Sir Alex Ferguson: I don't miss the transfer market

Sir Alex Ferguson has reiterated his enjoyment at watching Manchester United from the stands since he retired - and admits he's also happy to be a spectator in the summer transfer market.

The former manager regularly attends matches at Old Trafford and is delighted to maintain his connection with the club that way. But when asked by MUTV if he was glad to no longer be involved in the sometimes complex process of signing players, he replied: “Absolutely! I don’t have to worry about that any more.

"But you never lose your interest in Manchester United, there’s always going to be that attraction. I keep an eye on things and see how things are going. I think that it’s one of those clubs where no matter how long you work there, you can never lose that affection for it. I’ve still got that great affection and love watching United."

Sir Alex was speaking to MUTV at the Manchester United Foundation's annual golf day, in which he joined numerous past and present Reds stars in helping to raise over £20,000 for charity. He added: "The Foundation has done great work over the years, and continues to do so. It's very important. It was great to see a lot of my former players at the golf day."

Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick were among the current squad members joining Louis van Gaal and assistant manager Ryan Giggs on a short break from pre-season training, while the legends on the fairway included Denis Irwin and Bryan Robson.

When asked before the event what we could expect from him as a golfer, Sir Alex said: “Complete agony! If I get five points for my team I’ll be happy.”

United to hold press conference on Friday

Manchester United will hold a press conference this afternoon (Friday) to unveil new signing Memphis Depay.

Louis van Gaal and his fellow Dutchman, who was recruited from PSV Eindhoven last month, will address the media for the first time since the squad returned to pre-season training.

The next scheduled press conference will then take place when the Reds are on Tour 2015, presented by Aon; the squad will fly to the United States on Monday to compete in the International Champions Cup.
