This kind of question would take you only 5 seconds or less to get your answer by visiting Google and type in 'Japan duty free allowance' hmm.gif

Mind I ask how many months in advance need to book for shirakawa gassho home stay? Did u make reservation by phone call? I'm planning to go winter light up and stay overnight in gassho in future smile.gif

if it's the light up event you are aiming for, usually once the dates are released and you should start booking already. You can email to the shirakawa-go tourism to help you book because most of the farmhouse owners does not have emails and calling them will be abit of problem too because they can't speak English, unless you can speak Jap.

info-e@shirakawa-go.gr.jp

For me, I stayed in Shimizu Inn before and I will stay there again next time. I email to Shimizu directly : tcenmdfrux@i.softbank.jp She can speak a little bit of English smile.gif

Rate is 9200 yen per person per night, includes dinner & breakfast.

Lucky day, went to places that are supposed to give a good view of Fujisan but was covered by heavy mist. But while driving to Oshino Hakkai, saw this along my journey.
5star to Fujisan, that feeling when you get to see it. biggrin.gif

here is mine biggrin.gif And I totally understand your feeling....such an iconic view wub.gif

talking about Mt Fuji, during our visit, we did got a clear view of it during our train ride to Kawaguchi-ko, but shortly after that, the heavy mist built up and we cant see it later in the day and even the second day...  cry.gif

fortunately, the next few days in Nikko, we spotted it at Hangetsusan and that's around 300 km away from Mt Fuji...  rclxms.gif

Thats why in winter, you will have a better chance to view Mount Fuji wink.gif

Good suggestion! For the previous trip, I didn't plan for Gero, Okuhida and Hirayu onsen due to time constraint as I have allocated more days at Kyoto + Osaka. Next round will focus more on the GIFU and some rural areas of Japan like Kiso Valley. But then, your suggestion is self driving but we have no guts to drive in winter. smile.gif

Go in spring then.
