro desktop.

Hi MaUI, would be great if you can share the screens and steps to do so.

From my knowledge, only Win7 have this bug whereby once the core is parked, it won't unpark.

Win8 and 8.1 solve this problem and user no longer need to unpark cores.
Same goes to Win10.

However, if your application (games) uses only 2 cores, the remaining cores will be parked.
No point to unpark them coz the application will not use them.
