Just bought the Phantom 3 Advanced from DJI. I have no prior flying experience with quadcopter. Anything that I should look out for. Regarding the SIRIM thing that you all talked about, do we really need to apply for the permit? Last check, permit was not required a few month ago when I imported Ninebot balance scooter from China.

QUOTE(kayFX @ Mar 27 2016, 02:15 PM) If you bought it this year once touch Malaysian soil and custom office you need to apply for sirim.. Depends on courier you might subject to GST as well.. I thought VAT and import tax are already include in the selling price, no? I know that anything above RM500 will be subject to GST, however, if the seller promised to handle this for us, we are not suppose to pay anything. Like my previous purchase of Ninebot scooter, the seller handle everything for me. I just wait to receive the goods with no interference with custom or shipper. Also, the SIRIM cert. How to apply for it? This is something new to me. I do import a lot of gadget from Amazon and eBay but this is new to me.

QUOTE(kayFX @ Mar 28 2016, 09:34 AM) GST i think already done by the shipper.. this is a few page back by one of user who buy from DJI hope this help.. i think you need to call sirim or visit their website.. Thanks for the info. By the way, can we get the shipper to settle the SIRIM for me or I have to do it myself? I would rather pay a bit more for them to settle it for me.

QUOTE(tubik @ Mar 28 2016, 03:15 PM) U might lose signal, which triggers return to home. That is, if you set it to rth instead of hover before takeoff. Thanks. This post has been edited by chtan: Mar 28 2016, 04:13 PM

Update: My unit already arrived in Penang custom and ready for clearance. However, they are asking for AP permit + SIRIM:shock: . Funny that we need an AP to import 1 quadcopter. Anyway, I have contacted AnsarComp to apply the permit on my behalf. I will just paid for their services.

QUOTE(RedBishop @ Mar 29 2016, 01:06 PM) Hi everyone, I'm a beginner looking to purchase my first drone. anyone here have any idea which DJI should i purchase? or any other brands that i should try out? Same here, first time flyer here. If you don't mind to fork out some extra cash, get the Phantom3 Advanced just like me. I was initially wanted to get the professional version. However, since I am a novice flyer, I don't want to risk destroying the pricier Professional than the Advanced. Planned to get the professional once I have familiarized and mastered with the control.

Update on my experience importing this bird. GST and custom fees was taken care off by the shipper. However, I have required to get the AP permit and SIRIM sticker on my own. I resort to AnsarComp to help me to obtain the permit and SIRIM. They are very fast and effective however very costly as well, RM259 in total compare to RM106 if I apply thru. SIRIM myself. So, for anyone wanted to import this bird recommend to do it yourself. You can save RM100++ by doing so. Anyway, received my bird this morning. Now looking thru. all the tutorial and pre flight checklist. A bit nervous after looking thru. DJI forum as there are a few cases of Phatom flew away and crash or mid air loosing power. Also, it seems like strong wind will also easily cause the bird to crash. All pros here, have any advises for a newbie like me?

Flew my maiden flight this morning during Cheng Ming. It is quite easy, I flew 2 times and landed twice without any problem at all. Captured a few photo and the quality is quite good, video wise also not bad. However, when the drone was too far off, it is very difficult to get your orientation. I am using my 5.7" LG V10 phone to connect to my drone, it can be a bit too small to view especially directly under sun light.
