i'm curious about the other 50%
*
50% necessities.
No.. not that Gucci handbag, nor those neon alligator shoes..
NECESSITIES.. those are "Feel good" or "Savings for Specific Spending" coz it cost a bomb tongue.gif

The game is to reduce that 50% for NECESSITIES, thus reaching Financial Freedom faster rclxms.gif
and increase the rest, especially Investments & Feel Good - must balance mar,
else become crazed over building investments only.

Note
1. personally, charity i lumped in "Feel Good", not "Necessities" (unlike for some) coz i do feel good when i help out.
2. easier version = spend 70%, save 30% (15% buffer, 15 investments)
but.. i'm anal, need to be very specific in order to focus laugh.gif

What is napalms? What is dagnabit?

Your language comes from Middle Earth?  rclxub.gif
*
er.. way more "advanced" than middle earth tolkienish leh

Napalm is flammable liquid used in warfare. It is a mixture of a gelling agent and petroleum or a similar fuel. It was initially used as an incendiary device against buildings and later primarily as an anti-personnel weapon, as it sticks to skin and causes severe burns when on fire.

Think severe ammo tongue.gif

dagnabit.. er.. general audience mar, cannot curse in properly, use
Alternative spelling of dagnabbit
A slang contraction; a bowdlerization of profane "God d*mn it."

For those with some technical knowledge may it this steady your nerves. For those without, just read it with an open mind.

My China exposure has moved to -1.24 z score. This means that there will be more than 68% chance that it will bounce back to the mean.

What this means? Top up lar!

QUOTE(xuzen @ Jul 10 2015, 01:37 PM)
It is has gone above -1 SD liao... reversion to mean is highly likely.

Think of the mean or average as an imaginary elastic line. When you pull it too either side, it will want to go back to its original shape. The further you pull it from its resting line (aka the mean value) the more it wants to go back to the mean.

So in financial modelling, we use Standard Deviation as a marker from how far it has moved from the mean. Right now, the China fund has breached -1 SD and based on statistical modelling, it wants to revert to the mean (in technical term this is called regression to the mean). In financial modelling stats; -1 SD... it has a probability of 66.67% to move towards the mean. If it has gone to -2 SD.. then the probability becomes 95.00%. At - 3 SD... the probability becomes 99.99%. -3SD is the max liao. There is no -3.01 SD or whatever.

However do note that in Black Swan Event all calculations are off as are all the modelling will be null and void.

Yar though keep in mind it went +2 to 3 SD up since er.. a year+/- back
thus this -1D(a bit more) is no biggie gua tongue.gif
ie the stretching of the rubber band UP, snapped back down a bit only comparatively (to its crazy up stretch)
thus, still havent reverted to mean yet (the fall)
thus, probability of it snapping back up after a fall of -1SD(++) is not as per norm
thus, ie dont all in / sai lang yet but may be peck a bit a bit

Just being the devil's advocate here to see 2 sides of the coin yar notworthy.gif

Gold status not enough, need platinum for 1.25% SC.
*
Personally, i think the Platinum thinggy is useless.
I mean, if i have 750K to invest at "one place", U'd think i'd be better informed and have ways to do ETFs right?
ETFs with lower upfront cost and yearly costs.

IF FSM wants to encourage people to really go for Platinum,
do lar 0.5% or even 1% entry cost / service charge (average now 2%)
AND 0.88% yearly costs (average now being 1.75%+/-)
That's a simple half of the current average costs.

Until then, i'm still plonking mostly into ETFs these days,
just shuffling around my holdings in FSM & perhaps EPF investments since can't do direct stocks liao since May/June.

Just a thought notworthy.gif

Market down ... everyone quiet as a mouse.

When market up... suddenly an influx of posting asking what fund to go in!

Now, market down is the best time to enter and strategize! I.e., like playing chess, now is the best time to place your chess piece, don't only move when you are being checked.
