QUOTE
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age is role-playing video game developed and published by Square Enix. An entry in the longrunning Dragon Quest video game series, it was released in Japan for the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation 4 in July 2017, and will be released worldwide for the PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows in September 2018, as well as for the Nintendo Switch sometime beyond 2018.

Dragon Quest XI continues the gameplay of previous games in the series, in which players explore worlds and fight against various monsters, including the ability to explore high areas.

Unfortunately no , they have intentionally not doing the voice overs for JP / Chinese and were still using the transparent frame menu because Japanese old school DQmania like them.

Not to mention I often find the English voice acting a little distracting in most localized jRPG.

Regardless this is a must play , especially the epilogues of the game. .
Time travel in an old fantasy game is just way too cool smile.gif

P/S : Did I mention You get free games ( actual free games which are redeemable on PSN ) by beating DQ11 ?

I was very skeptical on English voice over for all JRPG, IMO most are horrible, until DQVIII, which is top notch
love the heavy accent they used, hope it will be similar for the English ver of XI

Updated the thread so it will look more dated and nicer.

Well hopefully there is a Japanese audio for NA release. If not that's a big let down for me.

No , the entire Japanese version is not voiced , not a single line . Like the DQ8 Japanese version had no vocals at all .

The series director wanted the game to remain fresh but still giving off the nostalgic vibe to the long time DQ fans. Yea I know the Japanese retro gamers are weird like that
At the same time they have also remastered the previous iconic soundtracks from DQ 6 , DQ 7 and DQ8 to be reused in some of cutscenes , which is extremely well done .

On the external , the game may look like a childish Oldschool jRPG .
But it is actually a masterpiece with Toriyama's artstyle captured perfectly on Unreal engine , matched with some of the best game presentation Square Enix has ever done in the last 20 years .

If you ask me , this game BLOWS the FFXV to the water . Not that it actually means anything

Dragon quest is one of the few remaining JRPG still traditionally rooted to the formula which defines it. Look at FF15, if it's still FF or not.

What I like is , they stick to the old formula and improve upon it . It is fun to play , not overly complicated yet have depth of gameplay. The real time party member switch (like Pesona 5 ) is great so you don't have to leave out anyone behind and use them equally .

It has a lot of what we liked in the old games , gigantic hidden bonus dungeon to be found , A whole new world of Epilogue to unlock new story post ending , a whole bunch of sweet costumes for every of these likable and playable characters , all come at no extra cost of silly DLC or microtransaction .Sadly these days that almost sound like a miracle.

What FF15 did on the other hand was the complete opposite , look at how they are selling Pay2win overpower weapons via DLC packs disgust me
Its not a bad game , just not ever going to live up to the brand 's name .

One rather stick to it's core, and the other one prefers to try something new and go the modern route. I think you need both of this types of games in the end.

Tho this days RPG which is more traditional appeals more lately.

Just waiting to get my hands on this game, seriously slow as f. Wish it came out sooner.

Rather play this than Spiderman tbh. Also it's not that there isn't any hype for this game, those who really want to play DQ 11 already played the Japanese version a year ago.

Anyone know where I can buy a harp? It's no available in any shops..Only like 12 hours in tho

i am only 7 hours into the game.. and few tips to new adventurers:
1. when you were galloping (press r2) with your horse, you can just ram through all the mobs. you get no exp though...
2. there is no need for you to dismount your horse just to collect materials (sparkling spots, etc.). this is a vevry nice feature to go around the map to collect mats.
3. you can arrange your item using triangle button
4. all materials/items that you got from looting/chest etc will go into the characters bag by default. if you want to put everything into the general bag, press triangle in item window (without getting into the character's specific bag) to get all unequipped item such as potions, crafting mats into the general bag. this is slightly different from previous DQ series whereby under 'misc', there were 'sort item' options.
5. character control: option button is for auto run. R2 is to sprint.

I found dq11 is significantly easier in comparison to its predecessors. Of course I'm just about 10h into gameplay, but various points have been tweaked to make it more user friendly.

1. Map will show important characters to talk to
2. Auto saving.
3. Auto revive characters after battle to 1hp
4. Objective text in map

I have played dq123456789 except 10, I would welcome the change but can't help the feeling that next gen gamers cannot adapt to old school dq?

I found dq11 is significantly easier in comparison to its predecessors. Of course I'm just about 10h into gameplay, but various points have been tweaked to make it more user friendly.

1. Map will show important characters to talk to
2. Auto saving.
3. Auto revive characters after battle to 1hp
4. Objective text in map

I have played dq123456789 except 10, I would welcome the change but can't help the feeling that next gen gamers cannot adapt to old school dq?
*
auto revive? are you sure this is in the game? because i do have several characters died at the end of a battle and it stayed like that after until someone use zing on them to revive.

