he is not promoting his sales, but he is a big fan of ultra-120 tongue.gif
To choose among scythe, i'll choose the infinity paired with a good fan. Reason? Hmm, read more +ve review for infinity than the ninja.

You can actually get the comparison here

http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=getarticl...100&articID=503

Thermalright is the best when the fan is at 100% speed while ninja's best at lower airflow.

So, i guess both of then are almost on par.

If u ask me, then i'll choose Thermalright Ultra 120...

Why?

First, thermalright has been known as a producer of the best heatsink in the market...

second, you can always choose what kind of fan that u want to use on thermalright heatsink, why? Because none of thermalright heatsink comes with fan... tongue.gif

That's the downside of thermalright heatsink, but on the brightside, you'll get to choose the fan that you like... thumbup.gif

It's not that hard...

U can always find it in the "Bulk Section"

Ask RLHH...

But beware, Thermalright Ultra 120 is out of stock worldwide... tongue.gif

Why don't u try Scythe Infinity?

Scythe Infinity and Thermalright Ultra 120 performance are just the same...

But with Ultra 120, u can always choose either to use Silent Fan, Bling Bling Fan or Superfast Fan... thumbup.gif

Choose wisely... wink.gif

It doesn't impress me well as my previous Ultra 120 & XP120...

Infact, my XP120 can cool down my Pentium D 930 much much better than my previous Scythe Ninja... [Using the same Vantec 120MM UVLed Fan]

Nonsense, a 120mm fan spinning @ 800rpm produces much less than 25dBA and with the right heatsink, will sufficiently cool any current CPU, bar maybe the ridiculous Prescotts.

For thermalright XP120, you can always choose the fan to you're liking...
Like me, i choose to use Vantec Spectrum 120MM UVLed fan for each heatsink when i'm testing both of em... icon_rolleyes.gif

For scythe Ninja, it comes with an original fan, it's a silent fan...

And the most weird thing is, all other 3rd party heatsink loses to AMD Stock Heatsink for it's performance, ignoring the noise contributed by the AMD Stock Heatsink.

Anyone have a picture of the Heatpiped AMD Stock Heatsink? blink.gif

the problem is i can't run fanless with stock heatsink. smile.gif

in my case, the scythe ninja is more helpful than XP120. i have both though, one thing i don't like about the XP120 is that it takes up a HUGE footprint.

using it on my mATX board was a nightmare.

the ninja has similar footprint, but i find it easier to mount. the difficult part is that it's damn big. heck i'm running it fanless cos i can't fit any fan on it. LOL. in fact i had to ask ianho to help me make changes to my side panel.

so yeah, before you buy any heatsink - do make sure there's enough clearance to put it.

well, if they're heavy they might bend your board to a certain extent.

scythe ninja and XP120 sure isn't heavy, minimal copper components. unlike the SLK800 / 900 / 947 and various others.

Scythe Ninja IS heavy , but the weight is mostly on the base so not really a problem tongue.gif not sure about XP120 and those SLK are really heavy sweat.gif . Sometimes , its really worrying when I open my case and saw the big Ninja mounted sideway like that, feels like gonna kill my mobo anytime lol

sweat.gif you're right. actually SLKs are lighter (even on specs)

but strangely i found the Ninja to be pretty light. i guess it being big in dimension, it actually feels light when i hold it. LOL.

the problem is i can't run fanless with stock heatsink. smile.gif

in my case, the scythe ninja is more helpful than XP120. i have both though, one thing i don't like about the XP120 is that it takes up a HUGE footprint.

using it on my mATX board was a nightmare.

the ninja has similar footprint, but i find it easier to mount. the difficult part is that it's damn big. heck i'm running it fanless cos i can't fit any fan on it. LOL. in fact i had to ask ianho to help me make changes to my side panel.

so yeah, before you buy any heatsink - do make sure there's enough clearance to put it.
*
That's one different experience than what i've got from both my Ninja and my XP120...

My XP120 seems to be much stronger than the previous Scythe Ninja i've used before...

Tested both heatsink on the same platform, the same fan...
And the XP120 wins 3 degress compared to Scythe Ninja... icon_rolleyes.gif

i've emailed scythe about this.. and this is their reply :

Dear Mr. are_keem,

Greetings from Scythe USA, Inc. Hope this message finds you well, and
thank you for your inquiry regarding the Scythe Ninja CPU Cooler.

As for the use of the socket clips, unfortunately, you cannot use the
clips from Ninja Revision B to the older Ninja CPU Cooler due to the
difference in the mounting mechanism. We have tried to make it similar
or compatible, yet due to the new AM2 socket and LGA775 push-pin
design, we had to go for the harder way (to make a different mounting clips).

The difference is quite difficult to explain, but perhaps you can see
the images below to see the difference:

Revision B

Original

Do you plan to use the older Ninja onto LGA775 or AMD 940 socket
mounting? If so, you can use the included socket mounting clips. If
you have lost them, I can arrange it from our support warehouse, for
US$5.50 (shipment fee only). If you would like to obtain the clips,
please, let me know.

Best regards,

Hiro Komi

but some members here told me that we can use thermalright custom AM2 retention clip (or bracket, i'm forgot already) to enable older ninja to be mounted on AM2 socket..

Is there anyway to mount the old ninja scythe plus to AM2 mobo? I saw the scythe web say about the UNIVERSAL RETENTION KIT "SCURK1" . Can it be used ? http://www.scythe-usa.com/product/acc/004/scurk1_detail.html

yeah, AM2 brackets from thermalright might be used with older ninja.. another email from scythe :

Greetings from Scythe USA, Inc. Hope this message finds you well, and
thank you for your response.

As for the original Ninja CPU Cooler, unfortunately it is not
compatible
to AM2 socket, and the clip included in the Revision B of Ninja CPU
Cooler cannot be used for the original Ninja CPU Cooler.

You could possibly obtain the below adapter from Thermalright company,
and it may allow you to install the original Ninja CPU Cooler onto AM2
socket, but as this bracket from Thermalright is not our own item, I
would not be able to guarantee the fitting.

<Item>
http://www.thermalright.com/a_page/main_pr...s.htm#acc_am2_a
Customized AM2 RM (Rev.B)For AMD AM2 motherboards
OR
Customized AM2 RM (Rev.C)For AMD AM2 motherboards

Please let me know if you have any questions or need more information,
and thank you again for your interest in the Scythe item.

Best regards,

Hiro Komi

If you're using passive, IIRC The ninja still trashes the Infinity.

Hence why i chose the ninja over the infinity for my new rig.
