Check ur Processor model with CPU-Z... google around ....

usually it woulnt be that hot for newer series of processor ... but for prescott over 3.2 ghz .. it is otherwise condition ....

maybe u need to clean the heatsink and apply a new layer of cooling ceramic...

What HSF are you using now? Did you change the HSF yourself?
Did you re-apply thermal paste AFTER cleaning away the old layer?
Anyway you should run with open casing and take a look if any of your casing fan / HSF fan not connected /dieded...

Well the thermal paste you need is just a paper thin layer. Don't need to use all of it.......but buy some Artic Silver 5, it should help temps as well as a re-seat of the heatsink is good. smile.gif

=.= sigh...google for this program called CPU-Z and it might provide us with a clearer picture of your problem.

Btw..im having a Prescott 3.2 ghz and my idle temps are at 40'c and full load only reaches 46'c at stock speed... Did messed around with my FSB with ClockGen but couldnt reach a stable OC due to my PSU... I clocked to 3.55ghz and the temps were just a sly high at 44'c at idle and 54'c at load...

You really should look into ur air circulation in your casing and go for Artic Silver 5 dude....

I believe so too...there's no way on idle a properly installed processor can reach that sorta temp...less u put it near your living rooms window and having direct sunlight tongue.gif

Reapply your thermal paste...but before doing so, please do a proper cleaning first~ use those lint free cloths and dont RINSE your cloth...keep it dry...wipe all those paste and reapply them. Should do the trick.

It's hard to know which temperature is for which hardware if u're using Speedfan to monitor it...

I suggest, go download a copy of PC Wizard 2006 from:
http://www.cpuid.com

Then install it, run it, then click on the icon that looks like a speedometer... thumbup.gif

It's easier leh... wink.gif

Paiseh..
Who told you to use that heatsink? shakehead.gif

That's a sucky sucky heatsink liao... sweat.gif

That heatsink is a low end heatsink...

It's performance is much lower than the Prescott original heatsink that came with the intel when you buy it...

Change the heatsink to a more performer such as Hyper 48, Hyper 6+, XP90C or XP120... wink.gif

....................... sweat.gif

No it's not okay...
That HSF is a low end heatsink...

You're processor uses a prescott cores...
I even use that heatsink once...

And i use it for my 3.0E [The same core with you're processor]

Stock intel heatsink: 58celcius
CM XdreamIII: 62celcius
CM Hyper 6+: 40Celcius [My 3.0E is overclocked to 4GHz (means running at 4Ghz speed)]

Just look at it's design, and compare it with the other heatsink that is on the market and you'll know the cooling power of it... smile.gif

I've used a lot of heatsink, so i know how does that Xdream III performs...
Don't believe me?

Check my successful tradelist, i've been using a lot of heatsink...
And the best heatsink so far for me is Thermalright Ultra 120 and Thermalright XP120... thumbup.gif

Thermalright XP120 is already stopped from being manufactured...
It's old already... laugh.gif

About Thermalright Ultra 120, i don't know either this heatsink can be used on socket 478 or not... blush.gif

As u're using Socket 478, my suggestion is go for Gigabyte G-Power Pro...
I've used that heatsink for my Pentium 4 3.0E before, and what i get is a performance that is much better if compared to CM Hyper 6+, when i'm using G-Power Pro, i got 38celcius when i'm oc'ed my 3.0E to 4GHz..

I don't know why you're friend get 60celcius while using that heatsink. Perhaps maybe u're fiiend didn't fit it well or didn't use thermal paste or use thermal paste, but maybe too thin or too thick or maybe he uses that heatsink on the lowest speed... rclxub.gif

G-Power Pro are known for it's better performance if compared to CM hyper 6+ or CM Hyper 6... thumbup.gif

And to add up, it's much much lighter than CM hyper 6+ or CM Hyper 6... cool.gif

G Power lite is the one that uses white fan right?

G-Power Pro is better i think...

The cost: G-Power Pro: RM165 from moderno icon_idea.gif

Advise: Don't buy at Lowyat Plaza... laugh.gif

Not true... I bought my G-Power BL at only RM130 which is cheaper than ALL the forumers here selling gigabyte heatsinks smile.gif

Btw, I think there really is no point going for G-Power Pro unless you need the fan speed controller. Don't worry about the sounds coming from G-Power BL, its really quiet... well to me la. haha... and if its a lil loud for u, then u can use the fan speed controller cable which reduced it to 1700rpm from 2000rpm.

Not really sure about Neon 8 but idling at 50°C for your AMD is definitely hot. Back when I used stock cooling is idle at 44°C Maybe its ur casing air flow. Your fans are not placed properly or smtg? You know what.. I think right, if you're just a normal game user not gonna overclock or anything, no point going for so high aftermarker cooling. The reason why I got my G-Power was becoz I wanna try OC my AMD.. blush.gif

just make sure u make a monthly maintenance.clean the dust.a new cabel management should be nice and a nice high CFM fan.get those vantec casing fan high cfm and low noise.for HSF it depends how much ur willing to fork out.Im in luck coz getting a gpower pro for 80bux only brows.gif .i need to replace my rear fan seem it can suck out air due to the gpower performance to great.sighhh money moneyflies.gif moneyflies.gif moneyflies.gif again!!! cry.gif

The almighty Vacuum cleaner always does the trick...however..u do need to take the HSF once in a while...using Gigabyte 3d Rocket Pro~ =) works great when u hv another fan blowing at the top to cool those copper / aluminium... 46'c Max even on full load..thats 1 thing im proud of my PC..^.^v courtessy of Moderno of coz..

Cooling for PC's nowadays are becoming an essential~ ^.^v so learn up your airflow before tackling the temperatures..1 exhaust fan always helps to keep the temperature in the casing..2 would be best...

If your proc is set to run using 1:! divider rather than by SPD then you will be able to see the proc running at full speed 200MHz.

ASUS P4P800 E Deluxe is still considered high end motherboard for socket 478, but if compared to P4C800 E Deluxe, then the P4P800 E Deluxe is a defeat... laugh.gif

*ot* I heartache cos I cannot use 1900xt cos gotta buy new PSU

Anyway somehow become PSU thread oredi... but still relevant to temps. cos its important to select a psu with good 120mm to take out heat from near the cpu.

Pong got a decent casing there, but your temps is definitely high. Even my p4 2.8 on a SFF with tiny fan generate 50C idle, best is you re-seat your HSF to be sure. (dont forget thermal paste)

wahaha~ might not be the case....give u an example..google up PSU calculator and see how much total wattage u will need for a rig like this : -

Pentium 4 HT 3.2ghz (very mainstream, alot of ppl hv)
2gb DDR2 RAM
Ati x1900 (XT / XTX)
2 HDD
1 Floppy
2 Rom Drives
3 Fans (1-intake,1-exhaust,1 zalman)

u require around 380+ to 400+ total power...

You buy Coolermaster 450 Extreme Power....the amperage on the coolermaster is around 16-18 amps..(dun remember >.<) might not be enuff to power leh...u might experience auto restarts, GPU restarts of sometimes fail to boot.
