I think it means you won't get PR automatically even if you'd been working in Singapore for years. You have to apply for it. Some people prefer NOT to apply for PR as you have to pay CPF (like our EPF here in Malaysia).
*
Actually i was asking on the "it is known to be difficult to withdraw even after old age". Why isit??

Another things is what is the benefit of being PR and/or citizen? I mean there must be reason ppl getting PR and citizen i guess..

Don't tell me what is the between PR and Citizen. i know that.

if you have the right experience they need, they will pay higher, even higher than singaporean. Don't always think that Malaysian are being exploit here. Just that you have to know, Singapore's salary is lower compare to Malaysia.
*
Isit?? Singapore salary is lower than Malaysia??
u mean if i earn RM5000, similarly if im a singaporean with same experience (and luck) i will get say SGD4,500?? hmm...this is something new..

anyway 3 interviews out of 10 applications is considered very very good... thats 30% reply rate.

How about the security there? I bet it is so much safer than Malaysia! Like in malaysia, girls get wistled at.... then you have perverts lah... and people lepaking at central markets, sogo and etc (mostly not Msian)... I heard the Singaporeans dont act like Msians do... they dont look at girls one kind (in a pervert way)... Haha!
*
hahaha.... maybe singaporean are the spying type. meaning they "perverts" ur body parts without u noticing. WHile malaysians are bad in hiding their act. afterall their country are much developed rite? so mayb they are smarter in perverting.

Security is much much safer than in Malaysia. If you walk alone on the street at 12am, you need not worry about it.
*
That being said, i guess depends on which location.
i heard like Jurong, industrial area, also a lot of "cases"
I guess, generally safer than Malaysia lar, but definitely noy 100% or even 95% safe.

Aiyo, how come some of you guys simply don't want to do simple info search for themselves? The internet is wasted on you folks leh.

Go Singapore Customs
*
Dear Seantantang, not all ppl got time to waste on the internet, which may take less than few minutes to get the answer if lucky, but may take few hours to get the answers if unlucky.

So one alternative is to ask those ppl who may directly knows the answer.

And further, i beliv the question was directed to ppl who knows the answer and intend to share it. So for those who dun dun knows or knows but dun ntend to share, it was not for u. Please dun discourage ppl to share info and ask questions in this forum. More nfo feeding to this forum is healthy

i got an offer for contract sg IT job which through the agent. The agent will be negotiating the salary & benefits behalf of me.

i would like to know whether the higher salary package i got better for the agent or lower the better?

Do my salary will be lowering down due to through agent?
*
For the Agent the higher your salary u get, the higher his commission. Generally thats the arrangement, but depends, mayb they got arrangement based on no. of individuals instead of salary amount. If thats the case, the lower ur salary the easier for him to strike the deal.

But normally commission based on salary is the common one.

ANyway, thats the commission part. If the agent is for real, they will be more concern on the candidates suitability. If u turn out to be a bad candidate/employee after getting u in, the agent's image will be bad..

good to know that.. any1 knows any websites to hunt for a job as banker (corporate loan)?
*
Hey the fellow banker.
Comparing to Malaysia, Singapore may not be that racist, but Singapore is not that fair and equal as well..

As far as for Malaysia candidates are concern, Chinese is still preferred, Indian, then only Malay (comparing only these 3 races, knowing that there are indeed more races in malaysia). Easy, just look at how many Chinese, Indian and Malay get to SIngapore..get real...

All countries employers are human, there can never be more than 50% non-racist, non-sexist, etc etc..

I'm staying near Marine Parade, at the East side of SG but I'm working at Jurong East =.=" Wake up at 5am, come out at 6am, reach office at 9am, reach home at 9pm dry.gif

I'm working as an ERP consultant, people here are not really friendly as most of them just focus on their own job. I miss the interaction and communication between colleagues in my old company sad.gif

I'm staying in a 1+1 HDB with my girlfriend, $1100 per month excluding all the bills.
*
u stay in the east and work in jurong east (presume its sumwer east, or not west at least), and u take 3 hours to get to work??u sure?? u dun nid that hours to go around singapore rite?? summore erly 6am, shdn'tb much crowd!!

SGD1.1K for HDB1+1. is that the current market price??
I was told one of ur room shd b lock by the owner rite??