Yes hero alone will revive with 1hp but not others

oh well, younger gen of gamer are well pampered unlike the older days of us hardcore players with all sorts of near impossible challenges thrown at us yet we still prevails.

games nowadays has lots of quality of life changes, to make it more welcoming to newcomers

auto saving it's a must nowadays, most won't have the patient to go thru the usual DQ classic saving process at church which will take up to a minute where you need to confirm few times laugh.gif
last time it might takes you an hour or more just to find a church to save your progress especially when you're in a new area

well, at least on 3DS you can just close the lid and leave it on standby anytime

last time old gen console where can standby, die die must find a church first before switching off laugh.gif

Die. Just die lor. Wait for revive. I always hated games where main character KO and game over. Like ok... His 2-6 friends all couldn't help him out? Hahah

I think you misunderstood a bit. He is dead yes when battling, but the team mates can revive him. What he meant was when the battle is over only the hero will auto revived with 1hp. If other party member dies, need to revive from church or with skill. But hero if dead in battle will always have one hp and still alive. I think it makes a lot of sense, he is the hero after all.

Hero K.O not game over like Persona 5 at least for DQ11. So it's not an issue.

Beyond the Beyond, that was a title I haven't heard for more than a decade!

The golden age of JRPG, how I wish games are more similar today, but next gen gamers do not appreciate turn based system. I have known people who refused to touch Persona 5 because it was not an action RPG.

I have completed Beyond the Beyond on PSX.

Insane game, not human play wan. Every few steps fight monster and grind kaw-kaw.

I have just completed Octopath Traveller on switch....that game is hard compared to DQ....the post game bosses side quest even harder than the bosses!  I havent kill all the side quest bosses yet...crazy. Also needs tons of grinding.
*
talk about brutal, Famicom/NES's FF3 final dungeon is what I called brutal

zero save point, few steps will trigger a battle, and you'll have to fight 4 difficult bosses first before you can defeat the final boss, which can wipe your team with a single attack doh.gif

By NES it means your ff6 = ff3 right? Kefka boss? That required u to use all your characters, tough luck for underleveled party. I played during psx re-release.

nope, the original FFIII, it was never released in the west for NES, it's released for famicom's short cartridge only, I have to use a converter to play it on my NES
I only managed to beat it after many years on the EN translated version ROM
it's only later 3D remake on DS & other modern platforms, which is easier

Imagine, the whole game is in Jap, with me near zero knowledge in Jap, have to play guessing game by reading few of the kanji
and in the era of internet dark age? Not helping also is the ultimate big boss at home with a rattan breathing down your neck laugh.gif

btw, FF6 is released as FF3 in the west previously
Kefka boss? piece of cake for me tongue.gif as I tends to overleveled my characters, old habits from olden RPG days tongue.gif

There is something about DQ and ceilings. In DQ builders, if you try to use Chimera wings, you will hit ceiling if inside caves and it wont work.

Even outside, if there is something above blocking(etc, ledges), you will fly up, hit the ceiling, fallback and cant teleport.

Maybe its some kinda fetish of the developers...lol
*
that's the part I like about DQ series, some humor there

you can cast zoom almost anywhere, but whether you hit your head on the ceiling or not is another story laugh.gif

too bad they remove this little humor in the latest DQ

Around 70 hours, and i'm done with the main story, and this includes the true ending.
Now to play clear the rest of the side quest and etc, and 100% the game.

Story wise it's very good. Battle wise, literally like old jrpg games. Characters are nice, the world is great. Art direction and everything pretty good. My only problem would be the midi osts, it's a bit too high pitched, but the rest no issues. On PC I downloaded an orchestra mod, so it isn't midi songs. Overall really good, worth the 5 year wait.

Now to wait for DQ 12

Not sure how many hours i have played....this game seems to be really easy. I have reached the placw now under that orphanage with the one eyed spider monster boss. This is first boss i have bit of trouble with (because i didnt even bother to grind at all and run straight to the boss without fighting any monster in the dungeon.)

The battle system is kinda lacking.....maybe my expectaction too high after completing Octopath Traveller.

I am on "normal" and find it easy too, should have started with harder mode. Classic JRPG were harder to play or maybe I was too young back then. tongue.gif

Dragon Quest X Offline Version May Come to the West
October 9, 2018Written by Aidan Simonds
dragon quest 10 offline

The release of Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age has certainly revitalized the Dragon Quest franchise in the West. With the increased attention, many have been wondering if this means Dragon Quest X might finally see release outside of Japan. Well, we could finally see this long-elusive, though in a possibly different fashion.

In case you don’t know, Dragon Quest X is a departure for the iconic RPG series. It is an MMORPG. Originally released for the Wii 2012, it was later ported to a number of consoles, including the PlayStation 4. When speaking of a possible worldwide release, former Dragon Quest X Producer Yosuke Taito (who left in August 2018), had this to say:

Even within the traditional Dragon Quest series, Dragon Quest X is packed with excellent stories. Talk of an offline version often comes up, and I don’t think the possibility is zero. It would be great if we could introduce it to fans to play somewhere.

Dragon Quest Series Producer Yuu Miyake followed up by saying, “Since Dragon Quest X has tons of rich stories, I would like to make something that can tell those stories, including to players overseas.” Miyake also stated a wish to bring an develop an offline version of the RPG.

