i booked my Perhentian trip about a week after MIDE, mid-June. nowadays with diving so popular, no such thing as walk-in to Perhentian and look for rooms.

My medical issue? i had eye surgery - Retinal tear, two surgeries for one blasted eye problem. So guys - do get your eyes checked. it's one of those things that happens at all the wrong times, like just before i'm scheduled to go Weh

New toy arrived today - Xiaomi Yi camera with waterproof case and monopod.
No LCD at back, sadly. Can't wait to play with it

land videos look good so far - relative to my price-to-expectation ratio.
i would say, i have xiaomi phone, their photo quality is good.

i did Perhentian Police wrecks for night dive. quite nice, schools of fish, shrimp, crab, puffer, garoupa. Good viz, i think that dive group didnt kick up much sand (i did )
no current, no waves, it was pretty good night dive

i used Windows Movie Maker, easiest and free from Microsoft. not sure if it can do filters, saturation adjust, etc, but i used the anti-shake n wobble tool

Videos pretty good. No red filter available now. Operates hot so well fog up. Will try putting in the absorbent pack or panty liner next time I use it and see if it's OK.

If not I'll use it for land shots.

Video is better than photo.

Battery life, about one hour

Housing is the one provided in package, Kingmax brand

There is no LCD screen at back.

Buy Go pro! But I think sj5000 for the screen

yea its small airport. you start chatting with others in the taxi queue.

last i was there i took taxi from KB to airport alone, quite nice, chit-chat with driver and pit-stop to buy keropok lekor

i usually use regular luggage bag. no questions asked. But i think local airlines like Malindo or Firefly could be getting stricter. They made one of our LYN diver kaki open his bags, isnt it.

Perhentian sites better than Redang, agreed.

Tioman is best IMO for east coast. laid-back, with duty-free chocs and booze hehe

ferry's a biatch though, running on its own schedule. unless things improved in the past year.

i used to really love Dive Training magazine, got it cheap from Bookxcess Amcorp Mall. sadly they've stopped stocking it. worth subscribing - nice pics, great articles.

Port Dickson is not so bad. less than hour's drive away. And you can go diving on weekends.

i go diving alone sometimes. meet new people is nice. it's so easy cos everyone's into the same sport.

later on you will complain about TOO MANY dive buddies and TOO MANY dive trips to go for! (a lot of us caught in that cycle already, right)
