hi guys,

for 1HP inverter air cond, when connecting indoor to outdoor unit, what wire should we use ? should use 3 or 4 cores? i checked a lot of argument that earth wire for outdoor unit is unnecessary

70/0076 x3
70/0076 x4
70/0193 x4

4 core-wires including earth. You need earth for any faults. w/o it may damage main board.

should get this 70/0193 x4 for 2.5mm ?

hi all, today i open the panasonic aircond installation manual, it didn't mention anything about the wires specification (2.5mm) for the power source from DB, but it did mentioned about IDU to ODU is only required 4C x 1.5mm for 1HP to 1.5HP.

so in this case we can use 1.5mm for IDU to ODU ?

The bolded one is the wire spec.
U can use 4C 1.5mm Fajar https://shopee.com.my/product/76323881/5357094772

Or 4x stiff wire Mega Kabel 1.5mm
https://shopee.com.my/product/253521068/9659166838

Cost wise about the same but flexicord 1.5mm (the Fajar one) u have double layer insulation. Mega one is single layer so u need to protect with another layer of flexi conduit.
*
how come we have been talking about 2.5mm for all wiring, but when i check installation manual is 1.5mm ?

You are correct, most of the installation manuals from the manufacturer for air conditioner units specify a minimum of 1.5 mm² wire between IDU and ODU for about 2 HP units or below
*
is it because from DB 2.5mm is required to supply the power for both IDU and ODU , while the 1.5mm wires between IDU and ODU is meant for ODU and signal only ? so

The power from DB to air cond is wired as a socket point, so the wires will be 2.5 mm², and the MCB will be 20A (I prefer to use 16A)
The IDU and ODU has both power (for the compressor) and signal if you are using inverter air cond (1 extra wire, normal air cond only 3 wires), and like you said, manufacturers specify 1.5 mm² wires for them.

Edit to add:
This is just the first nameplate of an air cond that I found as demonstration only

It is a total of ~2500 Watt, or ~3 HP. The rated current is 11.2 Amps. 1.5 mm² wire can withstand 14 Amps (conditions apply). So, in theory, you can wire up your 1.5 HP air cond from the DB with 1.5 mm² wire and still be safe. But 2.5 mm² is used.

It is similar to water heaters. 2.5 mm² wire can withstand 20 A (again, conditions apply) but Suruhanjaya Tenaga now requires 4 mm² to be used for all water heaters.

I would say it is not a technical reason, but rather an administrative one. ST sets the rules from the DB to the air cond unit, but not from the IDU to the ODU (the manufacturer does that)
*
hmmm, so for my 1HP aircond, from DB to Socket is currently 2.5mm. But my IDU to ODU is 1.5mm , is that fine if the length is 15meter long ? if 100% copper we can ignore the distance because the resistance is very low ?

found more ugly thing as i check the work by myself. previous contractor connect the 2.5mm wire like this, this is direct from DB for aircond.
must redo whole wiring ? can just connect with reliable connector ? any recommendation ?

previous contractor hack till the rebar when there is a ready sleeve beside the drain pipe. i see the rebar a bit rusty and itself originally no coating.
how to fix this ? can simply just apply cement on it ?

There is no difference in inverter or non inverter piping. Idk where this folklore came from.
U can get a vernier caliper or cheap digital caliper to check pipe thickness.

0.5mm fake pipe better throw
0.6mm is elcheapo borderline and not good for R32 long term.
0.7mm is much better for R32. Easily available in Acson/Daikin pancake.
0.8mm is the Japanese standard but in MY getting 0.8 price is out of this world
*
Acson and daikin pancake also 0.6mm only
