WALOU....!

This morning I registered an account with Jobstreet.com Singapore and found out that 9 out of 10 jobs postings in Singapore stated that" STRICTLY FOR SINGAPOREANS AND PR ONLY"

That means chances for Malaysians getting a job in Singapore is very very slim..

Why there want to impose such a restriction??? I thought Singapore welcome good human assets from all over the world to develop and bring up its country?

guys, mind sharing how do u find jobs in singapore? do you link up through net or u have referrals?
*
I used to search jobs in Jobstreet.com and there are many jobs over there. For instance, accounts & finance postions there are bout 1k+ positions.

i juz applied bout 10 jobs but juz managed to be shortlisted for 3 interviews so far but not satisfied with the salary offered then i rejected it... sien. Maybe Malaysians are always in a disadvantaged position compare to Singaporeans in the job market.

Almost all things are cheaper in SG than in MY if u don't convert bcos u r earning SGD unless u are going there for holidays..

The only thing that is expensive are properties, education, insurance, road tax and personal income tax... but wth u need these sort of things if u do not plan to migrate over there?

It's all relative.

Properties, if you're eligible for HDB, you can buy new HDB properties of around S$300K as long as your salary is less than 8K per month. I think that's roughly the same consideration as someone in PJ/KL. The CPF withdrawal programs for home purchase are more extensive than EPF, so most people do own flats.

However, all HDB flats and at the end of the day even landed freehold, will return to the govt at some point. The compulsory purchase and enbloc (majority wins) laws are extensive. So, there's very little chance of passing down your property for generation after generation after generation.

Education... it's free as long as you go where you're told ie. don't put up a fight when the ministry tells you that your kids are too dumb to go to uni, and can only qualify for poly or trade school.

Insurance... in what way? Do insurance companies in Malaysia charge lower premiums (in US$ terms) compared to Singapore insurance companies for a US$1,000,000 policy?

Road tax... well, you pay a couple thousand S$ each year... but then a Camry costs S$85000 in Sg, and RM150,000 in Malaysia. The difference will pay for a lot of years of road tax.

Personal tax... Singapore is actually much lower in terms of personal income tax. The progressive rates progress slower and the maximum rate is lower. However they have GST, but that doesn't apply to savings, whereas income tax applies to both savings and expense components of income.

IMHO, there is NO financial downside to working in Singapore compared to Malaysia... in general, unless your circumstances are exceptional. Otherwise, don't worry about the money.

The main considerations to making the move from Malaysia to Singapore will always be your family situation, your attitudes towards the differences in lifestyle in Singapore vs Malaysia and your opinion on the importance 'national' loyalties / pride / politics / equality etc.

For properties... in SG u can only use SGD300k to buy only a HDB, not even a condo (provided u r a singaporean..PR can only buy 2nd hand HDB, which is more expensive). In MY you can use RM300k to buy a double storey house..

For education, study a E&E degree will cost around SGD100k min but it will cost only bout RM80k in MY, I am comparing the lousiest degree from a lousiest uni.. for more reputable uni, it will easily cost u more than SGD150k.

For CPF contribution, they will deduct u a max of 20% of ur monthly salary whereas in MY they will only deduct u 11%.... That means u have lesser income to spare.. I noe some will argue that CPF are part of ur savings but to those who noes what NPV means, CPF in SG is a crap.. U can only withdraw ur CPF after u retired at 55 yrs... Hence, i rather obtain my 100% of my salary now than to only obtain my 80% of my salary and the balance 20% after i am 55 yrs... For those who only intend to work there for 4 to 5 yrs to earn some income then afterthat come back to MY to marry, why do u want to put ur CPF in SG which u can only withdraw it after 55 yrs??
This is the reason why i do not want to apply for a PR even i have worked there for 2 yrs...ie once u apply for a PR, u are compulsory to contribute CPF... What a stupid law is that...

may i know is it enough to survive if i earned S$1500 in singapore as account assistant ?

any advise ? thank notworthy.gif s......

I always believe if u can earn and survive with RM1,500 in KL, you are sure that you can survive in SG with S$1,500 bcos things here are more cheaper than in KL. For rent, u need to pay RM300-400 for a room, but in SG, the price is around this price also... Good luck

Hey guys, is working in SG recommended for a Malay? Because I have a Malay friend who is quite interested to work here....
*
Hmmm... interesting question..
However...personally I would not recommend a Malay to work here. The reasons being:

1) It is very very hard to find a halal restaurant here... There are very few mamaks here for the Malays... Almost 95% is chinese restaurant. Even u go to food courts in supermarkets, there are still selling babi foods there...
2) Employers here basically won't allow Muslims to go for Fridays prayers unless you can skip lunch and the masjid is just next to ur office... but i think is very very hard to find that kind of place to work in SG.
3) If not wrong, schools here won't allow muslim girls to wear tudung oso... I once heard a news saying that a school in SG ban a gal from wearing tudung.
4) Singaporeans like to keep dogs as pets and let them walk freely in the park or around their HDB, but if you are a Muslim, i afraid u may not be so comfortable in walking in the parks or around ur HDB because there are many dogs around..
5) There are very very few masjid (I only seen 2 masjid so far after i work here for 6 mths) in SG. So, it will be quite troublesome if u are staying quite far from the masjid and wanna perform ur morning prayers at 4.30am..

Nevertheless, if u are a Muslim and still can cope with the facts mentioned above... I would recommend ur Malay friend to work here.. Good luck to ur friend. biggrin.gif

ya...too bad i have to take aeroline back to KL this weekend SGD40 2nd time since start working here back in May), on saturday morning somemore due to all full booked bus tickets. Cant even secure a cheap bus ticket week before and left only with aeroline. Guess next time should act month before.

Btw, 4 hours is damn fast. I thought normally will take 5 hours or more. Which bus express is that?
*
Ya, the aeroline sucks lah... It is more for those foreigners travelling from SG to KL who wanted to enjoy the journey along the stupid highway at night..

So now, I take only those normal express buses at beach road and its around SGD20++ only which is much much better... and sometimes you can reach Puduraya about 4 hrs depends on the queue at 2nd Link...

I got 2 instances whereby i reach KL in only bout 3.5 hrs bcos tis company did not even stop for a break in either Yong Peng or the rest room and it is travelling at high speed oso... but i cant remember wat company is tat for now... but for me it's ok as long as it can reach KL in the shortest possible time instead of the aroeline which takes me 5 hrs...lol
