Hello.. hoping for Recommendation and Opinion and Better Drive Experience(for owner) In Car service.. drive feeling and interior/exterior Quality.. car for Nissan Sylphy 1.8VL (top spec)3year warranty or 100,000Km or Honda Civic 2.0 Navi(top spec) and Honda HIP Insurance is it all that ? 5 year warranty no mileage limit ?? for Honda

Reason for this Question.. End this month or June thinking to buy NEW car Budget RM100K - 125K (yes i know Civic 134K sad.gif but read about 5Year Warranty and HIP insurance.. plan wow! )

Declaration** I am Total Noob in Car.. so before come a post regarding "OH u noob tu dunno eh!? You dunno what that mean eh? " so on..

ADD-ON: Renault Fluence = price and the car interior/exterior with rear camera is wow! RM110K+ problem is Service center is seem to be lacking in kampung /small town..

Thank you ALL FOR opinion much appreciate.. Sorry if my word offended.. but deepest my heart thanx smile.gif all

Lazy fella....search review in paultan. Great website for automobile. Just don't read too much comment from the user there though smile.gif

But seriously, Honda Civic is not really recommended as the model is going to be replaced soon as its about 5 yrs old now I think.

Their site is hopeless... (Mazda). I recommend it because it because it is a better deal compared to Honda Civic or Nissan Sylphy, and it is in the same price range.

Toyota Corrolla = Toyota Altis
Subaru Impreza = Can be Subaru XV i think

https://youtu.be/pt5UTFuQUys

In the RM100-125k price range, you have many choices. In the end it will depend on what you are looking for a what is more important to you - the exterior looks, interior looks, interior quality, driving experience, NVH, resale value, aftermarket service and support etc.

Apart from the Nissan Sylphy and Honda Civic, you may want to explore Toyota Altis, Mazda 3, Peugeot 408T, Renault Fluence and Ford Focus.

FWIW I have owned the previous generation Sylphy 2.0. Not too sure how the current model compares with the previous generation model but if you want a quiet and comfortable car with smooth acceleration, the Sylphy is a good choice but performance and driving dynamics are lacking. Tan Chong's after-sales service is good if not great.

If you want resale value, Honda Civic and Toyota Altis would be good choices but to me they are overpriced for what they have to offer against other alternatives. Though there is no doubt about their resale. The current Civic is not as popular or well-received when compared to the previous generation Civic though (the previous generation Civic is thought to be the best model Honda had managed to come up with in terms design).

After-sales service and support of Japanese cars (Honda, Toyota and Nissan) are usually reliable when compared to the cheaper continentals. Mazda's support is a bit lacking but is improving.

If you want elevated driving experience compared to the Japanese cars you may want to look at the Ford Focus. But after-sales service is not as good as the Japanese, and resale value is also not as good.

its vulgar to judge a car from just paper stats

important thing is how a car makes u feel when u driving it

if u look for calm relaxing drive, pick sylphy

nissan place great priority in NVH in these recent years of car making, its a quality not mentioned in brochures, but its one attributes that matter most as driver

Actually, for fetching elderly parents = a taller car like the Subaru XV or even Honda HR-V or the upcoming Mazda CX-3 makes sense. Elderly folks find it much easier to get on and off the car!

xv is not bad..but very small boot compared to hrv. so overall for normal usage, hrv win.

i pick XV over HRV for few simple reasons:

1) driveability and handling. test driven both, HRV during roadshow and XV belongs to a friend. in terms of driving "excitement", HRV is far behind XV.
2) get away from brand name, as i can see 70% of Honda owners (regardless of which model) tend to purchase the car because of brand.

HRV might be having a bigger bootspace than its rival, but lets be realistic, how frequent do we cramp everything into our car? once in a blue moon? consumer tends to get something more than what they really need, same theory applies for car as well.

anyway, i am not saying that HRV is bad, it is not at all. only that those seeking an entry level SUV should really check out XV, who knows it might surprise u.

yes very frequent unless u use it as 2nd car. but for its price, some people bought it as primary car to ferry family members. i have to agree with u that in terms of driveability, xv win. due to impreza chassis and awd capability (proven in rally scene). but how many people can notice or appreciate those characteristic?
it's not about brand name..but being realistic, same price but more on space and safety spec. something more is very subjective since both car is 5 seater and hrv is not that huge..i'm not talking about 7 seater vs subaru xv. shakehead.gif

It's unfair to compare HR-V n XV as HR-V is a B-seg while XV is C-seg. However, Honda's ingenious design has made the HR-V more roomy than the XV.

I have not driven the HR-V but looking at a package, it is decent as a family car. I sat on the XV and felt less impressed with the XV's poor drivetrain, NVH and space.

Fluence - old slyphy engine and chassis

Slyphy currently selling - new engine and chassis.

