i think the most commonly heard is the 'merican' surname.. last time petronas president also got this surname. not sure everybody is related or not..

another one that i think quite uncommon is AB.. at 1st, i thought it is the short form for 'abdul', and it is not. it was pronounced as A-B..

merican, jinnah, kadir --- mamak

bro...those were example for "malay" names la...

eg; syed is just in the beginning of their names. For example my friend's full name Syed Zainal Abidin Aljunid bin Syed Abdul Kadir Aljunid. I can see he's very proud to intro and carry only the name Syed Aljunid. Even his sports jerseys only printed this name.

This is patronymic naming system... not just limited to malay...i think some indians( anak lelaki/anak perempuan) and bumiputera in sabah/sarawak(bin/binti) follow this system...

YES TRUE!!!

malay dont have family name.
yang ada famili name tu bukan ketuanan melayu.

contoh:
Nasution, Siregar - asal BATAK
Merican: - asal India...MAMAK
al-habshi, etc: asal arab.

Today im at goverment place, suddenly got a few name been called

All got same surname

Eg Ali Merican Ahmad Merican

    Syakira Merican Ahmad Merican

And so on, why liddis ah? Why malay got family name? They proud of ancestors or what?
*
Got, as long as they want it, they can have a family name and give their children the family name, in the end, just a name, as long as government officer approves the name no problem.

Who stupid now.. if u can't accept the different way of others doing stuff, is all stupid now? Wow master race much?

Back in those days, only Malays of rank carry surnames.

What rank is up to them. It varies. To the most ppl who still having them these days, merely to follow the clan their ancestors belong to. Nothing much of rank d.

Deal with it.
