btw, to share my experience of solo backpack trip to Kyoto-Osaka
Touchdown at Kansai Airport late at night
Due to drowsiness and abit dizziness, I had no choice but had to have a nice sleep on the first night. At the very last minute decision, I stayed the first night in KIX Hotel Nikko, walked in straight without reservation, fortunately they still had a room at 18500 Yen, pricey of course, but considering it is a 4-star hotel, the price is actually not too far from similar hotels in KL.
Then on second day, took Haruka Ltd Express to Kyoto Station, stayed at Stella Higashiyama guest house there for 3 nights, the rooms were roughly RM90/night (solo room). It is a very clean guest house, furnitures all very new. Staffs are friendly and nice, and cute also

.
On Osaka part, I stayed in Sunnystone Hotel. Rates were roughly RM 130/night. Despite being a 2-star hotel, the quality can match those of 3 stars and above in Malaysia.
throughout the 7 days trip, I managed to visit
Kyoto Tower along with the public bath within

Kiyomizu-dera temple
Sannen-zaka and Ninen-zaka
Maruyama-koen park
Shoren-in temple
Fushimi-Inari Taisha Shrine
Kyoto national museum
Arashiyama and the monkey park
Tenryu-ji temple
Bamboo forest
Nishiki market
Gion district
Tenmangu Shrine
Ginkaku-ji temple
Osaka Aquarium + ferry tour
Osaka Castle
Tennoji zoo
Umeda Sky building
Don Quijote discount store and Muji
brief tour in HEP Five
The Kamigata Ukiyoe museum
Tsutenkaku
and some random shopping districts in Osaka
it was an exhilirating journey for me. In Japan city area, with Google Map equipped, you can travel to virtually all hotspots by foot, buses, and trains. I think I walked a total of over 15km in that 7 days, I ate a lot but my bodyfat still dropped 2% when I came back.
