Hello everyone,

Can someone kindly provide me with a review for the Preve 1.6 MT Exec? I have read a review from AF but it didn't touch much on the NVH, and daily use performance for the IAFM MT version.

Sidenote and Questions:
1) I don't drive fast. Max speed is 110 or 120 when overtaking.
2) Test drove the Iriz, didn't like it, heard rattling in 3 test cars. Any bad rattling issues with the Preve?
3) Test drove the Preve Turbo and it was awesome.
4) Can anyone highlight problems that I might face or common problems with the MT IAFM variant?
5) My parents drive a MT 2008 Persona, so I'm quite used to the power of the Persona. Is it similar to that? Or is it worse since the Preve is heavier? Is there any test drive unit. So far Senawang SC and CoE don't have it.
6) Planning to book before 15th Oct for the 30 year promo. I'm offered estimated 8k disc (5k + 2.1k for old iswara + 900 for 55% NCD) and the 7 year warranty
7) What is the service interval for the IAFM?
8) Lastly, any good SA's around here? Dua kali go proton x kena layan, such bad service. So ended up doing my own research T.T

Thanks a bunch and sorry for all the questions =)

1) Tested yesterday (Result might different from different person), iriz 1.3 having the same pickup speed as preve 1.6 MT (Heavy preve!, unless im bad in shifting compared to that Iriz driver). But overall for normal leisure drive = superb  thumbup.gif
2) Driver seat rattling sound  laugh.gif
3) -
4) As for mine, refer (2) and power window control slightly poke-out(seems normal for preve driver)
5) Please refer (1)... As far as i know, proton within selangor area doesn't provide MT test drive unit.
6) There might* be old model discount during December/January (which would be around 8k, but still it depends on stock availability). Can your insurance bring forward to your new car? Else 1.6k (if i not mistaken) would be your 1st sum for insurance.
7) 1k,10k,20k. personally i went for 5k interval.
8) (i shall leave this to sifus around here)

Dude! Thanks so much for replying! thumbup.gif notworthy.gif

Just done my booking. Fire Red 1.6MT. RHB is giving me 2.88% interest. Is that good enough? I hope my loan passes sweat.gif

One other question. When I tested the Premium, I noticed that the interior light has dimmer and when you unlock the car the led lights turn on. Is this the same with Exec. Looks so cool.

Thanks!

Damn it Proton! I went there yesterday and asked around for a manual preve iafm for the oval circuit ride. Guess what! Everyone I asked said all cars there were automatics! Settled with a ride in the CVT Exec Preve mad.gif mad.gif

Sidenote: My loan has been approved for my preve. Next is just NCD Withdrawal and Plate reservation. How long does this usually take till I get my car from this point on? It's a MT Exec btw. Thank smile.gif

aww...what a loss bro. should've wait for Preve FL coming up after another Exora FL. the powertrain staff told me the preve design were inspired by the pickup concept, it will be using EPS, and will be mated with Jatco torque converter cvt.

As you know from around, Proton EPS on Iriz is the one people currently giving high praises about. wink.gif
*
Meh. Not too big of a deal tbh! I much rather take a car that has matured over 4 years such as the preve rather than the newer Iriz. Look at the ridiculous amount of problems it has. That's the key with Proton, wait 1 year+ after new model and then only buy! Early adopters are mostly guinea pigs. nod.gif

Oh and speaking of the EPS, drove the Iriz for 3 hours straight on B-roads. Nothing to shout about, the steering. Lighter than preve, but feeling wise, it's roughly the same with the Preve. I don't drive hard at all, normally 70-80 kmh only, so maybe I just don't know the feel of a good steering and handling and my previous car is a myvi. Everything's better than a myvi! laugh.gif laugh.gif

if you waited for Preve FL, the car would've matured a bit more brows.gif
current preve owner has issues with the oil cooler wor rolleyes.gif

with EPS u don't need to bother power steering maintenance. u are correct, proton deliberately make their EPS feels like normal hydraulic power steering. that's what people were talking about. they love the feel of hydraulic PS on proton's EPS. other automakers EPS felt disconnected to the road
*
Does the Exec have oil cooler too? Or is it only for the turbo?

Guys, my SA said currently for Exec MT, Fire Red isn't available. Picked Elegant Brown, he said it's fresh from the production line. Chassis No: 66xxx.

Truth or Bull****? Thanks!

Edit: Checked the production date and it was 02.09.2015. Can't wait for the car. Thanks guys thumbup.gif

My SA said this Saturday I should be able to take it! Btw, I am just scared about 1 thing; Preve ada rattling or not? Scared reading story about Iriz, but seems nothing too bad in this forum about Preve.

