i just changed my mobo...its now P4GPL-X...with 915PL chipset.
temp at norm is around 40'C and goes up to 45"C.
is this normal ar? i have a fan aimed to the haetsink also...without it the temp goes around 48"C and the Heatsink itself (i got Thermal diode fixed on it) has temp upto 50"C....

my previous mobo with SIS chipset only like 32 (room temperature)...

the funny thing is my 3.2E has lower temp sometime (37 - 42'C)...but its watercooled larr...

Are you talking about your chipset temperature?

I've had a board that uses Intel 915 chipset, but the temp never rises to 40++'C before...

The maximum temperature that i got from using that board is only 38degrees, and that's when i've overclocked my Pentium 4 530 to 4GHz...

Chipset temperature will rise autimatically when u oc'ed u're processor as you are forcing the FSB to run higher than stock speed... sweat.gif

Did you oc'ed u're processor?

Anyway, that 38degrees i got is using the stock chipset heatsink with no fan on top of it... thumbup.gif

was playin Ghost Recon jst now..than my Asus Prob went *bling bling*...had to raise the minimum to 45'C (it was previously 43)

could it be anychance cause this mobo has S-478 and PCI-E??

Then, maybe it's time for you to change the chipset heatsink liao...

Use a 3rd party chipset heatsink...

But stay away from Coolermaster Blue Ice 2... mad.gif

Find any other chipset heatsink... thumbup.gif

Or, in other way, you can just buy a 40MM fan and find a way to fit it on top of the Chipset heatsink, that will decrease you're chipset heatsink a lot... wink.gif

Yeah, pull out the heatsink, remove the "bubblegum" on the base of the chipset heatsink, then clean the core of the chipset with arctic cleaner, then apply a new layer of thermal paste between the core and the chipset, this will surely help reducing the temperatue... wink.gif

yeah....i've done that alraedy...it dropped temps by 5'C... guess its cause this Mobo is s-478 with PCI-e..haha...

dont think will be installin chipset cooler netime soon...cause just finish fixing everything...took long time to make it look good...
and even decorate the 40mm fan with highlighter so reacts with uv...
and to those who wanna do that...i found that Pink and Yello react best.... blue not so good... whistling.gif

It is thermal pad, but it looks and feel more like a bubblegum... laugh.gif
Except that i didn't chew it la... tongue.gif

That thermal pad is no good in handling heat...

Everytime i've got a new motherboard, i'll remove the thermal pad and replace it with AS5...

It sure works better than the bubble gum... cool.gif

If can use screw, guna la screw...

If cannot, then use the cable tie liao...

But make sure u use the black cable tie, don't use the white one liao or you'll make you're rig look ugly through the sidewindow... laugh.gif

I believe if using cable tie will look nicer than using double sided tape...

Furthermore, if using double sided tape, one day, the sticky part will come off...

And when it does, you don't want to imagine what's going to happen... sweat.gif

Alahai, buy one 40MM fan, then some cable tie, that won't cost you alot liao...

If you want, i can give you a CoolerMaster 400MM fan for free, now, the only thing that u have to do is to buy some cable ties to lock the fan on top of you're northbridge heatsink... rclxms.gif
