Found one very good link for guitar lessons (beginner and advanced). Install UltimateGuitar in the Video add-on.

BB
Played a movie from my Hdisk using pre-installed Media Center in H8.

Surprised that it does not have STOP, FORWARD buttons. Only PLAY, PAUSE, SKIP CHAPTERS buttons.

Very limiting when compared with PC's VLC etc.

Maybe I have not explored enough.

Need to install and use other media playing software?

Thanks.

Thanks for sharing the info bro, highly appreciated that.

Regarding the Forward and Backforward question, most of the player has removed the forward and backward button, I believe there is reasons for that. If you use other 3rd party player, you might not able to enjoy the build in hardware codec.

QUOTE(skt2 @ Oct 25 2015, 11:48 AM)
Hi, I am considering either a Himedia TV Box, (can be H8 or older model) vs Xiaomi "enhanced" Mibox 3. Seen these Lowyat forums have many compliments on you about good service, sharing of knowledge. Hope to get your advice to make up mind.
1. What 30+ preinstalled apps and stream you provide? Including HiTV, cloudtv etc (see mango NO already)?
2. Are they going to work in Malaysia even without subscribing paid version of IPTV and VPN?
3. HiTV developed by Himedia supported by 6 main China stream sources but all have geoblock. HiTV or other apks/stream apps you pre-installed can really watch good quality HK/Taiwan/China/Korea movies/drama and western movies? These main China stream sources usually not working, either no access link or throated speed. Tried rounds of free VPN and switching, DNS as solution taught on website, all are not really works well. May be I have not explored enough but you all are expert, able to pre-configure before selling.
4. I am already an user of Kodi with addons like azdrama, icefilm etc., western apks like Showbox, MovieHD, Popcorn time etc. on tablet but facing above restriction. Just wish to add above requirement on a new tvbox with more capabality.
5. Above streaming requirement from China sources seems solvable by "enhanced" Mibox3. Only the hardware spec and features not as strong as Himedia products. I will select Himedia product if it can do what "enhanced" Mibox3 can do.

Thanks!

Thank you for inquiry.

1). Beside HiTV, CloudTV, there are Kodi, Showbox, PopcornTime and more. Sorry bro, could not disclose here publicly, otherwise it will be throttled by local ISP. The 30++ apps included tools such as backup and etc. If include Chinese apps, there are more 50++ apps in the repository. Anything you have in mind just tell us, we could install for you.
2). Those famous Chinese apps such as YouKu, Qiyi, Tuduo has Geo restriction, but there are many 3rd party Chinese streaming apps that work as relay agent to relay the movies outside China, no VPN required.
3). I do not want to discuss HiTV openly here, we do not do any tricks in the HiTV. Free stuff need some effort, the apps are come and go, for example PPS and QVOD are very good apps, unfortunately it were killed. However, when one app is killed, new apps will born again. As well as you follow the thread closely, you will get the new apps.
4). Kodi are none commercial developed platform, I did not see much Geo restriction in Kodi. Maybe you use the wrong Addons, read more about Kodi in the below thread. Similarly. Kodi addons are come and go, switch your addons when necessary.
https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...&#entry77021428
5). Sorry bro, Himedia do not copy Mibox 3 as the hardware manufacturer should focus on the box and not the content. Media content might attract buyer for short term. In long terms, the hardware manufacturer will stop those illegal content service. As mentioned in point#2, there are many developer already done that which relay the content from the main China stream sources. Similarly Genesis in Kodi also relay the movies from the major streaming source from US and Europe.

Find MOVIEHD (pre-installed in H8) good, fast and almost 100% success in streaming.

However, I cannot pause, fast forward, view how long is the movie etc. Tried many buttons on the remote.

Possible to preset these in MOVIEHD?

Or I have to live with the current defaults?

Thanks.
*
MoviesHD player is mouse operate app, plug in your PC mouse, left click you see Pause and fast forward.

Additional tips: when you choose the movies to play, don't click play but click "custom" then it will prompt for player, you can choose Kodi or MX player pro or other player. Choose kodi player in order to utilize Kodi features such as subtitle and audio offset.

There was an app called "One key access" or something.

Meaning you can set when you press "1" on your remote, a designated app will open.

I cannot find it in Q8.
*
Oic, this only avaible in Mango Launcher. Because H8 is selling in Europe and US, the oversea buyer do not like the Mango launcher because of the Chinese characters therefore Himedia change to English launcher which do not have One Key Access.

Let me ask himedia if they can give me One Key Acces app, will come back to you.

2 things:
1. Why the storage seems small? I just got the device, but cannot install my second app already. This doesn't happened to my Q16.
2. The one key access is available in the APP from system view, but cannot find it inside the application.
*
1). Q16 storage partition is 4GB for apps and 9GB for the rest. H8 is 2GB for apps and 11GB for the rest. Therefore you can stream Popcorn time online up to 9GB in Q16 and H8 could stream upto 11GB movie in Popcorn time. Storage detail could find from Settings - More - Storage

2).H8 is mainly selling to US and Europe, Chinese apps are hidden from H8 application. One Key Access is one of the Chinese app not ready to release for US and Europe market. Even u see the app in System view, it is unable to launch.

Solved the problem with a usb mouse and keyboard. But I'm having issues with wifi. For some reason speed test shows wifi speed on hi media being ~500kbps. On my 10mbps maxis network. My other devices show much faster speeds. Any recommendations?
*
Please share with me how do you test speed in Himedia and on other device.

Just to share, whether Maxis or TM or TIME, the committed speed by your ISP is best effort within Malaysia network only, it does not guaranteed you have the same full speed in oversea. Especially most of the streaming content servers are oversea. Snapshot the below two speed test for reference, both test at the same router same PC same speed test tool and same timing :

The below speed test from my router to Kuala Perlis :

The below speed test from my router to Shanghai :
user posted image

There is significant speed different between local Malaysia and Oversea, the reason is the international trunk between the countries. Most of the local ISP has better peering with US and Japan, but peering with other countries are limitted, some passthru US or Japan which cause the speed deteriorated. If not mistaken, TM has Internet peering with Hong Kong, the traffic to China content servers are psssthru HK.

In summary, even we have 30MB with your ISP, it does not mean you have 30MB across worldwide, it depend on the international bandwidth available when stream movies from oversea content servers.

Which is the best performing android player eg. no lag or bugs?

Is it X8H plus (quad core) or this HIMEDIA H8 (Octa Core) or other model?
*
To be honest, most of the android could perform its jobs well in term of online streaming. Himedia or Minix are not making magic to the box, but the stability of the box and wiling to continue improve the product as per customers feedback is the differentiation. Below buyer reference guide for your reference :

https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3201002/+1

I will not say minix and Himedia box do not have lagging, but we guide our customers to use the apps that could stream smoothly.

In term of Media codec and audio passthru, Minix is still behind Himedia because Himedia original strength is producing media player, it support wide range video and audio codec.
