Android 6.0 released for P8 Max:

QUOTE(karheng @ Jun 6 2016, 09:39 AM)
So far 6.0 no problem. I read many users got problem in the forum but I am ok with it.
Camera can use professional mode. It can screen recording also. Battery life feel can last longer.

if your OTA not work, you may try this link. All in chinese steps but I think it's not difficult to understand it.

5.1_b029 - 6.0_b211
http://club.huawei.com/thread-9237976-1-3.html

1. download the update.zip file ( no need unzip it after download completed ) - 1.13GB
2. copy to SD card/dload ( create new folder if don't have )
3. go to settings>updater.

* take your own risk. as i know some of the mate 8 user also using this method to get latest update.

I'm tempted with the P8 MAX.. Previously when they announced p8, I didn't realized that there is a max version. Now I'm almost certain that I will get P8 max, but I'll wait for some review first

I will get the P8 Max if you ask me.

Kirin 935 is much faster and P8/P8 max are using the one and only Sony's 4 colour image sensor.

Apart from these two, no much difference.

Agree

P8 maybe sits on the premium line of Huawei devices, hence got the best spec overall

X2 is on tablet line.

But price may be differ as well.. I hope thethe P8max sits in the 2k price tag, and X2 at 1.5k

Huawei seems to let internal product teams compete among themselves, hence it is starting to look like they may become like Samedung.

IF at all I want to make any change this year it will be the P8 Max for sure, but I already have the Tab S 8.4 and satisfied with it.

I used to have tab s 8.4 as well, it is a very good device, but I let go because it is not pocketable hence seldom used.. Last time, I can fit in mediapad X1 into my pocket, so P8 max should be pocketable. To make a good use of a device is to be able to bring it everywhere with me.

Huawei's designers have done a really great job in portability ever since Ascend P6.
Their screen to body ratio is so good. Very portable despite having big screens.

Get a Jot Mini or Jot Pro, and use the app called INKredible.

This is so far the ONLY app I have seen that implements palm rejection to any successful degree for devices without active digitizers. I have tried many handwriting note apps, including Papyrus, Handy Note Pro (so far the most feature rich), DioNote (a really good app as well) and quite a few others.

However the downside is the app is still fairly new and doesn't seem to have enough sync to cloud features yet.

If not mistaken either Apple or Samsung already patent that design.

Patents are meant to be licensed, and Wacom (used in the Note) is just one of several digitizer technologies available. And fcuk fapple as they are patent trolls.

I don't think the "design" is patented but the underlying technology is.

Huawei has no plans to bring in P8 Max in Malaysia yet. If they do consider, it is likely towards the end of the year.

(P8 Max) 182.7 x 93 x 6.8 mm

vs

(Sony Z Ultra) 179.4 x 92.2 x 6.5 mm

Seems that the P8 Max is almost similar (0.8mm) width with the Z Ultra. And only about 3+mm longer.. Having the Z ultra before, i imagine this is quite compact.. really drool.gif at this

Rumors suggest Sony will release Xperia Z5 Ultra that have screen size 6.5".

The suggested retail price for 32G (no 16G) is approximately RM2.1K.
You can use Micro SD up to 128G.

Comes with Android 5.1.1 by default and was recommended to upgrade to higher version when switched on

64gb internal alone makes me drool. While mate 7 still stuck at kit kat. mad.gif
The size similar to Z ultra? since the bezel is kinda small.

It is infact quite similar in size to XZU except length and width is very slightly bigger only
XZU : 179.4 x 92.2 x 6.5 mm
P8 Max : 182.7 x 93 x 6.8 mm

P8 Max : All reviews were wrong - the main sim card is MICRO-SIM and NOT nano sim as so commonly reported. The phone easily support my Samsung Evo 128 GB Class 10 card ( exFAT format)
Only the second slot which can support an external SDcard supports a NANO simcard

Some initial benchmarks

Attached Image Attached Image

I had been testing the phone past 4+ hours and I must say my ex Mate7 ( on KitKatt) seems to be slicker and smoother
There were initially some minor issues with certain apps - launching was slow and failed to execute properly. Restarting the phone solve these issues - it could be due to possible incompatibilities with the bigger display and Lollipop issues ??
Apps were Feedly, GReader Pro and Spot News. Well these 3 apps now run fine without problems
Multi Windows I found not supported on Nova launcher and only works on default Emoticon UI launcher
Battery life appears excellent and I recorded 3.5 hours with about 25 % battery usage - will do a more detailed testing over next few days as battery was not fully charged yet
Audio quality is sufficiently good and loud and I am very happy with it. Camera is obviously snappier than Mate 7 and the shots I consider quite good quality too

