It seems that you might have a corrupted "HOSTS" file in your windows, please check that file (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts) --> open with notepad, the file must have all entries marked with "#" sign at start of each lines.

Example :-

The rest of the file should be empty, if there's an entry you will need to verify whether the entry is correct or not. A restart required after changes.

BTW, I'm assuming this is a personal computer & not corporate asset, some companies will have this file modified to suits their needs & if you modified the file you might end up some services no longer available to you.

Microsoft no longer provide a direct download from their website, here's a direct link from Internet Archive, it's a 64bit Windows 7

Try ping to 8.8.8.8 from the Command Prompt window.

More likely that your host file was corrupted.

Try reset winsock with following command under Command Prompt window (Must run as Administrator).
CODE
netsh winsock reset

If you have antivirus or security software installed, disable them or uninstall them. Sometime it could be due to antivirus/security software (3rd party firewall) corrupted files. I have experience with it before. After uninstall, it work perfectly fine then I install it back again. Usually it was corrupted due to update or malware.