1+1 units means 1 room 1 living room, the house comes with only one room itself, don't have other rooms to lock haha. Other places like Bedok... the rate fluctuates a lot... a 1+1 unit (with 1 room locked as there are NO legal 1+1 units at Bedok) can range between $900 to $1400 =.="
*
Oh, is ur house there near to the 1st link to Johor? I heard that area the safety is abit an issue due to industrial area, means a lot of foreign labour (and i dun mean malaysian)

Is the 1+1 unit only available in ur area there? Meaning other areas will be at least 2+1, with one room lock rite?
I think SGD1.1K is very cheap. Will target ur area to stay, when i get a job in SIngapore, hopefully soon.

Can? What's the success rate if I apply for a PR on the 5th day of my work? Zero or close to zero? tongue.gif
*
I think if u already got a job there, there's no benefit in getting PR, unless u thinking of jumping jobs so soon.

PR means cpf of 21%!!!, 1/4 of your salary gone!!!

Its almost end of the month already; perhaps I could give you guys a breakdown on my expenditure on the 1st month working in SG.

Staying in a 1+1 unit at Marine Terrace with my girlfriend.

- Rental deposit (1 month deposit): $550
- Rental: $550
- Housing agent fees (50% of rent): $275
- Broadband application: $55
- Singtel postpaid: $50
- Wi-fi router: $70
- Household and cooking utensils etc: $200
- Ez-link card for public transport: $100
- Food: $500
- Employment Pass application (inclusive of body checkup): $100

Haven't got my utility bill yet but most probably it will be $60. So there goes... a grand total of $2450 for the 1st month. Next month onwards won't be so hefty... rough estimate gonna be around $1400 only. smile.gif
*
Way to go!!! Good info, as yours represent living expenses based on most updated inflation scene.
Btw, how u get a 1+1 at $550?? Last i heard is $1.1K for East side.
Urs is one living roon + one room rite?? Where is Marine Terrace?

Hmmm... interesting question..
However...personally I would not recommend a Malay to work here. The reasons being:

1) It is very very hard to find a halal restaurant here... There are very few mamaks here for the Malays... Almost 95% is chinese restaurant. Even u go to food courts in supermarkets, there are still selling babi foods there...
2) Employers here basically won't allow Muslims to go for Fridays prayers unless you can skip lunch and the masjid is just next to ur office... but i think is very very hard to find that kind of place to work in SG.
3) If not wrong, schools here won't allow muslim girls to wear tudung oso... I once heard a news saying that a school in SG ban a gal from wearing tudung.
4) Singaporeans like to keep dogs as pets and let them walk freely in the park or around their HDB, but if you are a Muslim, i afraid u may not be so comfortable in walking in the parks or around ur HDB because there are many dogs around..
5) There are very very few masjid (I only seen 2 masjid so far after i work here for 6 mths) in SG. So, it will be quite troublesome if u are staying quite far from the masjid and wanna perform ur morning prayers at 4.30am..

Nevertheless, if u are a Muslim and still can cope with the facts mentioned above... I would recommend ur Malay friend to work here.. Good luck to ur friend. biggrin.gif
*
Quite a good point indeed. Yes, got halal food, but definitely not as many as M'sia. Altho u still can see quite a number of malays n SIngapore.

Anyway, Malay not necessary Muslim. ONly the person him/herself knows whether they are Muslim or not..

msia rates r higher then sg can check out mustaffa's website for the rates so far they offer best rates
*
Any reason for the higher rates in M'sia?? I beliv this apply not only to SGD, but also other currencies, such as NZD, AUD, HKD, etc..
Isit bcos, other countries offer some extra services, M'sian exchanger don't?

Added on August 4, 2008, 12:19 pmNot sure if anyone asked this before.

Anyone use laundry services before in Singpore?

1. How do they charge in Singapore? in kilogram or by per piece?

2. What is the rate?

3. Isit very convient?

4. How far isit from your accomodation (roughly how many minutes or km?) Walking distance?

5. Where do you stay?

I previously found one without aircon for 450.

Actually i dun mind staying wif owner coz some of them have maid. So it's no more my job to clean the toilet  tongue.gif
and they help bring in your laundry when it's raining while you're not around.

Yeah, sounds good eh?

Why stayin is cheaper?? If staying with owner is as good (or better) than staying with other, why is it cheaper?

Any cons (and pros) of staying with owner??
