Hi guys...

I'm going to send my car for 40K service next week. Saga FLX Std Manual.
This are my check list what to change.

1) Semi Synthetic Engine oil + filter
2) Spark plug
3) Air Filter
4) Brake Fluid
5) Power Steering Fluid
6) Engine Coolant
7) Aircond Compressor Oil

How much do you think it will cost me if i send it to SC? Or should i send to any workshop? Is it cheaper if i send it to regular workshop?

Regarding brake pad.. it make squeaking sound each time i'm braking. Should i change it also?

Thanks.

2) why? petrol doesn't have lead any more so I'd be reluctant.
3) is it dirty? after a year mine's still as clean as new, I'd be inspecting before shelling out money.
4) probably
5) sounds fair
6) definitely
7) sounds very suspicious but also seems to be a Malaysian thing. If they hear of it in Australia they'll add another layer of profiteering alongside the almost compulsory steering alignments (toe only) and brake rotor machining, both are a waste.
You have probably already damaged your brake rotors so new pads will almost certainly be needed, only pads if you're lucky, if not then grab new rotors as well rather than waste money on machining the old ones, although that said your labour charges are fairly reasonable so it's a real option, over here machining costs about the same as new rotors.

Sounds about right.
As to how long they last, how long's a length of string? My Dad's old trayback was still on the original brake pads/shoes at 330,000 km when he sold it, but city folk may be lucky to get 10% of that distance, and a race car maybe only 500 km.
Inspection at fairly frequent intervals is a good idea, also for our rears it's nice to give them a clean while inspecting.

anyone know how to change the lighting in the air cond switch?

I played with Daisy today and the A/C switch lamp is a surface mounted LED so it's a fiddly job that requires the skill and eyesight of the young, something I no longer have.
However I sadly also saw that the background lamps for the controls were archaic filament types of a T5 variety, so I put LEDs in their place.
Gaining access is a real pain but after the simple of of loosening the heater panel I removed the knobs but pulling them straight out (a bit of leverage with a non-scratching tool is useful) and them unclipping the facia which has four clips on the top and two below, that gains access to the lamps without having to go to the effort of removing the cables. The T5 sockets with twist out for removal from the rear but it seemed easier to just leave the sockets in place and pull the lamps from the front.

I'm always happy to help where I can.
Now if someone knows about key remote programming for the Saga I'd be happy to know about it, I've had no luck with instructions for other Proton models that I've seen online.

I initially was talking about programming the remote that un/locks the doors.
When eventually I grab a new immobiliser chip that'll become a fresh head scratcher for me. Really I'd love to have a simpler system but our laws forbid it now.
BTW after over a year of ownership I finally found out how to disable the traction control feature, just push the button on the dash for about 5 seconds, but I guess most posters here don't have that feature, and disabling it is of about zero use, on the other hand in its default on setting it can be very useful if you're in a place where bogging is possible.

I had the same issue a year ago, I believe you're meant to buy a Toyota Vios which in Australia is a Yaris, a more expensive competitor to our Saga (S16) that doesn't offer as many niceties.

i did fiddle with the console a few weeks back planning to do the same, till i got to the front fascia part it wont pry open, scared ill broke off the clips. ending up repairing the cigarette lighter cover (which broke off when i first got my car 2 years ago)

means that now you've changed the knob-lights to LED T5s? any pictures?
*
Yes I put in T5 LEDs from my box of bits but all were a bit different and I might revisit the job and do it better later, at least the glow is a cool white now rather than the filament look. The bad is that it doesn't evenly light the background as yet, my fault for just using old stuff I already had.
I may or may not post a photo sometime, it isn't the simplest job as I'd need to use a tripod in the dark.

i see, how high is the t5 you're using? tall or short one? safer to use a short one? this could be my weekend project  biggrin.gif
*
Yes I think short would be good, also a healthy light sideways too would help I think.
I chose white but it could be a lot of fun trying other colours.

