I had been thinking alot on why some of us, DS user buy original games while there are free roms to be downloaded on da internet

As for my reason, i dun really have a strong one...
probably
1) The artbox?
2) I wanna support ORIGINAL!
3) ... I dunno?

For people who had been telling me that im stupid coz
1) got free roms to download
2) wad is the difference between roms and original? they are same and playable
3) roms can go wifi too

when ever people ask me why buy original games.... i cant seems to reply em back the good things about original ds game. Can some of the original game buyer, stat their reason here? So i could feel a lot better. biggrin.gif

Well, truthfully I do not have any original game. Shame on me, i know
But currently i have 2 reason i dont buy original games. There is none that are worth it for me ( I am not a mario fan)
And i dont want to waste money

But although this is so, I will be getting the FF series. Why? Not because of I want to support original. But because i find that the FF series is worth the money spent. I find that the game it self need to be fully enjoyed and admired with their boxart, the catridge and the instruction booklet.
The sense of satisfaction of getting a good item.

True, i will be eating grass for the next few month from the result of that but, i can live with that. Cos its worth it.

Dude, you buy original because you want to. Not because of other people's opinions. Going by that, of course ALL of us who buy originals are considered "stupid".

No one should control your sense of self-worth. For example, if your friend said eating at KFC was stupid when you can eat pasar malam fried chicken for RM 1.20, are you really stupid? If you feel that the KFC is worth it to YOU, you shouldn't need justification from other people, or threads like this.

But since you asked, I'll bite:

1) I can afford it.
2) Even if the ROMS are free, I'll have to flash my DS, buy flashcarts etc etc, which COST money too.
3) Even if I download all the ROMS, I can only play ONE game at a time, unless you have 2 DSes and FOUR arms.
4)ROMS don't have resale value.

Ultimately, value lies in the eyes of the beholder. Would you ask us forumers if you should marry your girlfriend? Even when you KNOW you want to spend the rest of your life with her?

(Beh, this is LYN. People do)

for me, all my DS games are originals. now before somebody comes in and post " you are sure rich lah", i dont own many DS games, less than 10 tittles. I only buy what i want to play smile.gif smile.gif

The reason that you must suport original games is to support the games developer. Games developer will continue making sequel if there's a demand. Case in point : Square. The company was at the brink of bankruptcy and as last ditch attempt, they produced a game call : Final Fantasy.

The game become a hit and millions of people bought originals... thus creating income for Square and enable them to produce sequel of the game. Wonder what will happen if everybody loves the game but only playing the game using illegal roms?

EDIT : add some words that fogot to add tongue.gif tongue.gif

okok my turn... tongue.gif

1. i am in the art industry where Intellectual Property is an important thing to me. ok. i am into photography and i don't fancy seeing my photographs being stolen by someone and use it in their lala cloths store in times square. therefore, i respect copyrights. and therefore, i buy originals.

it's not only applying to games, i do the same to musics and movies too.

because i understand how one will feel when one's uncountable sleepless night hardwork is being stolen by someone else. it's just me. flame whatever you like

one word to say.... originals are better and more reliable and you get those manuals so you know wats it all about... if you get roms... sometimes it wont work.... you have to find a way to know wats the game all about...

I wont be buying ori... why?? due to the fact... the word affordability is not on my side... yes i can get my ds... but to get games which comes out frequently i will not be able to sustain such spending... the other thing is that, Malaysia is not like other country eg. australia where there is a shop of games where you can borrow, trade in and stuff like tat.... so that makes it different for me cos once you buy it.. it becomes somethign you need to keep... and if you are not the kind tat collects then why you buy it for... it will keep dust... resell it?? you jus have to find ppl to resell it... and if no one buys it.. you are stuck wit it... for shops different.. no matter wat you still can trade in for a new game....

my view ler... so its not a general perception...

i buy them for simple reasons onli... i wanna collect those games that i really like.....

i play *ahem* roms and PC and PS2 games n really "test" them...if i like tat game, i will do watever it takes to get tat ori game... tongue.gif ....although i think i onli have original 9NDS games/5PC/more than 20PS2 games......

its more of a satisfaction thing for me to own games which i like n enjoy...

You pretty much said all my reasons for buying original. If there are lessons from playing pirated games on my PC, it's that they mess up my computer and that the games don't function well.

I don't want the same thing to happen my NDS.

Evo has summed up my reasons to support ori.

"HELLO MADDEN.. HELLO FINAL FANTASY.."

Piracy kills off games. Ever wonder why BlackIsle(Fallout 2, Planescape: Torment) died eventho' much praise and cult following it has? That's cause not enough people are giving money(buying ori). It's not a matter of what the developers get, but what the publishers(EA/Ubi) get.. If they see that this game is not making money for them.. Why fund them for their next sequel? Shut them down, even better.

What we're playing now, is re-hashed genres.. A million FPS games now, and another million more to go. Devs/Pubs are not taking risks anymore into making new IP's(intellectual properties) because doing so, will take time, and money, for an unproven, idealistic, new game.

So all in all: You love <insert game here>.. You want to see <insert game here sequel> right? Well, you gotta show them your support. No support? They think you don't care. So are you a lanun or a supporter? tongue.gif

hmm, since u ask this, i think i would say:

the problem that has plagued those pirated games are their batteries die quickly. when i play gba, i still recall every time i switch on my gba, i will be afaid if the save files are corrupted and this has been killing.

secondly, i find that price of nds original games are quite affordable and cheaper than gba original games b4.

plus, i like original games, but most of my original games are used. well, since they are still original games, so it makes no difference whether it is new or used. i am still supporting original. i always hunt for good deal

lastly, i am a collector of original games and i am currently trying to collect as many gb, gbc and gba original games as i could at incredibly low price. that is also why i havent bought original nds games in a while

other reason leh, other forumers have mentioned it like the valuable manual and box, so no need to repeat again.

Some pirated computer games carry viruses along with the "crack" files that you need to apply in order to play the game so if you are not careful, it does mess up the computer.

And what fate of NDS are you talking about?

Stealing is bad. Game developers need to eat too.

If they did a good job, they need to know and get rewarded. How? From game sales. If they did a horrible job, they need to know too.

Its a business and it needs to be sustainable.

hehe... my turn now...

Video games have been the key factor to the journey of my life... coz of this passion it has almost became my carrier, but iam not a game developer though...
I used to fancy owning what i can't afford back then. Now it has become an orgasmic pleasure of owning these original games, music, computer software, and other stuffs too. tongue.gif

Oh! It's my turn now... rclxms.gif

I once have a whopping of 8 DS games and 3 GBA games, eventhough I'm still a student (at that time). Asking money from parents? Hell no!! All my game systems (GBP, GBA, DS, DSLite) are bought from my hard earned money from part-time jobs (and winnings from academic competitions). Getting these items with hard work gives alot of satisfaction for me because I trully earned them instead of stealing them.

As a results of my "Ori game addiction" I don't own a console and rediculed by friends for being "stupid", eventhough they're studying Game Design in college...(they're killing themself biggrin.gif )

But I have to admit, I use GBA emulator on my PC. But it's solely for testing games before I commit myself to buy its original. I'll first finish the downloaded game. If I feel like playing it again, I'll delete the game from my PC and do my best to hunt it down. If I don't feel like playing it again or don't want to continue it midway into the game, I'll delete it as well and forget about it.

If you trully want official support from Nintendo and other publisher, you should do your part and support them in return.