New slyphy - go for full spec. Basic spec make the car look like apek. Full spec slyphy will make civic look like toy car. In safety, interior and exterior.

And don't blinded by brand as most Malaysian. Civic is an overprice C segment car for its full spec where you can FIND a lot of options instead a company to treat their customer life like rubbish.

If you go for Civic don't get the Navi. The Navi unit is not worth the extra RM7K over the 2.0S. It is probably worth only RM2K.

You should give Mazda 3 a chance. The high spec is cheaper than Civic 2.0S but beat it soundly on specs and equipment. The Mazda website is hard to navigate. Do your research at paultan's website

Do consider the Mazda 3 2.0 high spec CKD. I think its a really good deal at that price with the offered specs for such a good looking car. Thats coming from me, a diehard Honda fan.

I book(Brilliant Silver) Nissan Sylphy 1.8VL with IMPUL Complete Kit (17 inch Alloy(design) Sport Spring/ Aerokit body by IMPUL) +Door Visor/Pedal sport/back compartment(Nissan)/ LED Kicker(Nissan) + Standard Tinting 70%(silver) NOTE: all this Pay none Free or complementary... Salesman say get all in than he give me Lum sum Discount/rebate...xx

Total cost RM RM131,818.65 - (Loan 90% RM118,000) = Deposit RM13,818.65 - Booking FEE RM1,000 - RM2,000(NCD 55%) - RM7,318.65 Rebate (Sylphy 2014 November edition) So Total RM4,853.35 and he finally minus RM 3.35 so final pay deposit is RM4.85K biggrin.gif

Finance by AM Bank 90% LOAN 5 year monthly payment RM2,212 FIX rate Interest rate is 2.49% !! (islamic finance reason in-case late payment or delay just 1% penalty charge/Normal conventional commercial charge 5-8% higher)

NOTE : regarding Loan lowest i found/ been offer is by BSN interest 2.29% !! but i have to drive all way to another town... xxx so lazy and difference is just 0.19% Meanwhile BANK Muamalat/MAYBANK worse... 2.87%/2.79% for 5 year 90% loan xx

for old folks with bone problems, TS should be looking at cars with soft ride and not SUV like XV which has stiff and bouncy suspension

In that case I advise you to set your sights lower. When you skimp on certain details, it'll eventually result in buyer's remorse. You don't want to be wondering "What if..." after spending 130k.

Although I had owned the Sylphy 2.0 previous generation, I still had a soft spot for the car. The strengths of the Sylphy are in the quietness and spaciousness/comfort at the back seat due to good legroom. It is a nice car for the family.

thumbup.gif For me i dont like the performance kit on almera which include sport suspension and exhaust, as the ride is quite harsh at my area. BTW, sylphy is bloody hot and sexy, especially red colour one, compared to last sylphy. only slight drawback is that, no paddle shift to play with.. Nice choice bro! sylphy comes with rear air vent right? cannot remember already, test drive last year

Although I had owned the Sylphy 2.0 previous generation, I still had a soft spot for the car. The strengths of the Sylphy are in the quietness and spaciousness/comfort at the back seat due to good legroom. It is a nice car for the family.

This is very true for d 2.0 sylphy, JDM spec ma...but the current 1.8 look more like a bigger Almera. Never drive b4 but does not look as promising... at least to me la. smile.gif

you don't want to void warranty.. so do it in shop that know how to.. and i call TCS to confirm.. Engine/gear box other component(break disc, wheel so on) do not get void.. but try avoid Cut wired and if you need to doclaim like battery take off your DLR/fog light. price RM150 to 800 brands phillip is the best but cost more

Driving is OKAY, cornering is good 5Meter , FC full tank Ron95 RM65-70 Ron97 RM80-90

only annoying is if you add IMPUL sports spring that lower car you may exp increase NVH(can hear water flow when road is wet or rain) but can be reduce by adding door,Front/rear fender a soundproofing substance.. but it's lower enough to past the Road speed bump or road hill without touching your car..

Your car looks sporty and yet elegant at the same time, which is a rare feat. Sporty cars usually look like boy racer, but yours look sporty and nice and yet subtly elegant. Just a right balance. Maybe the shape of the car does help a bit. The overall shape of the Nissan looks good. The Impul kit really transformed the car, especially the sporty rims. Are those rims 17" or 18"? Good job~!

ps. Almera with Impul kit on the other hand looks completely the opposite - bad.

Funny that this new Sylphy 1.8 shows the grinding sound when the car is idle or is traveling up an inclined slope. Not to mention the kluk sound every morning when driving above 60km/h. Are these noises present in ALL cars, or it is only few cars are affected?

FWIW the older generation Sylphy 2.0 does not have any sort of funny noises either from engine, transmission or even inside the car. Just a very quiet car.

I presume you are referring to Mazda 3 when you felt that the tyre noise is not good. A change in more silent tyres on the Mazda 3 don't help much? Personally I am not an advocate of soundproofing the car although it will help in making the car quieter.

