Hello there, I had been quoted for 2 units of Air-Conditioners and I think the price is very high. There are 1hp inverter & 1.5hp inverter Panasonic Split Unit.
And the sifu measure the total length for the copper pipe to be added is 140ft So the installation fee is much more pricier than the air conditoner indoor & outdoor units themselves.
He does free 10ft for each units so total extra is 120ft. Is it reasonable ? I paid for the service.sad.gif

Copper pipe 120ft = RM3360
Casing Trunking = RM480

Can any sifus here help me to justify? Thank you in advance.

15 m of copper pipe PER ROLL (50 ft) x 2 roll (gas+liquid) about RM 450. Need 3 x for your distance, so copper alone RM 1,350. Insulation is per 6 foot length at RM 3 per length, so RM 75, 4 wire 2.5 mm² (because inverter, and far away) per roll about RM 400 (90 m per roll, so can use for 2 a/conds, so RM 200 per unit). So far RM 1,625 in basic material costs only PER AIR COND. So 2 a/cond installation with distance of 140 ft is RM 3,250 in basic material cost.

Your quoted installation cost is cheap. Please check if there are any hidden costs, or if substandard material is going to be used, or if the installer has made a mistake. After started already and then they will come and say have to increase the price.

But forget all the above first..... I believe that 140 ft is over the maximum design limit of copper pipe length for most domestic air conditioner units. Your air conditioners won't work properly, if at all, if my opinion is correct.
Check the installation documentation of your a/cond model to find out the maximum distance between the Indoor/Outdoor units and only proceed if it is within the distance. If not, please redesign your layout.

Hey, thank you for your detailed response.

I realized I missed mentioning the exact distance of the single copper/wiring between the indoor and outdoor unit, which is approximately 25–28 feet.

I assume the installation technician quoted RM28/ft for the extra 120 feet, totaling RM3,360. The length of 140 feet includes the gas and liquid pipes. However, the distance between the two units of my air conditioner is not that far (just 3 feet apart, with one in the bedroom and one in the living room), so 140ft/4 = 35ft for single copper(exceeded the exact distance 25-28ft).

I purchased the split unit from a popular store that had set up a booth at HOMEDEC, so I assumed the installation services they provided would be reliable. That’s why I did not seek a supplementary installer for the job.

As they traveled from Shah Alam to my place in Cheras, I didn’t feel comfortable rejecting their quote on the spot.

140ft is kinda long, make sure they do a proper vacuum and recharge refrigerant.

The length of single copper between indoor unit & outdoor unit is just 25-28ft. 140ft cut into 4 = 35ft.

Would you be happy if I said the cost is cheap and you got a good deal? What about I said it is expensive and that you got conned?

The fact is the installation is completed and you have already paid. Move on with your life and don't revisit the past that is already done.
