Its about time a game finally requires SM3.0 for minimum requirements. Remember the big hoohaa when ppl couldn't play Sands of Time?

That being said, they should've made it clear that you needed a card that supports SM3.0 instead of giving some cryptic error message. This isn't the first time either (If you played the SCPT demo on a GF4MX, the first level will play just fine, but crash the moment you try the second level)

Finally, I can truly say that my card is obsolete tongue.gif

From what I heard, SCDA for the PC is actually a port of the X360 version, hence the steep requirements. Methinks RE4 will be doing the same, so it'll probably be a GCN or PS2 port... *crosses fingers in hopes that its the former*

Marketing bullcrap? God, were you part of the "OMG, my GeForce 4 MX can't play XXX game, I demand someone's head!"

Stop exagerating my question and answer me with proper & constructive reply. You elaboration has nothing to do with my questions. You are not helping!

I was just asking whether this is the marketing strategy to boost the sales of their products.

If I wanted to set someone on fire just because I didn't get what I want, I would say this," OMG, my Radeon X800XT can't play XXX game, I want to shove the molotov cocktail bottle up your ass and pour RON97 petrol all over and watch the fireworks!

Now back to the topic. As I found out, this game it ported out from XBOX360 & it fully utilized the SM3.0. So those who bought Radeon X1600 ++ or GeForce 6800 ++ are bunch of lucky fellas. Its gonna take a while for me to chalk up some cash to get a new one.

IIRC, this is a Ubisoft Shanghai production. That's never been a good sign, with regards to story. I loathed Pandora Tomorrow's story.

There, you answered your question right there (Which I pointed out in my earlier post)

In any case, why is it such a big surprise that this is happening? SM3.0 cards have been around for over 2 years... Its about time.

Sure, its bad for older users, but remember this: Developers use precious development time to scale their games down so that older systems can run it. Stuff like making 5 different models for the same character (with varying polycounts), different texture maps for different detail levels, etc.

RangerKarl: I have to agree with you on PT (I don't get why this game got glowing reviews while SCCT didn't) but apparently DA's story is top notch according to most reviews.

Then again, PT's story was considered good, so meh.

Possible solution??

QUOTE
Sorry if this has already been posted and debunked i just did a quick search on the forums. Anyways as with all splinter cell games i usually try to tweak the ini file to get the best visual quality i can but it seems with Double Agent im trying to get the best performance Smile. Well looking through the ini file (C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Double Agent\SCDA-Offline\System\SplinterCell4.ini) i found a line near the top called SimpleShader the default value is set to false so i just quickly turned it to true. I noticed a increase in performance but you do disable some nice eye candy like the reflections on the ice in the first mission (but i can live with that). So i was hoping that someone on the community with a 2.0b shader card can give this fix a little shot and see what comes out of it. Also to anyone who has a widescreen monitor you can manually change the res in the ini as well just do a search for (FullscreenViewportX, FullscreenViewporty) and change it to desired resolution. well hope that helps some of you out.

nah... doesn't work for me... doh.gif

Should Ubisoft release SM2.0 patch?

I don't know how you all are thinking, but in order to play some latest PC games first must have a decent PC setup with rm2+++ atleast that can only last for 1 year. Then next year when another new game comes out, then current PC setup cannot keep up with it. SO for me I will better spend rm800 for a PS2,v atleast can last me for 2~3 years.