The set does NOT come with all Google stuff. Example it doesn't have Calendar and Contacts sync in the Google account. I installed Google Calendar to sync all my calendar entries with my GMail account. For Contacts initially I installed Contacts+ to sync with my Gmail contacts. However i found installing a GoogleContactsSync APK finally had the contacts in Google account settings

Yes. Unroot bootloader than flash custom recovery through adb/fastboot commands n than flash chainfire supersu.zip through recovery mode.
If you checked the web few sites recommend using genius software but is all BS as this software fails to root

U mean unroot or unlock bootloader...? Unlock via Huawei weblink?

Most of the time Kirin SoC does not play nice with one-click root/proprietary root apps. So, for novice user that requires root access, ADB command will make them scratch their head...LOL

Can change the DPI reso like many other Huawei devices?

Sorry unlock bootloader
Is just a simple one sentence command to flash recovery : eg fastboot flash recovery twrp.img. Nothing complicate or difficult
Had never bother ever trying change dpi in all my previous HW phones. If rooted don't see why one cannot change it

Thanks for the input.

I believe the radio signal for P8 Max is at top notch knowing that Huawei internals under the hood is no. 1 in signal strength for GSM, WCDMA, LTE as well as WiFi. Correct?

Absolutely no problems. HW traditionally is strong in this vs all other phone manufacturers.

Get this only if you like a bigger display. N is main reason why I bought it. Is quite similar to Mate7 n its battery life appears much better. Main cons in HW phones are its slow updates especially on Msian models
Had mentioned earlier minor deficiences in China phone on Google issues but easily settled

Hi Uncle Benny, thanks for the heads up.

As per PM, someone on G+ Huawei forum mentioned that he could write using a standard capacitive stylus like a normal notepad ie with palm rejection.

Could you please test this, as this is the most important point for any device that is a paper replacement.

As to radio performance, when I had my X1, it beat all my other devices in terms of reception and speed. I believe too that this is where Huawei excels.

Unable to write if one hand is on display. Why need to put hand on display when one can easily grip its sides??!
Scrolling n moving among screens , selection n execution of app no issue if one hand on display
Writing with stylus can never ever match Note4 accuracy, smoothness n efficiency !!

When I wenr to a hotel then go out for dinner at a restaurant few blocks away. My Mate 7 still can detect the wifi and browse altho the signal is very2 weak. Wherelse my Z3 and my fren's 5s cant even detect the wifi.

Just recieved my 2nd firmware update on the p8max
This China set really get regular updates unlike all HW Msian sets updates are rare n lucky you will get one in a year.
I experienced similar scenarios in all previous HW Msian sets - while I see 4-5 updates within 6 months for China n Euro sets , Msian sets remain unchanged for more than 6-9 months!!

I paid RM 2160 for the 64GB ( China set) .. the prices overseas are even worse : Nearest Thailand is RM2100+ BUT only for 32GB and China itself is RM2.4K.
In Europe it is a staggering : 32 GB for Euro 549 ( RM 2652) and 64GB for Euro 649 ( RM 3136) - blame the depreciating ringgit for these pricing !!

It is up to you to decide whether the higher price of P8Max is worth it over the lower end X2
I decided to buy it as I find the pricing of the 64GB is attractive enough . I still don't know how the seller can sell at such a lower pricing vs China itself ??

Just type p8 max in search box and you can see it. Price has now INCREASE to RM 2250
http://www.lelong.com.my/6-8-huawei-p8-max...6-07-Sale-P.htm

The P8 Max is of very obvious nicer build quality ( looks much classier) , slightly slimmer and thinner cum lighter. Its chip is higher end Kirin 935 vs 930 of X2. Its WIFI is more featured : Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, DLNA, WiFi Direct, hotspot vs Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, dual-band, hotspot. Storage option of P8Max is 32 or 64 gb vs 16 or 32GB for X2

Again is your choice to decide whether it is worth it !

The p8Max would be more pocketable vs the X2, although the X2 will probably have a slightly nicer screen.

Finally got to unlock bootloader, fastboot flash twrp n installed root
Unlocking BL extremely easy n getting unlock code was immediate on HW website. It was so inconvenient in Mate7 where I had to email them n waited for 2 days to get the unlock codes
Phablet now is more flexible for me to add in tweaks that needed root

Good, I am satisfied with this phone. So far its the best I had after Mediapad X1, Lenovo Phab Plus. I have two version, one china version and the other one is international version. Don't seem much different between both, except some minor software changes that I notice.