Haha many somemore feel the sound irritating

Purposely find the seat belt thingy to stop the noise
*
I'm inclined to think wearing the seat belt is a pretty good way of avoiding the annoying noise, that way you can avoid the AU$353 fine we have here for failure to wear, a possible side benefit is a better chance of surviving incidents but that may or not be important.

maybe just try to reset the alarm? iinm is unlock car, enter inside, press the alarm module button in the middle (dont letgo), start car only letgo.
or not maybe 1 of the doors or hood or boot punya switch already got problem, can just open and check, maybe spray some lubricant lightly to each switch, then tekan the knob a few times.
hope it works  smile.gif

Yes I concur, the door switches on my FLX are a flawed design, I modified mine to improve the reliability of their contacts.

really? may i know how did you modify it?
*
I soldered a copper strip onto the brass bit to extend it a bit and make the contact reliable.
In hindsight it would be simpler to just bend the brass bit a bit bit it'd make sense to unscrew it and place it in a vice before giving it a tap, that would eliminate the risk of cracking the plastic if you left it in place.

Proton told me the TCU is short circuit. They told me the price is about 2480 for TCU.
They blame me for changing the battery while my car engine was switch off. Battery changing need to be done while car engine is running to avoid ecu or tcu form being damage... Do you believe that?
*
That's about the worst advice I've ever seen. What will cause massive damage is to connect a battery in reverse but even then most equipment will have simple diodes to protect against that issue, the damage from that often gets confined to the fuse and alternator.
Something simple to try is just turn on your lights and disconnect the battery, then go away relax have a beer or coffee and slowly wander back turn off the lights and reconnect the battery, and hope things have magically cured themselves. The lights are to make sure any stray volts are drained from the car.

Edit: whoops shouldn't have said beer, it may be culturally a no-no. Sorry.

Saved by Broton GaGa FL

Today, was driving to Seremban branch for work in the morning. As usual, drive out happily in my VIOS trying to achieve better FC, enjoy the ever so strange stock Blaupunkt player on Hitz FM. After sent daughter to school, then go to McD borrow toilet bowl and had a blast. Came back out and continue my journey.

To my horror, at ELITE  near to Dengkil/Banting area, a Plotong GaGa grey color came very near and gave me butt shout, honk me for quite few times, get to my side and point finger at my rear wheel. I was like, horrykrap this is it. Pipu try to rob my VIOS!!! Luckily my VIOS got eletronic side mirror adjust, I fiddle with the switches and found out indeed my rear tyre is losing pressure fast.

I had no choice but to stop the car by the roadside. As I start to taking out stuff from the trunk, getting ready to change spare tayar, the Broton GaGa from far reverse all the way back. I was thinking again, horrykrap those bugger is kambing back trying to offer a helping hand and ugut me for marnee. Luckily wallet oni got less then RM30, if wanna rob me also not much can he get! No doubt, the brader is a middleaged Malay unker trying to offer help. I told him I'm fine with tayar changing, also I got my towing service from insurance, will have absolutely no plobrem. The unker insisted to be my company incase anything happen to me, since nowadays criminals everywhere. My heart still 15/20 worrying if the unker himself is a criminal... damn worry wei sad.gif

To my horror, after I removed everything from the trunk, found my spare tayar also no air doh.gif Fuark!!! Looks like no choice gotta call for insurance tow truck liao. The unker already setat opening my tayar, I told him fine lar. I can arrange it myself, wanna give him 10 bucks and ask him off. He die die open finish my flat tayar, then gib me see his askar IC ask me snap a foto and send to bini/kawan, said I can trust him. He inspek the tayar awhile figured there's a small nail, should be able to refill air and continue journey. Put both spare and flat tayar into his car, took me together to R&R Dengkil to fill up air. Then reverse all the way back 5km to my kar sweat.gif

So I putted back the tayar, before left. Unker slot the RM10 back to my pocket and say mau saling menolong. Sungguh terharu to the max. cry.gif Unker said, nanti lain kali kalau jumpa lagi boley minum minum sembang sembang. He's on his way back to TUDM Port Dickson. Didn't leave me number also, macamana lah mau belanja teh tarik when I go PD next time? sweat.gif This is really first time in my life having so much of shock in 1 day(in a good way), saved by fellow BROton owner.
*
Good tale, it restores faith in mankind. For me though I think it most unlikely I'd ever gain any pleasure from a radio station called Hitz FM.

I've never used mine either yet, sometime I must find a CD just to test it but I'm in no hurry to do it, the MP3 input satisfies all my pre-recorded needs.
