regarding leveraged etf. The below example shows that it won't be sync after few days.
say a 3x oil etf priced $100 on day 0, when oil = $10.
day 1, oil up 5%, oil=$10.50. This 3x etf up 15% to 115.
day 2, oil down 5% to $10.50*.95=$9.975, this 3x etf down 15%, which is 115*0.85 = 97.75
day 3, oil down 8% to 9.975*0.92=9.177, the etf now 97.75*0.76 = 74.29
day 4, oil up 9%, 9.177*1.09=10. Yes, oil back to original 10. However, the etf now up 27% that goes 74.29*1.27 = 94.35. Yes, the 3x etf still loss around 6% from its original.
imagine a few more rounds of movements, the etf may loss much more even though the oil recovers to its original price.
