Any posts with incorrect statement(s) on SST credit card tax will be removed without notice. The section's T&C has been updated to include notice on removal of incorrect/misleading SST discussions and applicable throughout the section.

If the card issuer offers to pay on your behalf then it need to be accurately stated so. It shall not be considered a "waiver", "reward", "gift" or anything with similar definition. Someone else is paying the SST credit card tax although is it not the cardholder.

SST discussions clean-up ops received and in effect.

SST discussions are never disallowed (as alleged by a member) as long as the subject context is discussed correctly in this forum which will eventually educate the newer members. Uncontrolled/lawless SST discussions will just led to what have recently transpire in this section.

I'm very very very disappointed in some of the members here as some of the reckless discussions are originating/continuing from senior members who are active in this section. Did not bother to instil the correct SST education for the public but instead consciously choose to become part of the problem.

Members are to strongly report posts / members (anywhere in this section and not limited to Citibank's) who partake in this incorrect SST discussion and I will do the rest. TQ

I'm not mod, but we've been repeatedly reminded not to use the word 'waive' as it's very misleading. The banks can't waive the charge as it's charged by government, what they can do is offer you a promo cashback/rebate with some T&C which is equal in value.

I've seen some mods say that these promo cashback shouldn't even use the word 'SST', but since banks themselves sometimes call it that (SST retention promo or something)....
*
The word 'waive' is incorrect as the tax cannot be waived and definitely will be collected by the gov of Malaysia. The only place where I 'allow' the word waive is in the PBB section where the bank dare to put in writing (redemption catalogue) that the SST is waived. I believe it is a matter of time before LHDN realise this and will send a note to PBB - until that happens, it is the only place where the word is allowed.

Banks need to exercise discreet when offering these cashback/rebate as by right they are not allowed to do so by LHDN. Ask a bank representative to speak to the media officially and nobody will say that they give out SST rebates. A reference case has occurred years ago (where LHDN/BNM reprimanded the bank for this offence and the rebate disappears) but I guess the folks representing banks are newbies, fresh grads which don't remember this at all. I'd advice members to be smart and discuss this in restraint and moderation if you want to continue enjoying this.

Malaysians love free things but the tendency to go overboard is extremely high especially when chasing the cashback/rebate to the SST. There are members who posts in every topic and even attempted to open a dedicated thread asking for this rebate. Some members go to the extent of advising to threaten the bank with card cancellation to get the rebate - ARE we a thug/uneducated scum or something like that to resort to lowly tactics, begging for that RM25 ? Yet we go about purchasing that overseas destination flight ticket, a new mobile phone or some big ticket item.

These discussions did not go unnoticed and I struggle to allow this unrestrained free speech to continue. I would like to think us all as a educated, cultured bunch of folks and I would like to keep it that way. The same reason profanities of any sort are not allowed anywhere in this section.

For now it is business as usual and likely to remain that way for months. Just continue to use your Citi card as usual.
Decide what to do only when we are certain what will happen to our Citi card.
