It's been a long time since I'm last active here.. Anyone here still face problem of CVT heat up issue when cruising at high speed? I kena twice alrd this week on highway. Drive high speed halfway the CVT light lights up, then the transmission went dead. Have to stop at emergency lane to restart the engine. Just 170km/h leh.. Engine can tahan but CVT can't?

QUOTE(SportyHandling @ Aug 12 2015, 09:05 AM) By the way, after the engine went dead, presuming your car was still on the highway when the car had shut down, you can still turn the steering wheel and manouvre the car to the emergency lane? The engine did not went dead. The temperature indicator did not rise either. Suddenly the CVT light just on. It's like the gear automatically shifts into neutral. RPM drops drastically, when u step on the accelerator pedal, it will struggle to rev and will not accelerate. Tried shifting into neutral and back to D also cannot. The only way is to stop the car and restart the engine. So assuming u r on 170km/h, u will have all the momentum to coast to safety before it reaches 0km/h.. Still dangerous though. and I thought the stability of the car and the turbo engine make the car great at high speed....

QUOTE(SportyHandling @ Aug 12 2015, 05:15 PM) Noted. So the car will not respond to pedal action and there will not be any acceleration when you step on the pedal. Still dangerous but at least you can still steer the car to the emergency lane to restart the car, then it is not too bad. Have you brought the car to the service centre to have it checked yet? Is your car the low spec Preve or the high-spec Preve Turbo? Mine is the high spec CFE. Entering year 3 now.. Yup the car doesn't respond to pedal when the CVT light on.. I haven get it checked yet.. Will ask service centre next.. Just wondering if later batch of Prevé got this problem..

QUOTE(mengsuan @ Aug 12 2015, 11:57 AM) Some people seem to have this issue of cooling. I never held mine at high speed for too long, maximum also 190km/h for 1-2KM stretch, so I never got this overheating. Should you try to ensure that your radiator and transmission cooler are all clean and not blocked by road debris? Lol. This problem is common among CVT cars, not just Preve, especially if you're using Mitsubishi Lancer. The same goes for Inspira, but Proton has already improved the Inspira's CVT cooling system. Yea.. Should ask service centre to help me check during next service. It just happened twice this week, suddenly no confidence to run the car at high speed..

QUOTE(SportyHandling @ Aug 12 2015, 06:40 PM) Apart from high-speed cruising, do you often or usually do hard acceleration ie. stepping hard on the accelerator with high RPMS up to 4000, or the RPMs are kept at around 3000 or lower during acceleration? Oh much lower. Around 2000+ RPM only normally. Does this have a long term effect on the CVT?

QUOTE(idunnolol @ Aug 13 2015, 07:03 PM) ya my car did the same noise High pitch metal grinding sound Oh wow.. My car has that sound when reversing too.. I thought it was normal? And I do have an aeroplane sound when accelerating? It will be gone with higher speed though.. Is this normal? Also it tends to rev higher after cruising at high speed.. Say u r at 170 and approaching a tol, u get slow down and get into smart tag lane, after getting pass the barrier, u step on the pedal LIGHTLY, the jerk will have a bad jerk and rev more than usual with that throttle input.. I have never driven another CVT other than a Vellfire. Vellfire's CVT has no such things though.. Looks like it's time to get it checked at a service centre..
