H8 Octa core 2GB ram model latest firmware is 107, I think you goto wrong folder already. 3.0.1 is under the Q16 folder, pls take note.

H8 Octa core 1GB budgetary model is use different firmware, pls kindly take note. The latest firmware for budgetary model is 1.0.5.

As per my firmware step by step guide, there is two method to refresh firmware, via setting or Restore button. Restore button is clean upgrade, but it will purge all the apps installed. My usual advise is apply new patch only if you encounter problem.
*
Many thanks. Don't know why in my head I think I have Q16! Ha. Maybe due to the fact I was thinking of getting Q16 before! Ha.

Thanks for highlighting my error. Otherwise I will be wasting my time and creating a mess to solve later. Ha.

Nicety,

Used my H8 last night and surprise, surprise, it started with the Androidsymbol rather than the usual Himedia word on the screen. It was updating. Took some time and later when the main menu appeared, the bottom favourites menu is gone now.

AA
Is this Android update? I thought I have disabled the auto update.

BB
Any settings I need to adjust after this Android update?

CC
To set my own favourites at the screen bottom, just use the + button to add. Right?

Thanks.

A quick update here.

AA
Updated to the latest H8 firmware 1.0.7

BB
Upgraded Kodi V14 to V15

CC
Upgraded Android to xxx (can't remember the version now).

Why so many updates? It started a few days ago on starting up my H8, it updated the Andriod WITHOUT me initiating it. Surprised to see the Android symbol on the startup as we do not normally see that on starting up.

With a number of emails with Nicety seeking his help, managed to complete the 3 updates. Many thanks!

Copied all the latest APK files in Nicety's skydrive and tried to install them on my H8. Surprised that half way through the APK files, it says running out of space! Can't be, we have 16 GB RAM. The APK files are about 1 GB only. Installing is done in the 2 GB ROM? Cannot be.

Please clarify where am I going wrong here. Thanks.

P/S If there is an APK QQQ installed earlier, if I install it again, I assume that the system will not allow me to reinstall QQQ again until I uninstall it first. Right?

If it allows duplicate installation, that may partly explain why I am running out of space with duplicates.

Goto Settings - More - storage, you could see the free storage space.

There are three partition in your 16GB flash memory:

1). Kernel
2). internal memory 2GB ( app partotion )
3). Flash space 12GB ( file partition )

I have many APK files in my skydrive, pls don't install all. Just install necessary apps and uninstall the none usable apps. I believe your app partition already full if you install most of the APK files from my skydrive. Please check your storage free space.

P/S : pls skydrive has 5 steps quick restore Kodi, the Kodi 15.2 configuration files already available in the skydrive.
*
Thanks for the infor on the 3 partitions.

AA
Possible to increase the 2 GB app partition to say 4 GB?

BB
Strange that this is Android architecture (in Window, one can install as many programs as one likes as long as the hd allows. Running the programs, however, will be limited by the ROM).

Tried to delete some apps. Some successful and some not. There are some phone related apps in there. When I tried to uninstall, it does not have this uninstall option. Only clear memory. Please advise on how to uninstall apps like this.

CC
Wonder what is the file partition for? So much free unused space there.

DD
With low memory space, this affects running Kobi, stuck here and there. How much free space should I aim for?

EE
Doing this updating has helped me in knowing more on Android and Kobi.

Discovered that there are some good apps ( Movie HD, Movie Tube, etc etc). Tried a few movies and I could watched them without any bad links rejection. In some ways, better than Kodi where at times, it is try, try and try. User interface is better in Kodi (nicer graphic), however.

Cheerio.

AA). The partition is fix in the  factory, unable to increase.
P/S : pls don't install too many apps in the box, install only usable apps to avoid slow down. Some apps might cache in the memory when boot up.

BB). The same is in the Windows, the only different is most of the  windows partition in single partition and typical PC has 300GB -500GB of harddisk space compare to 16GB flash memory in Android box. Those apps without "uninstall" are factory install apps, you can only uninstall the apps you installed.

Hints : some of the app has option "move to SD", goto settings - more - apps - sd card.

CC). File partition is emulated your SD card, you store movies, backup APK files and etc. if you use Popcorn Time or P2p streaming apps, this partition is very important for staging of large movie file.

DD). Already mentioned in the getting started guide, always remain 200MB space for Kodi.

EE). Yes, I agreed with you some apps are more user friendly then Kodi, that is the reason we share in the skydrive. But please use it low profile to avoid blocking by local ISP. I do not publish those apps openly due to this.
*
Many thanks once again for your reply.

Please suggest to Himedia to increase the 2GB to 8-10GB for future models. I know someone will fill up no matter how much space is there. But less people will be complaining and experiencing this problem. Ha.

Yes, saw the "move to SD card" option when I was trying to delete some apps. Will try this later.

I have about 170 MB free. Will try to delete some more apps.

Sorry for mentioning the good apps in your Skydrive. Those reading this, just delete that from your memory! Ha.

Cheerio.

A quick feedback from me on my H8 journey here ....

Past 15+ years using ASTXX.

Bought my H8 and after trying it out for about a month, cancelled ASTXX last month. Now on H8!

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly

GOOD
* much better choice and variety of TV shows, movies than ASTXX! Eg Adam Ruins Everything, concerts, etc. Watch what and when I want to!
* no problem with Korean, Taiwan TV shows for my wife
* no problem for my 3 kids watching their respective programs
* NICETY has been most helpful in sorting out my problems, even on the recent New Year day! He is there 24/7!
* NICETY has lots of updates in his Skydrive. Some good APK in there but only for NICETY's customers. Ha.