Also, can anyone tell me RPM for 100 & 110 kmh for Preve MT! Thanks! notworthy.gif

Decided to give a review for my Preve 1.6MT since it's so hard to come by:

Current mileage: 1600 km (first service done)

Problems (so far):
1) Side mirror terlampau kedalam / senget : SC fixed for me
2) Front hood sensor will beep sometimes - next service

Pros:
1) It's freaking huge, got it for 50k. Worth every cent
2) The ride is a bit firm, but not uncomfortable. Good enough for passenger to fall asleep and driver to enjoy driving
3) RPM:100 km/h (2,500 rpm); 110 km/h (2,800 rpm) ; 120 km/h (3,000 rpm) - approximately
4) Very quiet and relaxing at 100 - 110, almost no engine or transmission noise, only some tyre roar
5) Seats are not soft, but not too hard, decent support
6) Power is very2 adequate for daily use, would not call it underpowered. Only a tiny bit difficult to move in 1st especially from standstill uphill.
7) Steering is just nicely weighted. Not too light, not too heavy
8) Meter cluster is very neat and readable. Better than the one on the Iriz.
9) A/C very cold sweat.gif

Cons:
1) Radio has some static/popping/crackling through bluetooth, FM sounds good
2) Some flexing in the seat back (You can hear popping noises sometimes, will get it rectified once it gets bad enough)
3) Sometimes the gear tak masuk, and it grinds. Rarely occurs, mostly on 1 or R
4) High beams are surprisingly low. Normal lights are fine though
5) Doors are rather hard to be closed, need some slamming even after adjustments. Maybe it'll get better once the seals wear-out a bit

Fuel Consumption (after 1000 km service):

RM 90 for 639 km (reserve indicator ON)
Average speed: 49 km/h (car info display)
Average FC: 6.5 l/100km (car info display)

Calculated FC : 6.87 l/100km or 14.6 km/l
Daily driving conditions: Mix of ~40 km highway (110-120) + ~60 km jalan lama (70-80) + ~30 km town (light jam)

Hi, anyone here own manual preve? I currently list some cars to buy. Preve manual is in my list. Is the gb performance good?got any issue?

Why manual? My mum own cvt preve and i dont like it but the handling is great. So i wanna seek some comment from owners who own manual gb preve. Hope someone can give me comment. Thx smile.gif
*
I have one, lemme give you some pros and cons:

Pros:
i) The GB is smooth and gear change is very slick (no/minimum rubbery feel)
ii) Power is more than enough for me, acceleration feels good, only gear 1 feels slightly heavy (heavy car)
iii) RPM at 110 km/h ~ 2700; 120 km/h ~ 3000
iv) The clutch feels good, bite is good, very hard to almost impossible mati enjin.
v) Fuel consumption is great considering it's a C-seg (Town~8-9 l/100km; Hway~5-6.5 l/100km)
(I went Seremban -> Cameron (Uphill + Jam + Jalan2) -> Penang Island in one full tank -- 7.8 l/100km average)
vi) It will easily maintain a high speed for highway crusing (>160 km/h)
vii) No CVT whine or any noises from the GB at all rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif

Cons:
i) Proton QC (Front doors have minor plastic rattle, seat bunyi, and some other random cheap plastic sounds)
ii) Already in SC 3 times for because sometimes the car susah nak start doh.gif
iii) Proton customer service rclxub.gif
iv) Radio reception a lil' bit fragile

Overall, still have my doubts since my car is just 4 months old and already 3 times in SC, but driving it feels good. I'm just glad that I didn't take the Iriz instead sweat.gif rclxub.gif whistling.gif

Thx for the comment. For cons no i & ii, is it only your car or a common problem for manual preve? And is the problem solved?
*
For the QC issue, I think it depends on your luck with Proton. My uncle's Iriz rattles like hell. Meanwhile, my rattles are barely audible (I have stupidly good hearing, everyone else says there are no rattles when tumpang my car). Oh the seat squeaky sound they settled for me though, now all good

For the susah start issue, I honestly don't know, it doesn't happen every time, maybe once a week, or even more, but when it happens, the just won't start for a minute or so, I normally will lepak for a while and try again, should work. Already sent to proton 3 times, better now

Today my ESC light suddenly came on during driving, normal road, 80 km/hr and baru one week plus after my 10k service. After off and on engine, light gone, sigh.

