Resolution doesnt translate directly into quality..u need to take into account the sensor size and capabilit .the zooming part if ur into this high end camera level depends on the type of lens u r going to mount on the camera..example: wide angle lens is for taking wide picture, telephoto is when u want to zoom in and get a close up image..that plays huge part in its pricing also..so u need a beginner camera with a good zoom lens..is that it?

First and foremost, you need a camera body drool.gif and then lens. You do mention about able to capture low light that means you need a "Fast Lens" icon_idea.gif referring to the maximum aperture of the particular lens.

Personally i am a canon user so i will recommend ah

1st choice biggrin.gif

Body with kit lens : 70D with 18-55mm STM ( cost about 3.4k referring to KLDSLR )
Lens : 50mm F/1.8 ( Wait for the STM version , heard coming soon rclxms.gif )

If got extra moneh~~~ get a 3rd Party speedlite, Yongnuo 560 IV biggrin.gif

2nd choice

Body wit kit lens : 700D with 18-135mm STM ( roughly 2.7k )
Lens and equipment : 50mm F/1.8 STM , Speedlite, Tripod etc

Hope this help out icon_rolleyes.gif

Lets see..... hmm hmm.gif

Capturing in low light......... and no particular brand mentioned......

How about a Pentax K-5IIs paired with a Tamron 17-50 f2.8? If you are lucky to find one.

Cheers..... icon_rolleyes.gif

depends your requirement. if you don't mind the weight of dslr, as @xxQue_Sera_Seraxx mentioned, can consider nikon D7100 with kit lens 18-140mm zoom lens

by the way, D7100 may a bit out of your budget, if your budget set to 4k...

my personal recommendation is sony A6000. it not only lighweight, wide autofocus area coverage, it can capture dslr quality picture thumbup.gif

single lens package

I think nowadays 2nd hand body is under 3k..trust me..the d7100 is a higher end body for an aps-c sensor in nikon lineup..better buy a second hand body of a high end camera rather than a new full price lower end body..i have regret on that..cuz i outgrew d camera when my skills become better over time..find d cheapest with good cond u can find.. .id go for a 50mm f1.8 to start..u cannot zoom in or out but it will teach u how to frame ur picture from the start .if can restart learning i will start it this way..however u need to learn the basic first, what does aperture means, and how it relate to how fast a lens is and how it then helps in low light situation..dslr is not a point and shoot camera..to get good image, u have to know how to properly use d camera..u need to tell me what u want to shoot with the camera then i can recommend what lens u need to go for..