BAD
* my wife misses ASTRO's #306 Chinese news (better than Channel 7, 8 news)
* even with 2 GB and 16 GB hardware in H8, one will reach the limit for apk installation in no time! Unless one is very stringent in what one installs.
* annoying when one has to use mouse for certain add-on and apk, rather than just the remote. Wish one day, all add-ons and apks can be used with EITHER mouse OR remote.

UGLY
* being new to Android and Kodi, can be a nightmare for beginners like me while trying out things. E.g. installed iStream the other day thinking it was an add-on, it messes up the configuration I have set up in Kodi add-on. iStream is a build! Be ware! Need a quick lesson on terms like add-on, build, apk, etc, etc. Cannot undo with the above mistake. A pity! Have to re-install Kodi etc. NICETY has the 5 easy steps for this.
* Android has rather frequent version updates. Version 16 is coming soon. Resulting problem is having to re-install Kodi, add-ons, build, etc. Maybe there is a simpler way to save one's configurations (Kodi & apk) and reuse them after the Android update. Will find out later.

After going through this steep learning curve, would I still cancel my ASTXX and switch over to H8 if I could turn back time? YES! Lots more things to explore and enjoy! Get the TVBox with at least 2 GB to minimise annoying problems creeping up in your TV show/movie discovery!

Hook up H8 to AVR for better sound enjoyment while watching movies and concerts! Now I have a cinema in my house! Ha.

Cheerio.

P/S I am on Streamyx 8 Mbps and so far not much problems in streaming even when my kids are on wifi.

Thank you for the feedback bro. But the support not 24/7, need to eat and sleep  biggrin.gif

I'm also generic users, I share what I have learned in the past to my customers in order to Optimise the box and apps functionality. Please bear with me if my response some slow.

Today received email from Netflix, the service already for Malaysia, no VPN require anymore. Will test it if the apps works well for Rickchip and HiSilicon Chipset.
*
Have already signed up with Netflix and tested on H8. No buffering, good picture quality etc etc. Only complaint is I cannot pause the movie. Once you start it, no more control. Ha. Maybe it is because I do not know how to do that.

I thought I have tried the remote and mouse the other night. Will test it again the next time I use Netflix.

Give me a shout if you see some good movies/documentaries in Netflix! Thanks.

i just had a look at H8 1+8.
if i just want to watch online tv & movie, watch many of my offline movies (in external hdd), is H8 1+8 enough? i understand (may be wrong) that even the 2+16 has a bigger storage (16gb), it has been partitioned in such that user partition is quite small to install a lot of other apps. Not sure if pay more for 16gb is worth or not.
*
My advice is to get the 2+16 version. I was thinking of getting the 1+8 version first as a test, add memory if needed. Checked with Nicety on whether I could add the memory later if I needed it.

Answer is, no, cannot add memory. Like your mobile phone. You are stuck with what you purchased.

I am already facing memory problem even with 2+16 version. Wish that they have a 4+32 version! Ha.

Enjoy your new toy!

after 3 days of local netflix, i will say...
... it is easy to use, smooth and reliable.

... himedia and many other androids are not netflix certified, so cannot get 4k uhd videos even if yr tv is 4k.

... content is VERY limited, e.g. only 40 tv shows.

... those like me who watch a good no. movies and tv shows will find little to watch.

... i only found ONE to watch - NARCOS, a 10-episode tv show.

... so, i will give it up soon.
back to other apps. biggrin.gif
*
Thanks.

The GOOD
Easier to use. Starts streaming without any problem (unlike Kodi where luck plays a part).

The BAD
Not much choice after watching a few of what you fancy. Watched the one about the internet boy (Aaron S) yesterday. Pity him at what happened to him.

The DECISION
I don't think I will continue with it after my free 1 month! Ha.

And Kodi & apk are better in choice and variety.

Just to say thank you to Nicety for his help.

Very rarely have I encountered a seller who is so after-sale focused with excellent and friendly service. biggrin.gif

Me being new to TV box, Android and not knowing much about it, his patience and willingness in sorting out my problems are highly commendable. rclxms.gif

My advice to those new to TV box with limited knowledge on Kodi, apps, Android etc, don't just look for the cheapest TV box. The few RM you may save by buying elsewhere may cost you lots of headache and hassle in using the TV box. Nicety's help is second to none here. thumbup.gif

Nicety's cloud sharing for his customers is icing on the cake where he compiles the latest firmwares, latest Kodi, good apps, download/backup/etc procedures. whistling.gif

Just one criticism on Nicety, if I may. He does not give discount! Ha. vmad.gif Now I understand and appreciate better his business mission and strategy - provide the best after sales service at a given price.

Cheerio.

P/S I am not related to Nicety (he is in Penang while I am in Bintulu). And we are NOT in any joint business venture. This is a genuine feedback from a happy customer. rclxm9.gif

No plan yet because Q5 Pro has better video quality and the price is very close.

As one who has used both, yes, Q5 Pro is better than H8 even though Q5 has smaller GB.

More stable, faster and nice small features not in H8. Eg when press and hold on the down key, it will just move 1 line down in H8. In Q5, it will scroll down continuously. Good when you have to go down a long list.

The extra few RM is well worth the Q5 Pro!

You will get more happy customers with better TV Box! Win win for both!

What has been improved compare to H8 2+16?
1). Dual Band WIFI
2). Additional USB Port, USB2.0 Host*3
3). Bluetooth 4.0
4). Single Storage partition solving insufficient space to install apps.
5). 1000 Base-T Ethernet

*
Wah!

Which Android version in this?

azdrama is mati (I think).

Have followed what Nicety has suggested, using another add-on now can watch more or less the same shows as azdrama in the past.

Sometimes the buffering is due to the source (too many users there etc ).

Suggest trying to use different sources and see.

Also, traffic is high (and thus slow) in the afternoon when viewing China sources.
