I don't do bugs photography and I rarely do macro product shoots so I'm not the best person for this

However I would say it's a very good buy.
It's a very close clone of the canon ring flash.
Difference mainly in the TTL accuracy and lack of High speed sync functionality.
Also no triggering function with your 430EXii

But it's way better(brighter) than an LED ring light.

Ring flashes are not really that great for shooting bugs, mainly because of the circular design- not easy to design a suitable diffuser for it- the light coming directly from the flash will be harsh. To see the effects of flash with and without diffusion, can read here: http://pixelsdimension.com/how-good-is-your-flash-diffuser/

Additionally, the light reach will not be enough too- not suitable if you are taking shots from slightly farther away, which is often needed for sensitive/timid insects icon_rolleyes.gif

The best way to get a "ring flash" is to make one yourself, connecting a tube from your flashgun all the way to a circular diffuser surrounding the lens; ensuring that all the inner linings are of aluminium foil thumbup.gif I've seen many people using this design, and the results are great, worth trying thumbup.gif

I am using a cheap yongnuo 560 manual flash with a cheap rm50 diffuser and it works well to me.
