The greatest difference between SG and MY are cars and trains. Seriously if you like driving, you'll hate SG. On the other hand if you hate driving it's not too bad. Plus you save on petrol and car payments, etc. The downside of course is that your mobility is kinda restricted to MRT / cab / foot.
SG's also pretty safe to walk around at night (in the city, Orchard and quayside area. I wouldn't know about Geylang ;p).
(the salsa scene is not bad either!)
