because by countersigning the 'a/c payee only' on the top of cheque means you allow the bank to proceed payment regardless of the person cashing in the cheque in the intended person or not...
that is the reason why cash cheques are extremly discouraged...

personally i use bank transfer only, dunno much and dun bother use cheque book tho
