i did it on my p4, dropped temp by 1C, not that significant but 1C is life and death, hehe! 1000 and 2000 grit paper, with the pin side hooked to a static free sponge to hold them there.

Would love to see your results lapping it rlhc. Mine's apparently convex instead concave (lucky me) but would be considering doing that too. By the way, if you know where to get sand paper of 400, 800 and 1200 grit, do let us know

got my 400,600. 800,1000 at Ace mid valley, 1200,1500 at my localold-skool hardware store in klang, and 2000 in SS2 hardware store(dunno the name)double storey one.

hmm.. few noob questions from me:

how do we lap the surface? any guide?
we start from what type of sand paper and finish with what?
when do we finish the lapping process..izit when we see the mirror-like surface?

izit the same with HSF surface?

IINM don't think anything will happen as lons as there's no electricity running through the processor... laugh.gif

But just make sure that you don't submerge the processor liao... laugh.gif

Will it make the processor dead? sweat.gif

Nope, i am not gonna do that, i love my Pentium D 930 liao... wub.gif

Even if i've wanted to do lapping on my processor's IHS, i'd think about doing it hundreds of times before i do it... laugh.gif

***Paiseh, up until today, no one answer my question about pulling out the LGA775 processor IHS... sweat.gif

Anyone know how? icon_question.gif

I've been wondering, if i take out the IHS, then put a thermal paste on the core of my processor, then smack em with my XP120 without putting the IHS back on top of the core, would it make a lot of difference than using together with the IHS? shocking.gif

I LOLed

Btw, after you removed the IHS, mean no protection to the bare core.
Installing heatsink directly will just break the bare core. Assuming you are installing those clip mounted heatsink.

You will need to add some protection and ensure that the pressure of the heatsink is just right for the bare core.

Water block will be easier a bit and less dangerous though.

Ya. U got a valid point there...I am sure HSF like XP-120 which use retention clip will had high change to break the core. I notice too much pressure applied on the IHS when installing it.. sweat.gif sweat.gif

I've googled around in yahoo and google, and a lot of forums about pc overclocking...

And what i get is a "NO"... tongue.gif

Guess i won't be doing it...

Hmm, might at least lap my processor IHS... icon_idea.gif

Do anyone know, does Pentium D 930 also uses the same IHS that is used on C2D processors?

IINM, C2D processors uses Copper IHS that is covered in nickel plating...
Does Pentium D 930 also uses the same recipe? blink.gif
