Apple Introduces The Best iPod touch Yet
Featuring New Colors, A8 Chip, 8 Megapixel iSight Camera & Apple Music

CUPERTINO, California — July 15, 2015 — Apple® today introduced the best iPod touch® yet and unveiled a new lineup of colors for all iPod® models, including space gray, silver, gold, pink and blue. The ultra-portable iPod touch features a new 8 megapixel iSight® camera for beautiful photos, an improved FaceTime® HD camera for even better selfies, the Apple-designed A8 chip with 10 times faster graphics performance for a more immersive gaming experience, and even better fitness tracking with the M8 motion coprocessor. With the newly launched Apple Music™ service, members can enjoy playlists curated by the most talented music experts from around the world, stay in-the-know on music culture with a global 24/7 broadcast on Beats 1℠ radio, and comment on or like backstage photos and videos shared directly by their favorite artists on Connect.

"iPod touch gives customers around the world access to Apple Music, the App Store and iOS, the world’s most advanced mobile operating system, starting at just $199,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of iPhone, iPod and iOS Product Marketing. “With big advancements like the A8 chip and the 8 megapixel iSight camera, customers can experience next-level gameplay, take even more beautiful photos and enjoy their favorite music, TV shows and movies.”

With the A8 chip, the same used in the revolutionary iPhone® 6, users can play even more immersive games for hours at a time, all the while with great battery life. iPod touch has become one of the world’s most loved mobile gaming experiences — its 4-inch Retina® display and rich collection of gaming titles are further enhanced with incredible graphics performance and thousands of Metal-optimized games. With the advanced iSight and FaceTime HD cameras, iPod touch owners, for the first time, can have fun with popular features including slo-mo and burst mode, while capturing memories and everyday moments with gorgeous photos and videos. Three times faster Wi-Fi lets customers stay in touch with friends and family through FaceTime calls, and download movies and TV shows with ease.

The App Store℠ on iPod touch, available in 155 countries, gives users access to 1.5 million apps across 24 categories. iPod touch is also the perfect way to carry your music collection in your pocket. iTunes® boasts the world’s largest music catalog, and with Apple Music, customers have access to the revolutionary streaming music service, Beats 1, Apple’s first ever live radio station, and Connect, where artists can communicate directly to fans. Apple Music is available on iPod touch through the Music app — users are invited to a 3-month trial, after which a $9.99/month membership fee will apply. There is a family plan providing service for up to six family members available for just $14.99/month.

iPod touch comes with iOS 8 and a collection of powerful built-in apps. Send unlimited voice and video text messages through iMessage® over Wi-Fi, quickly make edits to your photos with the Photos app and keep track of your fitness and wellness with the Health app. With Family Sharing, up to six family members can share purchases from iTunes, iBooks® and the App Store, along with photos and calendars. Parents can also create Apple IDs for children which includes Ask to Buy where parental permission is required for all purchases.

Pricing & Availability
The new iPod touch starts at $199 (US) for the 16GB model, $249 (US) for 32GB and $299 (US) for 64GB, and the entire iPod family in its five new colors is available starting today through the Apple Online Store (www.apple.com), Apple’s retail stores and select Apple Authorized Resellers. For the first time, iPod touch is available in a 128GB model for $399 (US) through Apple Retail Stores and the Apple Online Store, along with the (PRODUCT)RED lineup. iPod touch requires a Wi-Fi connection or a Mac® or PC; USB 2.0 port; Mac OS® X v10.7.5 or later; Windows 7, Windows 8 or later; and iTunes 12.2 or later. An Apple ID is required for some iPod touch features.

Apple revolutionized personal technology with the introduction of the Macintosh in 1984. Today, Apple leads the world in innovation with iPhone, iPad, the Mac and Apple Watch. Apple’s three software platforms — iOS, OS X and watchOS — provide seamless experiences across all Apple devices and empower people with breakthrough services including the App Store, Apple Music, Apple Pay and iCloud. Never owned an ipod b4 but I like that they keep the old dimensions and so on, which make the backward compatibility with old accessories not an issue.

Also, it will technically be more powerful than Ip6 as it only need to drive the sub-HD resolution of 5(s).

I have a 5th gen iPod Touch with the A5 chip, and iOS 8 really causes it to lag unbearably, but thankfully I only use it for music at the gym or as a companion in hotel rooms when I'm traveling for work. I think many were expecting Apple to kill off the iPod line due to years of sales decline, which is why this particular product update is somewhat of a surprise.

