Did you try the sweet corn? Holy sh*t. That was the best corn I ever had in my life.  Eat the raw sweet corn.

Dammit, didn't leh! The only corn I eat in Hokkaido is one snack 'potato corn butter' sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif

Wahhhhh I wanna go lavender fields the next trip also. If I remember correctly, season is July right? How did you guys travel around? Rented a car?

Yeah. Many major places in Hokkaido can get to by train and bus ... but the frequency is very low. So most people will recommend renting car to drive, or take tour.

Anyway our car rental costs ... around 1200km total driving from sapporo to otaru to sounkyo to asahikawa to jozankei to noboribetsu to hakodate.

▫ 8-day car rental ¥67,918
▫ One-way charge (for returning the car in Hakodate) ¥7,560
▫ 9-days Hokkaido Expressway Pass ¥8,700
▫ Petrol and Parking (estimated) ¥20,000

Car rental with English GPS?

I didn't specifically mention needing it when making the car booking (planned to use google maps on phone) but they gave me a car with English GPS.

Ended up use the Car GPS so much more convenient. Input location that time use map code (similar to post code) or phone number, no need to know Japanese at all.

Anyway if you want to see full itinerary I don't want to clog up this tered so opened in /k/ instead --> link.

from what I read I should buy this ticket at haneda airport, is this one usable everywhere inside tokyo including JR yamanote line?

On your image it already says 'tokyo metro' and 'toei subway' only mah. Doesn't say "JR." So do you think it includes JR yamanote line?

anyone here from S&S tried doing KK to taipei thn transit from taipei to NRT using vanilla air?

I guess one additional risk factor to consider is the risk of flight delay on first leg if you're flying two separate tickets.

I will be boarding at Osaka staying there for 2 days then I'll be taking bus to Tokyo then Kyoto..
It would be helpful for those who actually have a perfect itenary for 9days travel in Japan. I'll be taking my flight back in Osaka.

No such thing as perfect itinerary, because different people like different things. Use this: http://www.japan-guide.com/

Anyway if this is your first trip, 9 days (assume you fly in on 1st day and fly out on 9th day) not quite enough to cover oso. Osaka/Kyoto/Kobe/Nara area alone easily 6-7 days. So you have to sendiri decide what you want and what you don't want to see.

When you want to exchange MYR to JPY in Japan, you should look at the buying rate instead of the selling rate coz at Japan, MYR is foreign currency (外货) so the money changer is buying MYR from you.

Yes. Applies to all countries (or at least, those that I've been to). The Buy and Sell rate is normally from the perspective of the money changer, using the local currency, to buy or sell the foreign currency to you.

1) 8 Day car rental, that rate is cheap oo. what car is that? how many of you? I will be travelling with 4 adults 3 kids..
2) Your ETC is for 9 days... but car rental 8 days.. ETC have option for 8 days right? Any reason why u opt for 9 days?

1) Toyota Allion 1.8. If you have 4 adults 3 kids I think you need to rent 2 cars.

user posted image

2) Car 1 day rental is "24 hours" i.e. you rent today 10am return tomorrow 10am = "1 day." But the ETC pass is by number of calendar days; i.e. if today and tomorrow you plan to drive on expressway then you need to buy 2 days.

But actually if I look back, once I reach Hakodate I never drive expressway liao so I should have buy less days for the ETC pass.

areankim do remember that 7 seater mpv's have very very minimal boot space if you have 7 people. For me unless you pack super light you won't have place to store your luggage.

Human Nature I would say you should rent car in Hokkaido. If you not willing to drive then take tour. Otherwise waste too much time sitting in train and waiting for bus.

If lazy to plan then just follow this http://bit.ly/1iKFMay

I'm going to Japan to see Sakura next year. Gonna arrive Tokyo late March. Since cherry blossoms from south to north, should I fly/take train directly to Osaka/Kyoto first?
*
Go google the historical first and full bloom dates. Tokyo's Sakura is actually earlier than Osaka/Kyoto.