International version, current firmware DAV-701L-B005

China version, current firmware DAV-703L-B029

I saw some message that that are testing lolipop for this phone, not sure when it will be release officially. Anyway, that is for china version. Not sure if it will ever make it to international version.

Hi, did you get the 64Gb version of the M2 10 ?

Could you share your note taking experience with it, preferably with Microsoft's OneNote.

Thanks!

one feature that i find useful on huawei rom is the "timing boot and shutdown".. i've set the device to have rest (shutdown) for 3 hours in the midnight, perhaps this could help in lengthen its lifespan

1. download the update.zip file- 1.13GB
2. unzip and copy all folders/files to SD card/dload ( create new folder if don't have )
3. go to settings>updater.

* take your own risk. as i know some of the mate 8 user also using this method to get latest update.

Huawei bootloader checks the Sdcard specially for the "update" directory and it will trigger the update sequence.

After the first boot, remove the sdcard so you won't bootloop forever.

Nope, it went into bootloop. I tried force update a couple times, it just stuck at huawei logo during bootup. Something is not right with the firmware downloaded. I download again, same thing happen. I downloaded back the previous version and do force update, it is now working fine.

Yes, I reverted back to B029. I suspect the file is not complete. Although the update completed successfully on the phone, it will go into bootloop. And when installing the update, it is too fast. Even when I reverted back to B019, the amount of time for installation is almost twice.

I left my phone on bootloop whole night yesterday, lucky lcd still OK. When on bootloop, I cannot turn off the phone. It will always restart itself and stuck at huawei logo. rclxub.gif I only managed to download the B029 this morning.

have you unzip the update file?
There will be 4 folders and UPDATE.APP after unzip.

I am also confuse the step mentioned in the forum. Should zip or not zip to SD Card/dload folder. You can try again.

Try OTA method if above not work.

1.
a. Launch HiCare app>Member>Check for updates.
or
b. Go to HiApp>search "Huawei", check if "华为手机服务“ ( it's actually HiCare also ) is up to date.

2. Launch HiCare> Service, see if got the "升级申请" ( pic3)
3. Apply.

Yes, I have unzip. Done both, put on dload folder and put on root of the SD card. The correct method is put on on dload folder.

By the way, i notice the update.app file is very small. As my know dealing with Huawei phone all this while, this is the major update file. The file that I downloaded is less than half of the size of B029. And I compare with my old Xi and Mate 7, all the update.apps are usually large file. I wonder if this is the one that cause the bootloop.

Guys, want to ask....I recall when I had my X1, there was a Huawei app that allowed me to mirror ANOTHER PHONE screen to the X1.

I was able to mirror my daughter's Mi3 onto the X1 and control the Mi3.

Is there a similar app in the P8 or your other large-screened Huaweis ?

I'm thinking to trying it out on the Mi Max if available. I recall that there was some apk that was needed.

No. Multi-screen is Huawei's name for Miracast.

What I'm referring to is a stock app somewhere in the phone which does this.

It's not mirroring the Huawei to another phone. It is mirroring another phone to the Huawei.

how big is the UPDATE.APP from the zip file? Here show 61.1MB.
Not sure it's corrupted or not...

info from guide:
other thing need to take note is make sure SD card got at least 4GB space, format is FAT/NTFS.

the normal update.app file for update is above 1GB. For B029, the update.app file is over 2.7GB. Did you manage to update your phone using the zip file that you have uploaded?

I am using 32GB sd card formatted in FAT. I have done update for many huawei phone using the same sd card, should not be a issue.

Not sure what wrong. After unzip is 1.7GB. I update thru OTA when they starting at forum.
I am not sure if our phone if different. I bought my phone from aliexpress, not by local seller. But this shouldn't be any issue since they also import from China.

Have you try install HiSuite thru computer and do update? ( the icon got arrow up is the system update)

It seem that the version that you have updated in beta version. It could be your phone is registered as beta tester, therefore you are getting the update. I went to Emui China site, which is official huawei site, and the latest official version is still B029.

If the phone is not registered as beta tester user, there will not be any update available regardless if you connect via hisuite or not.

I will just then wait for the official version to be release. I think it will take some time. Anyway, I am currently still happy with my phone.

Yup, b029 good enough.

