no malay dun keep family name,
the rank name like syed, sharifah, tenku, che, wan.. that all not use anymore, as anybody can put son name syed ali, even hhis dad is not syed.
this rank name only use long time ago, now no more, u can see pipul name syed but poor as fark.
so no family name for maleis, my name start with Mohd, my dad also start with mohd, that not family name, my granddad start with abdul.
malay families like do some pattern for names in familes, like all start with mohd, all start with siti, all start with ahmad, all had initial A, something like that, and no thats not rank or family name. that syok sendiri family name.
so conclusion, no malay dont have family name.
