Hi VW bros here,

Was looking around used cars that are around rm70k and not too old, and found Ford Focus which i kinda like, but was being told that Ford cars hard to get spare part even the official SCs also take time to get spare part.

Then came across that 2011-2012 Golf 1.4TSI are just selling for around 55-60k, which is a big WOW to me.

Question is, yes I do like Golf very much especially the GTi version, and I know there's DSG problem for 1.4TSI model am I right? But due to the tempting price of the used Golf 1.4, I would like to ask..

1. Actually what is the DSG issue about? Gearbox fail? Or just normal tear n wear that happen more frequent than normal gearbox?

2. Is this 1.4 TSi with DSG reliable? If not, does it breakdown till cant be drive frequently?

3. Roughly how much is the maintenance cost after warranty period? Eg. clutch pack, or even gearbox fail etc...

4. Lastly, is it worth to buy a used 2011/12 Golf 1.4TSI?

And i know if talking about reliability jap cars will be the best, but 70k cant get any decent jap cars that is not too old, plus i love the driving dynamic of the conti cars.. U can call me as backside itchy laa but i do reali get bored wif my souless Toyota, LOL.

As long as the car doesnt breakdown too often, or even requires to be towed always, a little bit unrealible is fine for me.

I would personally stay away from most 2010-2011 1.4 Mk6s, unless you know the seller well.

Bro, mind to tell the reason?

I think you can get mk5 gti around 70k if im not wrong. I would advise you to stay away from 1.4TSI like other forumer said. The 2.0TSI + 6DSG is much more reliable  smile.gif

Ic.. Seems like the 1.4 tsi is kinda fragile..

Golfs (and apparently a whole bunch of 1.4 TSIs) from 2010-11 are pretty notorious for their motor blowing up (okay I'm exaggerating) and transmission replacements due to the DSG issues at that time. Most units at 2nd hand dealers just .. sit there and get their warranties void from negligence of service intervals. Iirc 1.4 with CAVE codes are the infamous ones..

If possible I'd reccomend getting a 2015 Jetta with the current promo. If you count the interest rate for used - new car I think it'll be pretty much the same or close, anyway.

A dealer offered me 60k for a '09 mk5 GTI. Friend's price so I can't disclose where though, heh.

Wow thanks for your detailed explaination bro! This is what i need, haha thumbup.gif

So 2010-2011 units are most probably gt smth wrong with the engine and transmission? Is CAVE the engine code?
How about 2012 units? Are they having the same problem too?

2015 Jetta is abit over budget for me, although I'm also considering it.. Anyway just asking, I thought they are using the same engine and transmission as the Mk6 Golfs?

Wowww 60k for a 09' GTi?! If i get such offer i might sapu it LOL. What i see from the classified ads 09' mk5 GTis are selling around 70k++, some even asking for 78k man..

Is it the door come out wif a sound like the lock mechanism is repeating the lock action? Seems like my friend's mk5 GTi has this problem too during stop and go traffic. I was wondering whats wrong with the car when i first heard this sound.

In a Toyota you wont be able to pull out the key even if you engaged the gear to Neutral.

Again, why would you turn the ignition off when the gear is still in Drive position? It's not a good habit if not mistaken..

My car was bought from them 1 month old. They said will send the car to vw for inspection before give it to me. Even the service consultant are on their side and bluff me it was checked before. End up I need to go service myself and the air cond water drainage also blocked and need to enter workshop. Carpet all wet lmao.
Somemore the car you are viewing is the lousiest spec that I have ever seen and been sitting in their garage for quite sometime and nobody want it. You are better of getting second hand mk7 which cost around 92k but still under warranty