Finally received my p8max after week waiting. Nice packaging. It comes 2nd on my list after csl k800 i bought back in 2008 (with glossy wooden box) 1st thing i try is the camera. Not the best but it was as good as Samsung Note 3's camera. Since I'm using it most of the time for browsing and youtubing i have no complaints as p8 max's performance is up to my expectations. For a price tag of rm1319 (ap set warranty) its a best bang for your buck. 😊

*what's in the box?
1.phone
2.charger
3.usb cable
4.sim/sd card tray ejector
5.high end earpiece
6.flip case

I got an update for my china set yesterday and I have updated to 6.0. Look good, except keep getting google play services error asking me to update to latest version but I already on the latest version available. Tried uninstall and reinstall, the message still popping out.

I find it strange too, the picture show the white color but as far as I remember, only gold (premium version) have 64GB/3GB. As I know other color such as white is 32GB. Well...I could be wrong.

My international set also have Android 6 update. The new update remove Huawei browser and replace with Chrome as default browser. So far good, no crash/hang and I have not seen any bug. They have also fix the Gmail notification, which now you can see new email clearly.

Seems like the Lelong seller no more selling this P8 Max.. its like not any shop in malaysia selling this anymore.. now this become a rare gem biggrin.gif

Take off the flip casing, using it naked for several days now, such a beauty device, feel premium to hold.. performance still never let me down.. still never hang.. even my Note 5 encounter hang 2-3 times i had to reboot.. duhh doh.gif

This phablet is still the best bang for my buck.. cancel my intention to get mi max, as when i think back 6.8inch is the maximize screen for portable device to me, downgrade to 6.4 will be such a waste.. camera wise mi max suxx except using hdr mode.. p8max camera is not as good as note 5 but definitely ok for daily shooting. Overall spec and built is all ok, no gripe for the price i bought.. (for the original rrp which is around 2.5k i do find its not that worth la)

As i might not be getting note 7 (except i might be interested if the is blue coral color) hence P8max and Note 5 will be my companion this year

Well said. I am still sticking to P8 Max although I gotten 1 Mi Max. I still feel P8 Max is better. Updated to Android 6, so far I have not encounter any slowdown or hang. Everything work perfectly.

I might look at Honor Note 8. Not sure if this will come here. May look into getting China unit.

the spec is good.. SD652 has been proven performs good.. but having midrange proc, i hope the price does not exceed 2k for the highest spec (Mi Max is the benchmark now).. only interested with the 128gb/4gb model, hope the price is right..

hope the 23mp camera can deliver promises, based on previous experience with asus, that was just numbers..

P8max vs ZF3u

Gorilla Glass 3 vs 4
4360mah vs 4600mah
Normal USB vs Type C (i'm not quite sure what is the advantage tho)
No fast charging vs fast charging

Highest ZF3u spec: higher ram and storage

Other than that, i think just a bunch of gimmicky features..

The spec is not day and night diff.. so less desire to go for it

Uncle, got your Zen Ultra dy?

Keen to hear your impressions between them.. i think almost sure that the zen ultra have many advantages over P8 max, but wondering how far it is to justify the price gap..P8 max (64gb) imported set currently selling at rm1750 vs. zen ultra rm2.5k

Try ebay
I will be selling off mine soon
The ZF3ultra is a so much better alternative vs it. Anyway this p8max is already close to a year old . The ZF3u beats it obviously in smoothness, speed, display, audio n video quality. Only issue I don't quite like on ZF3u is its location of vol buttons at back.

Haha.. wah.. simply beat it yeah..

How about the camera on ZF3u? Does it really live up to the spec?

On this P8 max, i don't hv any issue so far, never hang,it is capable to do any tasks from game to productivities, no gripe.. but when it come to photography, i still tend to refuse to snap pic using this, but rely on my note 5 instead.. lol.. so yeah, camera is one thing i hope it was better on this p8 max..

But this came from me who used to have S7 edge and sill having Note 5, coz i seen better camera.. as when my friend tested my p8 max camera, they said it is good enough..

Point is, want to use a big phablet like this as my main driver, but as for p8 max now, the camera makes me still hv to rely on my note 5.. (despite the s-pen)

As for display, wonder how ZF3u is better.. Coz in my opinion p8 max display is very good dy, even using it along with note 5, i dont find its display disappointing.. (i mean if use 2 phine with one display is far better than the other, its obvious and could be irritating, which is not the case here) thinking to go to asus outlet to see display set of ZF3u..

I managed to hold a ZF3u yesterday in Singapore, played with it for only a few mins. SGD778.

It is the same size as a Phab Plus, and looks very similar as well. UI looked pretty stock with a few Asus menu items, and fingerprint scanner is in the home button.

Nice feel to the phone, but wonder why they skipped NFC for a flagship?

I also wonder how USB-C to Displayport is going to work, since all TVs are HDMI. Not sure how many would have DP.