A5 is meant for ip4s, so pushing them on the resolution of 5(s) is a little too over.

Also, Apple's new iOS tend to be sluggish on old device. Last time when I move from iOS 6 to 7 on my ip5, the device become seriously laggy, and pretty much unusable on ip4s of my friend. Luckily from iOS 7 to 8 on ip5s is another story, no noticeable performance hit.

People said that in upcoming iOS, apple will address the performance issue of legacy products, and from the beta version of it so far, they say it does comply with what being said.

Yup, I'm also eagerly waiting for iOS 9 (the official one, I'm too chicken sh*t to try the beta) to see if it fixes my iPod lag issues, otherwise need to find ways to convince my wife that I need an upgrade, ha ha ha...

Hey guys, When is the new ipod Touch available in stores such as Harvey Norman, Machines etc. and other small gadget stores in Malaysia? Or would it be quicker if i ordered it online via the website with 4-5 week delivery time? Which would be cheaper? Thanks in advance biggrin.gif

Looking at it, my best guess would be anywhere between 8-12 weeks before the new iPods are available retail. Definitely faster if you order online. In terms of price, it'll definitely be the same, although places like Harvey Norman allow you to offset the price using credit card points or pay through installment plans if you prefer to.

Just ordered a space grey ipod touch with custom engraving, due in 4-5 weeks biggrin.gif rclxms.gif

How is the sound card/chip in the Ipod Touch? What brand/name is it?

How does the sound/music quality of the ipod touch compare to other mp3 players, android devices and is there any difference from the iPhone?

How is the standard equalizer of the Ipod Touch in terms of bass, customizability and interface? Or are there any other equalizers in the app store that is better?

Is the iPod one of the best due to sound quality and other aspects in terms of a mp3 player and not because of brand name?

Need some serious answers, thanks smile.gif

I think sound is also dependant on what earphones you use. As for the equalizer interface, I'm afraid it's not as customizable as some Android device.

Is there anywhere in KL that has stock of the 128GB version? I regretted not buying it when I was in Melbourne last few weeks, now local stores only stocks the crappy 32GB and 64GB models. I'm ready to offload the function of HiRed audio streaming via Tidal to this iPod Touch unit, not to mention needed the biggest capacity available to store all the 24/192 and DSD files for playback on Onkyo HF player app.

It's the exact same dimensions with the iPod Touch 5, bro, which means whatever accessories you find for the 5th gen iPod Touch can be used for the 6th.

Yes, I know what you mean... I'm currently using the old silicon case on a new iPod Touch... it's not that pretty, hahaha.. Strange thing is that I don't see any casings for this new gen of iPod Touch in retail stores yet. Could be most third party accessories manufacturers are not keen on the iPod Touch due to lower sales compared to iPhones...

If I can recall is few hours with Facebook, web surfing and YouTube. I think can last less than 4 hours continuous use. If you are only using it for Spotify or Apple Music should last quite a long time since iOS standby battery life is quite good.

As a music player (which is what it essentially is), the battery life is pretty good. Once you start surfing the web, social media and playing games, then it becomes like an iPhone 5 or worse...

But definitely no point spending 780 for an iPod to use it for a camera... Better get a used Lumix LX3 or something... Ha ha ha...

RM780 can't buy a mirror-less. sweat.gif

The Samsung NX series can be found around that range or get a 2nd hand in GS. Way better money spent than the iPod for the camera.

For me it is worse.
I would recommend getting a mirrorless camera instead. There is no flash on the ipod touch.  biggrin.gif

If I can recall is few hours with Facebook, web surfing and YouTube. I think can last less than 4 hours continuous use. If you are only using it for Spotify or Apple Music should last quite a long time since iOS standby battery life is quite good.

I'm planning to buy an iPod touch for my son. No urgency, as it was just for a reward for him (and to get him off my iPhone for playing games). Is it worth to buy it now or wait? Any sound rumors on new version of iPod?

If you look at the guide above you can see the iPod is way overdue for a refresh, but am not certain if Apple may just kill off the line entirely as sales have been poor to say the least.
I'd recommend you hunt for a good used one since it's just for your kid.

I prefer to buy a new one instead of used one, as I had bad experiences before when I purchased second hand phones. Looks like it is better to wait.

Agreed with you that it is better to wait. No urgency. No worries, his time with the gadget will strictly be monitored and timed. Btw, he already has a bicycle smile.gif