Now, this is far from a full-blown confirmation of a Dragon Quest X localization. However, it does certainly show the desire is there. One of the producers of Dragon Quest XI previously said more localizations depend on sales numbers, so hopefully the buzz around Dragon Quest XI will help its case. Dragon Quest XI is certainly a critical success, so we shall see if that will translate to more Dragon Quest titles being brought to the West.

Just platinum-ed the game ... well worth the time.
I very rarely chase trophies, once finished with main story, next game ... happy.gif

DQXI however, since the post-game is a must also, and since already almost explored all places, forged almost all fashionable costumes, picked up and dropped almost all vases, read almost all red books, opened almost all chests, almost puff-puffed all, etc., might as well complete all the trophies. ^0^

Still need online guides tho, especially the crossbow targets ... those ar ... =_="

Only played DQVIII on PS2 before ... this brings back the fond memory and feel of enjoying 200+ hours of slow paced story/gameplay (sometimes slept while playing ^o^). However, last time can play with one hand only while the other hand was feeding my mouth with keropok/food/drinks; the control scheme was mirrored on both side of Dualshock 2. This time, still can almost play with one hand but not really.

Looking forward to DQXII in the future, or DQX if really offline localised to English version.

Platinumed the game 2 weeks ago clocked at 160h. The longest game before this was Persona 5 at 120h. Witcher 3 is not counted because of the expansions.

Let us hope they would bring DQX as suggested.

Hmm, agreed. But taking into consideration you are only playing the post-game event, which ultimately lead to the true ending, it is ok to stop where you are. This is like playing SOTN and say the inverted castle dungeon is a drag as well.

I love it albeit the repetitiveness.

Skill points, depends on which weapons you preferred but for me, I'll try to go for dual-welding, strength, weapon+ for fighters, magic might for caster, magic mending for healer; and ya, limited becoz when reached Level 99, will still be short of some skill points.

Can't remember now, but each fighters got one or two skills that can deal more damage, not all skills do ... can't really guess from the description, have to try. (Will edit this when got more free time later)

But if you're gonna farm skill seeds, then won't be problem which skills to open first.

Edit:
Most used skills for me (every gamer, I think will play differently):-
Hero - Pep Up, Omniheal, Helichopter (early game), Cutting Edge (early game), Unbridled Blade (end game), Dual-Wielding, Sword Dance,
Erik - Dual-Wielding, Divide, Falcon Slash, Half-Inch, Twomerang, Double Down, Cobra Strike+Victimiser,
Veronica - Channel Anger, Enchanting Echo, Kaboomle, Zing Stick,
Serena - Holier Hymns, Kaswooshle, err ... can't remember, mostly put into Magic Mending and stats rather than skills first.
Rab - Kacrackle, Kazammle, Zing Stick (before auto getting Kazing),
Jade - Femme Fatale, Pink Tornado, Lightning Thrust (good for farming metal slimes), Hardclaw,

... anyway, almost pointless to list out which skills to open first, becoz like mentioned earlier, it all depends on your character builds.

I'm still slowly progressing it. Just received the key that can unlock various treasure around the world from the demon portrait. I believe I still have a long way to go.

Any recommendation for the skill points? I saved a lot of them because I do not know which skill is preferred.

Too many games to play.... I have to fiinish all kingdom hearts game before the release of kingdom heart 3.... bangwall.gif  bangwall.gif

Thanks. Is it hard to farm skill seeds? I guess I can get this information from youtube. Just a question as in is it time consuming?

Not really hard when farming ... but need to prepare lotsa things before farming ... lotsa pep pips.

I used these guide:-
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/179347...ve-age/77078274
https://www.reddit.com/r/dragonquest/commen...ed_farming_for/

The Hallelujah pep skill for Hero, Jade and Erik will guarantee you'll get skill seed. So, you need to drag one Malicious Great Keeper towards another, so that can fight 2 at the same time, and will get 2 skill seeds every fight. Problem is sometimes only one appear in the battle altho already nearby another ... in that case I won't waste 2 pep pips to pep up Jade and Erik (Hero can pep up anytime, after getting his special skill), will just hope L'academie uniforms, bunny tails and Vest for Success combo will get 1 skill seed.

Estimated around 6 hours(?), getting enuf pep pips, and skill seeds. In the end, I overfarmed skill seeds, because still got side-quests, chest, trials that will give extra skill seeds (so, maybe do all those first before farming).

You don't need to farm skill seeds. If you are aiming for the platinum, your characters have to reach level 99, which is more than enough to fill up all but 1 perk.

Ya, true, like what Zeliard said ... will left one one skill unopened for each character, if you don't mind not completing all... no trophies for that.
Reaching level 99 for each are the trophies required for platinum trophy.

One problem with googling guides before almost finishing the game ... there'll be spoilers which will minimize your enjoyment/surprise of the storyline ...

So, don't worry about trial and error/experimenting with which skills to open first ... you can always spend gold to undo the branch of skills (will cost a lot depending on how many already opened), but gold always easier to farm.

Got it! Then I will continue with the story then. Since so far I do not have any issue facing the boss yet.
