Need some advises here.

Recently, my aircon is not cold anymore.
After checking the coolant is OK, the contractor claimed that the compressor PCB board is defective.

Replacement cost is RM710 (part + labor).
Is the price reasonable for Panasonic 1HP inverter aircon?

Anyone has recommended contractor?

Should I consider to top up RM400 to get a brand new Sharp inverter aircon with installation?

Better buy a brand new aircon especially if your AC >5 years, at least you get new warranty.
Can consider Hitachi as well if for own stay long term usage.
*
Current AC is about 4 years old and rarely used.
Just not sure why it can spoil suddenly.

Cost to replace the compressor pcb board is ridiculously high, any chance to get better price?

For best result, outdoor unit need to be in cool place not baking in the sun or wet from rain.
If you can get the PCB out, can try taking to repair shops presumably ard Jalan Pasar to try to fix. Many ppl fix the ceiling fan capacitors.
But typically inverter lifespan is about 5-10 years (for industrial motors) - this is usually because of the inverter's capacitor failing circa 40000 hours (cap lifespan)

Sometimes it could also be because of surge/spike in voltage. TNB tries to give us 240V but sometimes can be higher (you can get a voltmeter and test) brows.gif
*
The outdoor unit is always in a well ventilated place with zero direct sunlight.
Perhaps you are right that the problem is caused by voltage spike.

I read somewhere that the compressor has 5 years warranty, perhaps I should call Panasonic.

Did you perform chemical wash the coil from time to time?

*
No but regular normal cleaning service.
The coil area is very clean now, no wind blockage.

QUOTE(cherroy @ Aug 2 2019, 04:19 PM)
Rarely used - you don't need an inverter, a brand new 1HP non-inverter just cost about RM1k or little more.

Nowadays plenty of brand compressor has 5 years warranty. You may give a call to them if it is still under warranty.
*
I can get a Sharp inverter model for less than RM1k too.

Panasonic informed me that compressor is covered by 5 years warranty but not the control board.

QUOTE(se800i @ Aug 2 2019, 07:03 PM)
Buy a new one better
*
Hard to say, my current AC is Panasonic "premium inverter" model.
An equivalent new unit may will cost more than double and not to forget the installation cost too.
If the repaired part come with good warranty period, I don't mind to repair it.

So I read about inverters need 4 cores cable while the standard wiring is 3 cores. I checked with my developers electrical they told me itโ€™s 3 cores aiyo. Where is the extra 1 core to?

DB to indoor unit to outdoor unit?

sifus, my sharp aircond after install unable to turn on. once I on the power the air cond lights all come up and there is continuous beeping sound non stop until I turn it off. remote control no response either. any idea?

mine is the sharp inverter 1.5hp unit.

You can read the manual on how to get the error codes.
If you are still unsure, please hire an aircon guy.

Tried but unable to get the error code also.

I suspect the wiring is incorrect. Any pro here can verify my connection? โ˜บ๏ธ๐Ÿ™

I'm surprise to see that you have green wire for neutral and red wire for ground.
Let's don't mess around as you are risking to destroy the aircon or harm yourself.
Please hire an aircon guy.

If you insist to try it yourself, make sure electric is switched off.
Then do this:

Indoor (top): The wire with power from grid
N: Blue
1: Brown (live)
Earth: Green

Outdoor (bottom):
N: Blue
1: Brown
2: Additional red wire in your picture
Earth: Green

The outdoor unit should have corresponding 4 terminals to connect like the "outdoor (bottom)" part.

the Indoor (top row) I have wired it accordingly. I think this is fine.

the Outdoor (bottom row) I have followed the label on the indoor unit to the outdoor unit. ie. N to N , 1 to 1, 2 to 2, Earth to Earth

when i power on the main switch, the aircond lights able to turn on but there is warning beeping noise continuously. remote no respond as well.
*
I worried if you had destroyed the aircon due to earlier mis-connection.
Anyway, since indoor unit is up, you can check the error codes.
Please google to know how to check error codes with your remote.

