Hi all, I got a question regarding income tax, sorry if this has been asked before.

Usually as an employee your salary is fixed, and by your payslip you know how much is being deducted for income tax every month. Say I go solo and start my own freelance business as a sole proprietor, but my monthly income is unstable. Example like: One month you earn 3k, and the next 1k. How do I calculate the income tax and do I have to pay monthly? Can it be paid yearly?

Thanks.

Once you submit your income statement for the first year of freelancing, LHDN will send you CP500 which will tell you how much to pay in installments. You just need to pay according to the schedule.

The installments for the following year will change according to your income from previous years.

I see. So that means no need to pay tax for the first year? Every year LHDN will send CP500?

Hi all,

Got a random question regarding,

"6.10.2 As the business operations are carried on outside Malaysia, the income is deemed not to be derived from Malaysia and thus not
subject to tax in Malaysia."

http://phl.hasil.gov.my/pdf/pdfam/GUIDELIN...IC_COMMERCE.pdf

If so, do we still need to fill in ezhasil every year as usual? Thanks in advance.

Mind sharing more info abt Yr business n how it derived the income and does it need you to do work that generate income in Malaysia?

Ex, if you hv a company in malaysia that do  services overseas with overseas customers,... They pay to Yr company.... Is that income derived from malaysia?

Very very sorry for the super late reply, actually I haven't started doing my business yet so I'm asking out of curiosity. About my profession, I'm a 3d artist looking to go freelance on sites like Fiverr or Upwork. From what I see, many of the clients on those sites are from other countries. If I do receive payment from such clients, is still considered income derived from Malaysia?

Hey guys, I have a few questions regarding income tax:

1) For starting a business (sole proprietor), do I need to register new tax file, or can I just use my existing one?

2) If I commence my business Jan 2022, do i need to file income tax for the business in June?

1) Sole Prop is considered same entity as tax payer.

2) 2023.

Great, thanks thumbup.gif

Edit: Oh ya, one more thing. I have recently quit my job last month and plan to buy a laptop sometime next month. Will I still be able to claim for income tax?

Hi all,

I left my job around October, and started a freelance business this month. What form should I use for income tax filing next year?

googled and found this ......

Q14: I received only employment income in the beginning of the year.
Subsequently, I started my own business in the middle of the year.
Which form do I need to fill up?
A14: You are required to fill Form B 2010 because you have business income.
The due date for submission is 30th June 2011. (just ignore the 2010/2011 year ....old posting)

as usual caveat emptor ...

Ah I see, thank you!

BE. For the Dec income, insert in the 'Other Income' column.

You thanks to two people and both given you two answers, one with B and one with Be... Who you gonna listen???

First at all, does your freelance business get registered under business SSM or just a freelancer without any registration of business and it is under your own name?
*
Hi thanks for chiming in. My business is registered under SSM.

For YA 2022, cont with BE since is only 1 month. Dont have to do accounts just for 1 month.

For YA 2023, file under B. Have a proper set of accounts for filing.

This one I know it.

He mentioned Freelancer... Who knows if he did register or not.

Freelancer - it is hard to define whether it is business income or other income on and off. May be his freelancer means, monthly got many sales transactions, or may be he suka suka do, tak suka tak do and end up just 1-3 transactions yearly. I don't think it is under business income on this substance and I would classify it as other income and to use form BE.

From Yr postings, if business income starts in Dec,... Can use form BE n put that income under "other income"....
What abt if business starts on Nov, or Oct, or Sept, etc,.. When is the cut off that should start using Form B... For the current fiscal year YA21?
looks like your posted reasoning can be applied to "every any month"  hmm.gif

Ok, so I went and emailed an enquiry from LHDN about this issue, they replied and advised me to fill in form B, for employment, commission, and freelance business income.
