QUOTE(Xcaliber @ Jul 27 2007, 11:25 PM) Dear N40 sifus , I think if you do plan to get the Nikon D40 I would suggest that you should stick with the D40 and not the D40x as the extra money you save get allow you get buy more accessories. I'm looking for DSLR . migrating from Fuji 2800z.. Kinda interested in N40 . Few questions ; 1. What do I need for my first DSLR in term of accessories ? 2. Where the reliable place to get this ? 3. what are differences between N40 and N40x ? Thanks. 1) Lens cleaning kit - RM 30 50 2) UV filter for all of your lenses to protect it (quite cheap) 3) Manfrotto Tripod 4) External flashgun (SB 400, SB 600 or SB 800) - RM 450, RM 850, RM 1350 5) Additional lenses (a good all rounder would be the 18-200mm AF-S VR lens) - RM2600 All prices are approximate prices. |

QUOTE(AlamakLor @ Jul 29 2007, 10:29 PM) Take your time, no need to hurry at all, research kau kau before pulling the trigger. You dun wanna research half way, then buy something, and when you continue your research later only to find that "aiyah! cannot do this, cannot do that" I think when I bought my D40 it wasn't poison but more of lack of knowledge. Then after playing and tweaking and using it quite heavily, can really see the benefits of a better body. But at the same time, I believe that if you can't even master the basics, why bother with something so advanced right? but if you really wanna get the d40, i think buying used is a good idea, then just get an sb600 (rm600+/-) and you can already get most of the benefits of an slr. People who sell their d40 are most likely those whom I mentioned as above (didn't do enough research), or kena poison |

QUOTE(AlamakLor @ Jul 30 2007, 10:32 AM) That'd depends on how quickly you learn LOL I like your analogy. Have you seen the review of when Michael Shumacher was promoting a Fiat (Fiat owns Ferrari)? He drove the 100bhp car like a madman!!! Btw, has anyone tried updating their Nikon D40 firmware from 1.0 to 1.1? This post has been edited by Mavik: Jul 30 2007, 10:41 AM |

QUOTE(zio @ Aug 13 2007, 12:45 PM) Am thinking of switching my kit lens and the 55-200mm for a 18-200mm lens. Yeah the 18-200mm lens is quite good and versatile. I am also using the kit lens/55-200mm combo. I got a couple of friends who bought the 18-200mm lens for their D40 and they said that is all they need. The VR combination together with the wide range is quite good especially if you travel a lot and plan to carry light. Sigh, its much more convinient after trying to walk around taking shots with two lenses and changing in between. Time to do some homework! So far prices I got is about RM2.6k for the 18-200mm lens |

QUOTE(travis_ckf @ Aug 13 2007, 03:28 PM) zio: He already has the kit + 55-200mm lens. That is why he is asking on our opinions about the 18-200mm lens. I can relate to him about lens swapping, quite difficult in certain situations. If u only want only single lens all the time, definery its advisble to go for the 18-200VR. Although expensive, that perhaps one of the best value lens and the quality is still great too. Unles budget permits, then 55-200 is fine, provided if u dont mind swapping lens. Kit lens 18-55 + 55-200 VR is a good combination though. |

IMHO, the 100 ISO helps a lot and the extra Megapixels may not be that extremely important. Still I would prefer to consider other options like Canon.
Also in regards to the SB-400, why not save up and get the SB-600 instead? You get more flexibility with the flash. |
