would be helpful to at least point out what went wrong.

I had things that went VERY wrong and they rectified (to a certain extent), and had no issues with the product whatsoever (except for problems caused by myself)

IMO, get the 970M since you have the budget.

Also check if the GPU of MSI GE72-2QD is soldered on the motherboard or not.
Illegear Z5 GPU is soldered, so you won't be able to upgrade the graphic card in the future.

You don't have to buy the OS first. You can request for Windows 1 year tryout, and get the product key when you have the money.
I am currently using SSHD and it is fast enough for me (about half a minute booting up and shutting down)

I am using Illegear S5 currently, running very well. BSOD once but after upgrading the Graphic Driver no more BSOD.

You posted a question and a statement, and I'm going to respectfully answer a question and ask another question.

On Illegear's service:

There's no perfect service, like in my case there were some hiccups, (i'll explain slightly below) but they have as a company done much better than I think most other companies will do.

My situation;
a) I had a broken keyboard and needed replacement (user fault), but I had a faulty paintjob (it was an issue that I really fussed about, Illegear accepted it) and I wanted to perform an add on upgrade (adding ram to total of 32GB). I couldn't send my laptop to Illegear, (because Poslaju refused to sign the insurance for a RM8k device). I called Prince_J and despite the fact that I intruded upon his meeting schedule (for which was unintended and I apologize), he came up with a solution right away [something above and beyond, since the warranty i purchased is 'bring in warranty' and they could refuse to advice me on anything about delivery to them, but they were very helpful].

b) When my laptop arrived, to the point of delivery, their staff has been very polite and kind enough to update me on the status every now and then, as well as diagnosing the laptop on entirety and discovering setups that I've done wrong (thanks to Adil@Illegear) on a setup (which I've asked why my 980M was getting low benchmark scores in the Illegear thread).

c) I'm not exactly a very patient customer, and when I finally got my laptop back, I discovered that the DVD-ROM that I ordered did not arrive (I added on a HDD, RAM, and DVD-ROM). I informed Illegear via Prince_J, and without any excuses or denial, he sent me the DVD-ROM without even questioning.

Now, you may think that I'm just getting on Illegear's good side, but I'll say that if you switch Illegear to another company (especially those big players), chances are on situation A alone I'll be given the "sorry we don't really care, and why do you even want to send us your laptop" in the first place. Illegear did what they did, and I'm sure they're really up to the standard as a prim and proper Clevo reseller. Sure there are some bad stories, and if I'm super nitpicky i'll say things that happened to me should not have happened, but hey, Illegear did way better than most companies, I think.

Besides, just on that RMA + upgrade + this and that, other companies would have "pening" and deferred, but Illegear didn't. Kudos to them I'll say.

My POV is that, rather wait for nvidia pascal and intel skylake for mobile. Worth waiting for both of them implemented into laptops (well intel skylake has already been released for that). Maybe more expensive, but gives you more time to mine more money and accumulate into your budget.

Imagine z5 with gtx1070m (just saying), intel skylake i7 6XXXHQ/QM and 16gb ddr4 ram...
