Hey just wondering what's your thoughts on taking CFA. how essential it is in Malaysia. Cos' recently I found out. to finish the 3 levels is nothing, but to be really a Chartered Member then that's something. To be chartered, you need to go through having a mentor and work in a CFA affiliated company.

what are your thoughts?

It's a good credential for analysts (equity/fixed income), fund managers in buy-side and sell-side. Essential? No. There are those who are in the industry without taking the CFA Program. The program is rigorous, so I would not agree with "...to finish the 3 levels is nothing,...". To be a charterholder, you need two sponsors (preferably two CFA charterholders), not really mentors. There is no such thing as a CFA affiliated company. As long as your work experience meets the CFA Institute's working experience requirements, it should suffice.

Hi, is the text books from CFA Institute itself enough for exam? I plan to self-study for level 1...

And, do I need to buy any special calculator for CFA? I already owned a scientific calculator [CASIO fx-570ES].

Thanks. laugh.gif

Yes, it is sufficient, I do know few candidates passed all 3 exam by only study the text books.

U need a financial calculator, please refer to CFA website for the exam requirement.

level 1 can self study if you graduate with finance degree (basically revising ur degree with a little bit twist), level 2 go for classes unless you are discipline and well, really smart.

btw, when i go for level 2 classes, i was surrounded by cgpa close to 4 student, or first class honour students, and i m just a 2nd lower student only. tongue.gif

cfa notes? are you referring to schweser? If yes, that should be enough but preferably the textbook as well. And yes, the notes is good for revision.