Is the outdoor fan running?

hi,

I'm looking for a good aircon contractor recommendations around klang valley.

My new house has all the inverter copper, drain pipes and wiring built-in.
No additional hacking needed.
No outdoor mounting bracket needed.

I find it strange when they are still charging the normal installation rates RM200 for 1HP, RM230 for 1.5HP and so on.

Zero material cost and purely installation labor only for 7-8 aircons.

Buy with price include installation. You have better bargaining terms.

Tried a few shops without luck.
All claimed installation is outsourced to contractors.

Please be aware that the mainstream inverter aircons are normally categorised as higher end model than the standard non-inverter variant.

The cooling capacity is also higher even the compressor is running full speed.
This means even the inverter dynamic speed feature has not kicked in yet, it already consumes less power than the non-inverter lower end model.

The inverter tech is already in the market for many years and this is NOT the only tech for saving electricity in aircon.
If your aim is to save electricity, an inverter aircon is the one to go regardless of any environmental factors if we are comparing the same HP units.

Of course, the next steps are to consider the correct size unit, house sealing and etc.

So you are saying if Inverter set at Fan3 and 16 degree for 8 hours straight is still save more electricity than Standard non inverter?
*
QUOTE(dayalan86 @ Aug 7 2021, 12:26 PM)
If you want to set the AC at 16degC better get non inverter, the AC will never be able to achieve this set temperature in a normal sized bedroom.
*
These are not good benchmark examples.
Although we are setting at 16C for both units but the cooling capacity is different. The key is the btu per watt. Higher end model (even inverter feature has not kicked in) has better efficiency.

In layman term, when we set to 16C, inverter Aircon may cool down the room to 20C but non-inverter can only cool down to 22C with the same power consumption.

Yup correct but you will not be able to fully enjoy the energy savings of a Inverter Aircond as it tries to cool down the room to the set temperature but you are right that from the get-go; higher end models tend to provide the energy savings but if you do a btu / watt / RM ratio comparison; you will see that the capital expenditure on this models tend to be much higher (unless price has significantly dropped & technology has improved a lot from the comparison I have done during 1st quarter of 2020)
*
Please try to compare again now.
Basically, non-inverter model has higher (50-130W) peak power consumption than other models.
That means even we run both in peak mode, users can enjoy better cooling experience and lower electricity bill.

The initial discussion was about saving electricity bill cost.
The purchasing cost was not considered.
If this has to be considered, please also factor in the gained features (fast cooling, ionizer, connectivity, etc) and experience (cooling effect).
Your formula can become (btu/watt + features + experience)/RM ratio.

The only cost concern is the part replacement for inverter models is significantly higher.
More features also mean more things can fail.
But this reliability can be subjected to brand, maintenance, installation, usage and etc.

Just installed Samsung windfree for my kids room and absolutely loved it. Really comfortable cooling. Wish to install for my room but wife prefer really cold ac. I hate direct blowing because using mouth breathing whenever I sleep. Makes my throat dry.[U]
*
Your problem can be solved by using Aircon windshield.
Just search for it in lazada/shopee.

Even without that, some newer aircons blade designs allow wind blowing at 90 degrees. Less direct blowing discomfort.

Hi. Anyone using panasonic x-deluxe inverter series? I have one 1.5hp in masterroom and i notice during midnight the room will not be so cold as initial start up. First few hours, i can feel the room is cold but during midnight when sleeping my wife and i feel is warm. I notice the compressor fan run slowly and sometime it stops then continue back in slow mode. Is there any issue or normal behaviour of this x-deluxe inverter aircond?๐Ÿค” temperature set is 23-25c with ceiling fan on speed 2

For my another panasonic non inverter unit 1hp and sharp inverter , the coldness is chilly cold even can feel it when open the door and stays the same until next morning.๐Ÿค”

It's time to service your aircon.
