My car was 2007 model idsi.
Entirely serviced at Honda Malaysia.
And i am not those people who play with the gear one
I read an article saying that the city/jazz cvt doesnt have a torque converter unlike the ones found in Nissan and toyota. It seems they have changed the design and put in a torque converter into the cvt now.

Anyway, honda idsi was a super fuel efficient and practical car. Such a pity the cvt was not reliable.

Damn, mine is the 2007 VTEC facelift version. I also service entirely in Honda. What's your car mileage? So far my car has no jerking problem yet, touch wood. I use the 7 speed manual mode occasionally when I want to "play"

You are lucky then.
I had a few friends who owned that generation of jazz and city. More than half of them had CVT issues.
Mileage was 106 k when my problem started.
I wasnt planning to sell the car if not for this problem.
I like the flexible rear seats so much and double decker glovebox.

I had the same problem with my wife's Honda City IDSI year 2005. Went to the local mechanics and he confirmed it was spark plug coil's faulty but IDSI has 8 of them and he can't check which one fails, the cost is RM160 each, total cost will be RM2K plus, the local mechanics didn't want to change for me fearing if the new spark plug coil is faulty, he can't bear the cost and give me warranty on it. He suggested me to go back to Honda SC.

I was lazy and bear with the jerking for about 6 months, and finally during this year CNY, went to HZN Honda Service Centre in Glenmarrie, left the car there and the free shuttle service sent me to Empire Subang in the morning instead of me waiting there. In the afternoon, the free shuttle service came and pick me back up and I waited in the SC for a while more, and finally they have found out that the spark plugs that I have replaced last time is Denso brand and Honda is using NGK (if I remember correctly, or could be the other way round). Anyway, they went ahead and change all spark plugs and the cost was about RM130+ and come with a free car wash, and free unlimited milo and nescafe.

IT solved the problem, till now there is no more jerking.

Honda SC said they follow the procedure, change the spark plugs first, since it is not according to their specs, if that fail, they will change the next thing and so on.

My 2008 Vtec also facing the same problems. After changing the faulty plug coil with a used unit it was smooth and and it happen again after 2 months. As you mention seems like the culprit is the Denso spark plug.

my jazz also facing the same problem..changed a few plugs with secondhand unit but the problem comes back after few months. Did you manage to fix the problem by changing the spark plug back to NGK?

After changing the plugs to NGK at Honda Service Center, the car runs fine for about 6-8 months before the jerk comes back.

No choice, I replaced all 8 spark plug coil, recond ones at RM120 a piece = Total RM960 (8 pieces due to IDSI).

It has been 1 year plus from now, fingers crossed, car still run smoothly.

Hope this helps.

Hi, Honda IDSI model means you will have 8 spark plugs, 4 more than normal in-line 4 engine. That's why this car save fuel. So now there is issue, you have to fork out back the money that you saved....lol.

Spark plugs is the one firing electricity, spark plug coil is the head (contains wire) that supply electricity to spark plugs.

Spark plugs are cheap, but the coil is expensive. Some more 8 numbers of them. sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif

Bro, I live in Kota Kemuning, so I got the recond spark plug coil (or is it call ignition coil? Red tip one) from the one of the car workshop that I frequent here. I guess most of the car workshop should be able to source for it, the issue will only be the price. You can try asking spare part shop and see if they can help you source for it. Hope this helps.

Any of u here, pls consider following group at fb..
Honda city 03-08 idsi vtec.. only 6k member..
There is a lot of part u can get for otai² there.. secondhand coil plug for only rm25 per piece..
1 important thing. If milage is more than 200k.. u must change the rocker cover gasket.. the getah one.. if not.. the engine oil will leak into the coil plug make it hot.. eventually will break the coil..
There is a lot of thing u guys need to service.. including carbon built up in the intake manifold..
U can follow ar man autoservice at ampang.. to check up ur car.. since they are good at checking any honda car..

End up still got jerking issue. I guess have to change 1 whole set and see how..

My car is jerking as well after a few months. not sure it is the spark plug or plug coil

Having the same issues, mine is 40-80, when cruising with rpm below 2k.
I have done replacing drive shafts and gearbox(recon) still having problems.
I suspect i am having a really unlucky gearbox.
😂I just bear with it.
