well well well.... I think you and I share the same problem....I got a minor problem with my mac pro, which somehow evolves into a major problem of which Machines themselves can't rectify... AppleCare decided to grant me a new unit, but have to courier the faulty unit to Apple first, an exchange policy...
Now Apple couldn't get hold of the faulty machine, just because Machines say they have an event. Same response regardless if I contact them straight away, or via AppleCare...
My works are piling up, and I won't get to see any sight of my new machine for at least another 2 more weeks.... but I'm keeping my fingers cross...