My car is 4 months old...Proton quality is really not the best

Hello, quick question.

My front passenger door has a minor annoying rattle. Proton can't seem to hear/fix it.

Anything that could be done about this? Could COSE be better?

Thanks!

how it appear? which situation it will appear? if really minor and happen once a while, just live with it.. LOL.. to fix it, SC will drive your car and testing.. u may fetch them and drive 1 round.. show them.. if not able to prove then sorry..
*
Sometimes, the sound is very loud. Sort of like something loose inside the door panel. Appears at smooth or bad roads.
Some other time, sound is reduced and only appears with very rough roads or bumps.
And some other other time, there's no sound at all!

Pening! Left the car with SC for a whole week to replace dashboard last month and they told me the front doors were re-fitted. It was fine for 3000 km, and it started again. Maybe need to leave it at SC again.

Other than the occasional rattle and jerking, the car is great rclxms.gif

The grinding sound already appear in the morning when I want to reverse out from my house. That is when the car is stationary, no?
*
MT Exec user here. It happens a lot when the GB is still new. It will drastically reduce over time. Same thing happened to my parents Persona MT when it was new.

Next time, when engaging reverse, you could actually feel if the gear "masuk" or not. If it doesn't, you should put it to first and masuk R balik. Then you'll feel the gear properly engaging. There should be a notched feeling, like mechanicals engaging. Then it should not grind

How is the power for 1.6IAFM+ MT in a preve?
Planing to purchase second hand preve mt.
I heard many owner kena cluth pump issue too. do u face it as well?
*
It's decent, but I'm sure City/Vios is even more powerful. So far just 20,000 km, no clutch pump issue yet. There's a 7 year warranty (i think) with my car so I'm not really worried about possible issues.

I honestly think the FC is not bad at all.

Highways normally I do speed quite significantly. I'm pretty mixed when it comes to town driving, alternating between heavy/light footed

Best so far is 6.1 l/100km during Melaka to Alor Star drive. Heavy rain, so drove very reasonably the whole way.

Mine is 1.6MT btw. Currently at 20k ODO

QUOTE(gonzalo20 @ Jul 3 2017, 12:04 AM)
hi, is it okay if i buy manual transmission preve?
*
Yup, had one for 1 year+ (about 35k kms)
FC is good, my average is 8 lit/100 kms
Best FC so far is 6.1 lit/100 kms (about 90% highway at 100-110 km/h)

Oh my normal average FC includes daily drive in town with slow traffic, minimal jams, and weekend highway drive at speeds of 140-170 km/h...so it could be better actually if you're better at controlling your right foot

The car is also very quiet, no CVT droning. Only slight wind noise from the rear left door (replaced the power window rubber assembly but problem is still there, no problem from other doors)

Rattling for me was minimal too, but there's one rattling from the meter on hot days with bad roads. Day to day driving is good

But my car had a problem where sometimes the engine just doesn't wanna start. It takes anywhere between 2-5 tries to start it.

Had brake judder and their replaced my discs FOC

For service, don't get conned like me, proton normally says only full synthetic can service 10k, but I can assure you that's nonsense. In the service booklet also says 10W-30 Syntium 800 for 10k kms.

For a period of time, there was ESC warning light (maybe one week), tire pressure was okay, and the suddenly one day the problem just went away on its own.

The clutch operation is also very good. The clutch is decently light (not too light) and not tiring. I once got stuck in a 12 hour jam during raya, but my legs were still okay.

The gear at first will be tighter, and grinds when you select first or reverse. Sometimes, it just wouldn't select reverse, but this is normal, after a few weeks it will get much better. Now no more grinding or gear tak masuk.

It's also very easy to crawl in jams, the engine won't judder or stall if you let go clutch without pressing throttle.

Something to get used to is the clutch/throttle feel. The throttle is drive-by-wire and it's tuned to be "heavier" or eco. So just press more if you want the power. And mine gear 1 no power, but gear 2 suddenly a lot of power. It's weird but you'll get used to it

The car will go up Genting/Cameron with ease, Karak you could do Gear 3-4 depending on your speed, Gear 5 is too heavy and your engine will be lugging.

RPM
100 - 2.5k
110 - 2.7k
120 - 2.9k
170 - 4.2k

If you don't mind driving a manual, and an older car like preve, then go for it. Protons manual is really good as far I know.

Parents have a first generation 2008 Proton Persona manual. Still haven't changed clutch/pressure plate assembly until today. The pressure plate is more likely to be very badly worn, since the clutch pedal is stupidly heavy, but it still works!