Yes, can check with them again. Or you can check with other Sylphy owners and see if they have the same sound in their cars. If other Sylphy owners do not experience the noises, then you will know that your car only shows this sound, and it can be rectified at the SC ie. some part is faulty that is causing the sound.

Test drive both and see. NVH and comfort are subjective experiences depending on driver's expectation, sensitivity and what car he is comparing with. It will be a pity if you dismiss Mazda 3 based on someone else's perception of NVH. I personally dion't feel that its NVH and comfort are bad and my previous car was a Kia Optima which is known for comfort.

OK good to hear that you do not experience any "kluk" or grinding noises in your car. That would suggest that the noises that the other owner experienced in his car are something that is not normal.

Yes, the previous generation Sylphy 2.0 looks outdated. The current Sylphy model looks better.

Really tempted to get this car due to the huge discount and the comfortness of the car. Suitable for small family with sedan. The only thing thats holding me back is the cvt. Still sceptical about the durability and also not much feedbacks from owners beside this tread.. smile.gif

hm last i hear big discount, 3 year free maintenance service and bodykit also 6.5 inch for RM1..

only issues is car manufacture May 2014 NOT CVT... they actually one of the best.. and reliability.. but remember treat with care..

ad-on: if you do chose sylphy.. get the 1.8VL not 1.8E i was told they giv more care to 1.8VL than 1.8E tongue.gif xx+ all extra thing.. like LED ascent light, Headlight(projector xenon) washer, Auto light/ rear mirror.

The sylphy factory soundproof is not bad, only noticeable tyre noise when cruising at >100kmph during test drive. Please share if you manage to further reduce the tyre rolling noise.

smile.gif will do... but Rear Tyre arch, i can only do little to improve, as i check.. got no arch hold or something(i dunno what it call) plastic where usually space can add Foam/soundproof material to reduce water noise flow.. BUT IT will not stop me.. i tear open Rear boot.. and look got space to improve with 2-4 layer silver soundproofing on TOP rear arch...

4 door/Fender is solid now... i think it can stop Bullet. LOL

I've done with my my Nissan Sylphy, though the previous 2.0-litre model. Exactly the same thing to all 4 doors. It cost me RM300 at that time. Claimed USA product and all. No difference in sound as the Sylphy is inherently already a very quiet car. There might be minimal difference, but to my ears close to zero. The only difference is the doors feel heavier to open and close, and when the doors close there is a more solid thud sound rather than a hollow sound without the soundproofing material.

Not sure how quiet is the current 1.8 model, whether it is as quiet as the previous generation 2.0. If it has the same quietness, in my opinion there is no need to spend money on soundproofing the Nissan Sylphy.

WHat are the factory tyres on the Nissan Sylphy 1.8? The previous generation Sylphy 2.0 came with Yokohama Aspec dB tyres. Quiet tyres.

i can't compare G11 sylphy.. never buy or drive it. but compare 2 car proton pesona (my previous car) and Aston martin dB (my uncle let me use it.. wash it take it for long drive) pesona i can hear most ride.. so sylphy is quieter.. meanwhile martin.. feel seat in vacuum car... hear minor vibrate on 240kmH+ ride.. x so sylphy B17 lost to martin.

x
like i said cannot compare sylphy previous Gen but factory default soundproof on b17 is there and surficient to most ppl just me.. i want to see /exp if i can improve it more.

yes door feel heavy/solid when knock it, also improve sound as B17 speaker on the door not the rear end.

my soundproof stuff is cheap china made. just their labour why is rm550+

I can't tell you how to spend your money but I can give you my opinion that you are wasting it. Your car is a family oriented car with limited power and not built for fast cornering or good handling so what what difference do all these "racing" struts and bars make? Painting racing stripes on a pig is not going to turn it into a race horse. A K&N filter is just a replacement washable filter for the OEM paper filter; sorry there is zero improvement in performance. How much you spend on your Slyphy isn't going to turn it into a Jetta.

Is it an offence for a family man to re-life his passion about hot rod, racing and the adrenaline rush, just because he missed the opportunity to do so when he is 18?

Is it an offence for a man to pamper his love no matter how not relevant all those stuff he added to his car's true usage, just because he has other priorities right now?

Is it an offence for a person to disregard popular opinion, to look thru the peer pressure because being unconventional, just because he had the ability to do what he love without bringing any harm to passer by?

I can't tell you how to spend your money but I can give you my opinion that you are wasting it. Your car is a family oriented car with limited power and not built for fast cornering or good handling so what what difference do all these "racing" struts and bars make? Painting racing stripes on a pig is not going to turn it into a race horse. A K&N filter is just a replacement washable filter for the OEM paper filter; sorry there is zero improvement in performance. How much you spend on your Slyphy isn't going to turn it into a Jetta.
